Typical hall of fame fan wanting to lessen requirements over the years. That's how Bill Mazeroski got into the hall.I think we are probably going to have to adjust the requirements or something, especially as we drop in # of lists being sent in.

Dune was on 5 lists.I did it!
PS. Am I the only one who gave points to Dune? That movie was genius.

A start would be dividing the top vote getters' points by number of lists submitted. Maybe that ratio would be more indicative of their relative popularity. Perhaps that wouldn't quite do it, but some refinement of the approach might work. @wikkidpissah or someone could come up with a jazzy name for this metric.I guess what I am saying is that while it's a great idea, I think the 500pt club is looking more like a function of having a ton of lists for a year (The Matrix), or years people can't go as deep with but have a clear cut stud or two (Godfather), than it is a comment on the quality of the movie.
Not that I am willing to do more math, but I am wondering if a criteria should have been set of at least being on X number of lists and averaging 20pts/vote, which Tap and Terminator would have qualified for.

Lynch did such a great job making me root for the Harkonnens, his movie comes off as more of a tragedy. A tragedy that makes me laugh throughout. I can't imagine what the DeLaurentises were thinking when they decided Lynch was the guy for this, but I love his treatment - I wonder if they got what they were hoping for. If nothing else it began the association of Lynch with MacLachlan, which (for me) culminated in the genius of Blue Velvet.Got 3 points from me.
"And how can this be?"
Forward to the 1:32 mark for the answer!

Isnt somebody doing a remake or a Netflix series or something of it now?Lynch did such a great job making me root for the Harkonnens, his movie comes off as more of a tragedy. Did the movie make sense if you were familiar with the book?Lynch did such a great job making me root for the Harkonnens, his movie comes off as more of a tragedy. Yep, Denis Villeneuve is directing.Isnt somebody doing a remake or a Netflix series or something of it now?
They cut 1 hour off the original version!! LOL. Lynch was like.."this is a nightmare".Lynch did such a great job making me root for the Harkonnens, his movie comes off as more of a tragedy. Yes. It was basically a psuedo-dadaist interpretation of Herbert's book. I pitied anyone who wasn't familiar with the original text and tried to make sense of the movie.Did the movie make sense if you were familiar with the book?
I believe a full cut is available. It's really long. Not sure if that is Lynch's cut though. They cut 1 hour off the original version!! LOL. Lynch was like.."this is a nightmare".
I want to now see a directors cut. Make a directors cut!!! LOL.
SciFy channel did one a while back too. Never saw it. I think William Hurt was in it.Isnt somebody doing a remake or a Netflix series or something of it now?
Good choice. Vive les Quebecois!!Yep, Denis Villeneuve is directing.
The only other cut is not approved nor endorsed by Lynch.I believe a full cut is available. It's really long. Not sure if that is Lynch's cut though.
But it is really long. The only other cut is not approved nor endorsed by Lynch.
I didn't care for his recent Blade Runner sequel. It looked terrific but most modern movies do. I found the storytelling to be ponderous.Good choice. Vive les Quebecois!!Yep, Denis Villeneuve is directing.
Couldn't the original be described this way too?I found the storytelling to be ponderous.
Why is Body Heat listed? That movie came out in '81.
I don't know. It wouldn't be the first time a mistake happened. Maybe it was a goof and I robbed Body Double of some points? What other movie are you going to find with Dana Carvey and Billy Crystal playing bit roles as mime food servers? I mean, in an alternate universe, they make a whole film out of that by itself. So glad "Tap" is #1. Has to be one of the movies across all of the years that holds up.
TAP INTO AMERICA!!
mime is moneyWhat other movie are you going to find with Dana Carvey and Billy Crystal playing bit roles as mime food servers? I mean, in an alternate universe, they make a whole film out of that by itself.
Body Double was robbed! Both are good movies, and I especially like Body Heat. Just save the points for '81.I don't know. It wouldn't be the first time a mistake happened. Maybe it was a goof and I robbed Body Double of some points?
I didn't vote for those but I may have been the only one who voted for Crimes of Passion. Kathleen Turner as a prostitute and Anthony Perkins as a psycho reverend for starters.Breakin 2 and Conan The Destroyer got votes.....LOL!!!!!
Guilty pleasures for someone here (not mine).
That belonged to Night of The Comet (which I had to leave off). I own the freaking scream factory deluxe edition of that cinematic classic.
Great googly moogly... Tap is one of my favorite movies and I've seen it so many times I can pretty much quote or paraphease the entire thing. Never realized that was Carvey until now.Gr00vus said:What other movie are you going to find with Dana Carvey and Billy Crystal playing bit roles as mime food servers? I'm not one to be a whistle blower, but I'm starting to suspect this thing is rigged. KP is starting to slip up more and more.Like you did with the Bounty which got single digits AND multiple digit votes?
Trust me, if I was rigging it the top 10s would look a bit different.I'm not one to be a whistle blower, but I'm starting to suspect this thing is rigged. KP is starting to slip up more and more.

This is final crap!
Oh! My God! This movie is awful. Almost as bad as "the hangover". Some people find this movie to be funny. Some dare to call this kind of filming: Humor! Obviously in my opinion they are seriously wrong. There's no humor in here. No laughs. Nothing is funny about the movie. It can be really annoying at times. It's the same empty, humor, over and over again. So annoying. I couldn't watch it till the end. I think no one has ever finished viewing the movie. It's impossible. Hum...maybe if someone forced me to watch it the way they did in clockwork orange; but then I'd had to throw up. 8.0? Is it possible? Utter crap!
THIS IS SPINAL TAP
@Eephus I watched The Hit tonight, and I think if anything you've downplayed how great it is. It was fan-freaking-tastic and would have received top points from me if I'd watched it in time. I want to encourage anyone in this thread to watch it, as I think it would be appealing to a broad audience. There are the stunning performances (when John Hurt is only the third-best performance in your movie, you've got something) and amazing directing and cinematography, but also what I thought was pretty much non-stop action, but in a smart way. I don't see how anyone wouldn't like this movie. Stephen Frears had a great two-year run with this and My Beautiful Laundrette as his first two features. Sheesh.I watched "The Hit" last week and highly recommend it. It's a black comedy about the kidnapping and planned murder of an informant who turned on his bosses ten years earlier. The film casts against type with Terrence Stamp playing the philosophical informant and John Hurt as the more malevolent of the two hitmen. Both are terrific as is a very young Tim Roth.
It's extremely dark and almost everyone ends up dead in the end but there's still a fair bit of humor.
I started watching "Once Upon a Time in America" but man it is long.
