I'd say it was his decision to push utterly insane conspiracy theories and get angry when people brought facts and logic that doomed it all, but I agree with your general premise.

I think pages of the back and forth that were seen as attacks was part of it(at least according to Dodds post that it was the same back and forth stuff)

the whining over the :lmao:  is expected frI'm those complaining about it.  They also think likes bother people

This is part of the divide I'm talking about.  What some view as totally reasonable, others view as utterly insane conspiracy theories.  If I was accused of engaging in utterly insane conspiracy theories, I'd probably feel attacked.

Pizza place a secret cover for pedophiles should not be viewed as reasonable. That's how some goes into the store and starts shooting. To peddle that nonsense is irresponsible and dangerous. And if it is true, simply mentioning on this forum is dumb. Go to the cops. 

 
All I know is that somebody mentioned that a rockaction -- Dodds podcast would be the greatest gift that Joe Bryant could give the FFA during one of the hagmania Christmas games and I'm in full support of that.

JMO of course but I think it's really silly.  One, politics pervades everything, including stuff we talk about here all the time like TV shows and movies.  Two, this board is an offshoot of a sports website/message board.  People say obnoxious, troll-y stuff to fans of rival sports teams all the time. And unlike political threads, those conversations are never productive for anyone. Why is one of those thread subjects OK and the other is not?

True. And IMO this was a disproportionate response and overreaction, which could have been dealt with as effectively by giving time outs to the repeat offenders, rather than taking the drastic step of banning all political discussion threads which punishes everyone who wants to have a serious discussion on these topics.

I agree that while well intentioned, it is ultimately unworkable as politics does pervade pretty much everything. The mods are just  going to be playing Whack-A-Mole as the political animal will keep rearing its ugly head in other threads.

Back in 2010-2011 ai did a bimonthly ffa podcast about the scene her. Interviews etc.

There are conspiracy theories and then there are insane conspiracy theories. There are conspiracy theories that ended up being true. They're no longer theories at that point. They're just called conspiracies. The problem is if you think there is some validity to conspiracy theory, some people here automatically classify and label you with those who believe in insane conspiracy theories. This was clear in the NSA thread a few years ago. The NSA conspiracy theory ended up being true, but those who thought there was some validity to it were classified and labeled as insane conspiracy theorist... led by Tim. Unfortunately it took someone like Edward Snowden to completely ruin his life for those that believed there was validity to the conspiracy theory to have facts to back it up. Until then, they were made out to look like chem trail believers, or believers that the elite are really lizard aliens.

I'm not even talking about the whole Hillary being replaced with a look alike stuff were mentioning months ago that got pretty far down the rabbit hole. Just the pizza stuff. Folks who push that own personal blame for that idiot shooting up the place. They're pushing dangerous narratives that should be called out. If you want it to be taken seriously, bring facts. We've discussed plenty of pedophile stuff here (the book Touched!). Secret codes and Twitter being in on it? You're helping endanger lives. In a small way, but you're still doing it.

But the objective truth has to be taken into account at some point.  If I started a thread about how redheads are actually the spawn of Satan and their freckles are how he tallies the souls they've helped him condemn to eternal damnation, it wouldn't be enough to just post that you disagree with me but respect our difference of opinion on the matter. At some point you should be allowed to point out that I'm full of ####, and that it's irresponsible for me to be spreading that #### around the internet because someone is going to get hurt.

Can we get a clear articulation from the mods about what topics are open for threads? If I start a thread on Nuclear policy or Trump conflicts of interest are those okay? What about threads for terrorist attacks or mass shootings? TV shows that have potential spoilers from people who read books?

Good morning. I think I have the solution. You'll notice that the Trump and social security thread has not been shut down. Also, for most of the Obama years, we did not have one all inclusive Obama thread. (We did in the last year- "Obama's the Worst"- and that thread got pretty ugly. 

The answer therefore is to have several threads about President Trump, but each one dealing with a specific issue. This should ensure that only those who want to discuss that issue will post in the thread. Sure there is still bound to be some rudeness and ugliness, but it should be kept at a minimum if we're fortunate. 

Im going to try this out now by starting a thread about Trump and Obamacare.

I don't understand why that has to be the case.  So long as the attack is on the substance of the post and not the poster it should be fine.  

And every thread has attacks on the substance of posts.  We've had some real throwdowns where people take issue with what should or should not be considered "oddly" attractive.  But nobody comes out of that thread feeling like this board just can't handle threads about objectifying female celebrities.

That's not a good solution at all.  If all the Trump talk is confined to just one thread, that leaves a lot of real estate on the front page for who's hottest threads.

Nobody cares about being accused of having idiosyncratic tastes.  People feel attacked when they're told that they are delusional or stupid.  Even when they're objectively being delusional or stupid.

I like you man despite whatever disagreements we've had.  So I ask this in a friendly manner. Do you really think today is a good day to start testing Dodds after he clearly said he would start banning people that push the envelope?

Sure, but what I'm saying is there's a huge difference between being told a post is delusional or stupid and being told that you are delusional or stupid. The former is inevitable on a message board no matter the subject and shouldn't be a big deal.  The latter, while also inevitable, is IMO over the line.  And it's an easy line to draw- and enforce- without getting into the business of censoring inoffensive topics.

So reading through this thread I think the mods must really be sick of of the political threads because of the reporting of posts within them.  Someone remind me again why adult men are reporting other adult men on a fantasy football forum?  I actually just thought it was shtick that people reported each other here, I guess it isn't.

The two big expectations Dodds made clear were to acknowledge different people can interpret the same information much differently, and to seek understanding of each other.

I thought adonis's thread asking for top threes was a good exercise in both of those.  Had some productive exchanges with Trump voters in that thread, even found some common ground.

Main Trump thread was trending in that direction, just not fast enough, I guess.
