FFA Fantasy Hockey 2018-2019 (1 Viewer)

So how/when did we go from a 5 minute timer to 1;15?
Yahoo has never had a 5-minute clock.

I think you participated in the playoff pool last year. That's different. We draft that on the message board (and I usually ask people to pick within 2 minutes)

This draft is run through yahoo so we use their draft software to manage things.

16 teams * 22 rounds = 352 picks.

5 minute timer means the draft could take as long as 29 hours. not sure anyone has 24+ hours to devote to a live draft.

Yeah, since I was drafting at work, I think my new overlords would have frowned on that much overtime.

Do you really think we let Brasky and Rude take 5 minutes for every pick in a 22 rounds draft?  That's 3 hours and 40 minutes just for those 2.
oh come on, don't put me in that group.  I make my picks right away unless that bag takes Granlund right in front of me

and there is a clear separation between me and my Rud alias.

Looking forward to @ceo3west's (or anyone else's for that matter) draft analysis

I got shutout of Matthews and Tavares in all my other pools, I was taking one if he was there, even though I almost never take a centre in round 1.

In hindsight, I probably should have taken my second forward before round 8.  I think I did a pretty good job filling in the forward positions and I'm pretty balanced in all categories - but to win, I need a bunch of those middle round guys to follow through on their breakouts last season (RNH, Bjugstad, Haula, Debrincat, Guentzel, Heinen),  or rebound from down years (Saad, Galchenyuk) obviously I expect a few of them will and all have nice spots in their lineups at least to start the season.

Defense should be elite, assuming I don't have to trade one for a forward. Murray and Luongo are #1s on (IMO) playoff teams. Crawford was great when he played last year and should be back in a couple weeks.

This draft got away from me fast.  Prep is rough, cause yahoo database rankings blow and finding rankings with hits and blocks was near impossible for me.  I hate just randomly grabbing guys for 1 category.  I just figured wingers were in higher demand earlier, thinking I could grab Centres later.  Lundqvist and Smith is not my dream tandem, but in a 15 team league I got caught after all the better guys were gone.  I think they get their games and stats and are at least #1s on their teams.  Mrazek is gonna get a month in net with Darling down and Darling is no sure bet anyway.  I think the Canes are sneaky playoff team and I can envision Mrazek unseating Darling.  Bernier got a 3yr/9mm contract, so he's gonna get some games there.  Think Schwartz in round 7 is a steal.  Del Zotto as a 4th D brings needed hits and blocks and wont kill me.  Think I got some late RW value in Reinhart, Smith and Bjorkstrand.  Picked up some hit, block, shot guys with last 4 picks.  I shied away from rookies.  I don't have a big 90 point scorer.  Hoping I got some PP guys that will stuff all cats to keep me competitive.

I think I've got a decent team.  Strong D.  G are weak but to be expected when you take your 2nd in the 8th round.

Grabbed a few lottery tickets at the end along with a bit of the old ultraviolence with my last pick :boxing:

Getz Ducks

1.(2)Nikita Kucherov (TB - RW)
So we picked second last year also. Took Crosby. He killed us as he dropped from 80 goals the prior two years to 29 last year. He also started out -15 at one point. We rallied, but he killed is in Goals, +/-.  Yahoo really limits giving RW to players. So this year, Kuch was the pick.

2.(31)Vladimir Tarasenko (StL - RW)
We wanted the best potential goal scorer here. 33 last year. Hope he returns to the 37-40-39 of the prior three years. We're now very happy with two top RW's. Nice advantage so far. Plenty of C and LW.

3.(34)Martin Jones (SJ - G)
We knew we had to take a G here. Was hoping Gibson/Jones/Fleury would be here. Happy with any one of them. Jones might be the best this year with EK added to SJ. We seriously considered doing what Cav did and take G's 2 and 3 here. Tarasenko being available changed that. We liked Tarasenko and 6th rd G better than 2 G's.

4.(63)Rickard Rakell (Anh - LW,RW)
One of the most underrated players in NHL IMO.  33 and 34 goals last two years. 69 points in 77 games. He's playing with Getz 100% this year. He could put up 80 points. His numbers last year similar to Tarasenko, but a tad better.

5.(66)Ryan Getzlaf (Anh - C)
Plan here was to take the best C available. N.Backstrom went four picks before this one. He was at the top of our list. Happy to have Getz paired with Rakell.

6.(95)Carter Hutton (Buf - G)
If he can perform anywhere close to last year, we will be happy with our G selections and should do well in all the cats.

7.(98)Rasmus Ristolainen (Buf - D)
I don't know why I like this guy, but I do. Hope his +/- gets better this year. Nice hits and blocks, which we needed here.

8.(127)Yanni Gourde (TB - C,RW)
Love this guy. we were surprised he fell down to us in this round. We needed a C or RW here.

9.(130)Evgenii Dadonov (Fla - LW,RW)
We drafted this guy last year and he did well and then killed it after we traded him to Cav.   18-18-36 +14 in his last 35 games.  We need #2 LW here and very happy with the pick.

10.(159)Colton Parayko (StL - D)
Three solid years. Like guys like this as they sometimes breakout higher year four.  Increased his hits and blocks last year.

11.(162)Timo Meier (SJ - LW)
In prior years, I've got lucky hitting breakout years with guys like Nino (two years ago) and Zucker last year right here. Wanted Konecny #1 here.  Had to be a LW here.  He's on #1 line to start with Joe and Joe.  50-55 points here is a possibility.

12.(191)Adam Henrique (Anh - C)
We got sniped on Toffoli here, so we moved Gourde to RW and took Adam.  Watched this guy after the trade last year. One of my favorite players now. He's #2 C now. Had 20 goals in 57 games as a Duck. 74 goals last three years. Not many players like that left at this point in the draft.

13.(194)Elias Pettersson (Van - C)
Sniped Cav and Brasky here. The upside here after we had all three of our lines covered was too great to not pass up.

14.(223)Malcolm Subban (VGK - G)

15.(226)Ryan Miller (Anh - G)
With 16 teams this year, we wanted to draft better goalies than we have in the past. I usually draft three. We had to go four this year. These two guys did a solid job last year when asked to fill in full time. Together, they make a great 3rd goalie.

16.(255)Josh Manson (Anh - D)
200 hits, 100 blocks. Almost the exact same numbers as Ristolainen, except he was +34, not -25.  He might regress a bit, but I don't think so.

17.(258)Joe Thornton (SJ - C)
I hate the Sharks as much as any team out there. This pick was so hard to make. We needed PP points, and he's on a line with Meier, so he won out over Paul Statsny. Probably going to regret that.

18.(287)Alex Killorn (TB - LW)
15-32-47 +22 last year.  Will be a solid pick if he comes close to this again. Daily faceoff has him on #1 PP.

19.(290)Esa Lindell (Dal - D)
Paired with Klingburg. Will be a good pick if he keeps progressing.

20.(319)Sven Baertschi (Van - LW)
On #1 line and #1 PP.  Total shot in the dark here.

21.(322)Troy Terry (Anh - RW)
On #1 line with Getz and Ricky.  Did well in the Olympics. Total flier here.

22.(351)Ryan Kesler (Anh - C)
make every pick count. Instant IR so we can pick up how Week 1 player.

This league is so tough. So many things have to go perfectly to win. If Hutton is this year's Rannta, we have a shot.

I had planned to take a goalie at the 2/3 turn but Hellebuyck was the only one left I really wanted, and he went right before I picked. So I went Johnny Hockey and Marner so I could get ahead of the counting Stars early with McJesus already on hand.

Looking forward to @ceo3west's (or anyone else's for that matter) draft analysis

Then I took D and G the next five rounds and found some good middle round forwards in Hischier and Larkin.

After that I just kept picking goalies and hits I guess.

I like Thorn’s team fwiw.

I had him all lined up to take, and then somehow panicked when the clock was ticking down into taking Tom Wilson who was ranked surprisingly high on the cheatsheet I was using due to his huge hit numbers, even though I knew he was looking at a long suspension. Just dumb.

Did you forget about him in Round 12?  :D

In other news, "Darling out a couple of weeks."  LOL

given more time to think about it, I took Gardiner in the 12th. I'm ok with that choice. 52 points last year and this is his contract year.

I just wanted to prove that I really don't hate Seguin and Hamilton!  :D

In all seriousness, I didn't really have a plan sitting at 9 ... just wanted to see what was available once it got to me, and I was pretty happy to get Seguin again and then Eichel on the way back, which should shore up my C spots.

As usual, I felt the G position was going to get away from me again, so I jumped a little bit and snagged Dubnyk in the third. Hopefully the Wild have a solid enough season that he can carry that spot. I backed him up with Stalock, and I figure Markstrom shouldn't hurt me too badly.

I actually waited a round or two longer on Hamilton then I wanted. I nearly pulled the trigger on S. Jones at one point, but once Cav snagged him, Pulock was the next best on my list.

RW easily is my weakest position, even though I took Hornqvist and Gallagher in Rounds 7-8. I'm really going to need Marchesseault and Skinner to come up big, or to mine the waiver wire, because my wings could be my real downfall.

All said, my team could be decent, but I really couldn't do much plotting with so many spots in between picks.

At first glance, I think Dino, Rud, Jules WInnfield, Thorn and Northern Voice all have solid teams.

Good luck to all!

I joined a new league this year that has a mandatory rookie spot. It added an interesting wrinkle, especially being a 16 team league. Pettersson went 2nd or 3rd round there.

Might be worth considering here one year if we want to switch it up. The only thing about it is I don't think Yahoo has a way to enforce it, so there it's a UT spot that is self-enforced/generally watched by everyone.

My picks of Henrik Borgstrom and Dylan Sikura for that spot went south early.

FWIW, I like Brasky, Team Death, Sabres/Rudnicki, GameTime, Dr D and RnR's teams a lot but that's not really factoring in goaltending too much, which I've basically quit trying to predict - so teams that took more than one goalie early may not get as fair a shake in my eyes.

If it was a dynasty league, your team would be terrific...

Edit - on further review, this team is actually pretty good.

what i got from mrazek and lundqvist is what i think my goalers are, some decent peripherals on teams that won't win many games.

@E Street Brat what’s up with this?
No doubt I was in a full meltdown during and shortly after the draft.

I had one goalie, guys on IR and guys playing in the minors. I had to make room for guys actually playing in the NHL.

If your asking about Green. The dude has a bad liver, I'll be surprised if he plays at all this year,  I guess I should have tried to trade him first, or tucked him away on IR for a while, but I was in full house cleaning mode.

Green?

You cut Werenski who was your 7th round pick and 1st defenseman drafted. He had 16 goals from the blue line last year.

Yet you kept Vince Dunn, who you took in the 21st round and is going to be a healthy scratch tonight.

I think E Street should get a mulligan there.  on account of the soft pretzel high.  but mostly because Rud has first waiver position.  unless Rud mails him 3.89 soft pretzels as compensation.
