FFA Official Horror Movie Thread Catching up on Shudder and Various Streaming Platforms (6 Viewers)

I'm listening to Dr. Sleep right now on Audible, I just listened to The Shining. I'm 30% of the way in and it's not up to snuff. It's lacking tension and a sense of dread. I hope it gets better.
Most sequels in this genre are not great. I don't go to theatres anyway so maybe I'll catch it on cable some day.

Just watched 2009 Final Destination and Final Destination 2. I'm not normally in to blood and gore but the paranormal and premonition topics do fascinate me. So I liked these movies.

Dont watch the rest of them.  Not good.

Saw Zombieland: Double Tap in the theaters yesterday and found it funny and entertaining. I thought the first one was excellent. This one isn't nearly as good but still a lot of fun. Good jokes and good zombie killing sequences.

3/5 stars

On a side note, I don't even know if I could consider these as horror movies. Sure there are lots of zombies and lots of gore, but other than that these movies are more action / comedy than anything else. There's never really a scary moment, no jump scares that I can recall, no extremely tense or uncomfortable moments. Just non stop jokes.

Oh and.....  Zoey Deutch

5/5 stars

Fans of American Movie will enjoy this:

The local cult movie house is showing Coven, and director Mark Borchardt will be there in person discussing the movie.

This is someone I’ve actually worked with on another film in the past. People think he’s playing a character in American Movie. He’s not, that’s actually what he’s like. Coven is funny.

ETA: iirc, he turned down a role in Riding in Cars with Boys and pissed off Penny Marshall.

Watched Eli on Netflix and kind of liked it.  It starts out like its going to be a cookie cutter ghost story snoozefest, but it really picks up towards the end and goes in a different direction.  I definitely saw a twist coming, but I did not guess where they took it.

About 20 minutes into this.  Interesting so far.

Also just had on Tales of Halloween on amazon.  I have seen it before.  Not bad for some halloween fun.  10 short stories.

Nevermind on Tales of Halloween.  Most of it was terrible.  Some was decent.

I just watched Hereditary.  I have no idea what I just saw.

Loved the look and the acting from the main actress, but I was mostly bored during Midsommar.  Like I posted in the other thread - the first 20mins or so were great, and were right on par with why I loved Hereditary.  Then they got to Sweden and it felt like the last 10mins of Hereditary (which I didn't like much at all) stretched to 2 hours.

Not even horror movies.  I've seen Oldboy, but was excited to see the other two in the "trilogy" on there too and need to get to them.  Also - Audition is on there and I need to watch that again.

We watched Hell House II and III last night. Second one was meh compared to the others, but enjoyed the 3rd one. For the most part we liked the whole series.

yea the 2nd is such a letdown. ill probably watch a hell house 1 or 3 and houses october built this week also.

As Avove So Below - "When a team of explorers ventures into the catacombs that lie beneath the streets of Paris, they uncover the dark secret that lies within this city of the dead."This one has pretty poor reviews but it kept my interest - Netflix
I wasn't going to go through the whole thread, but went back a couple pages to see if this one was listed.  I just watched with the wife and 17 year-old daughter.  Daughter couldn't watch and had her head buried in the blanket the whole time.

Wife hurt her throat screaming a couple of times.

I don't usually jump at the jump scares, but this one got me good.  and I knew it was coming.

I don't care for the Blair Witch style of camera work, but the concept had my interest, so I watched to the end.  I liked it.

Joe Rogan had Rick Baker the movie makeup artist on his podcast. It is a really fun listen with some good behind the scenes stories. I love this guy he is a true artist. If your a horror/movie makeup fan it's a must listen.

I watched The Audition last night. I don't know if my expectations were to high but I was left disappointed. I doubt I would have even finished it if I had not heard how great it was.

  Win some lose some.

I was surprised that it got the mild acclaim it did.  I thought it was pretty bad too.
I wish I could get back those 2 hours of my life. An utter crap fest. I really hope Peele does not follow M Knight’s road after making a glorious debut with Get Out and then follows with a string of flop after flop after flop.

Time will tell.

Get out was way over rated in my opinion.

It probably was. Despite the over hype, it was a very entertaining film. Peele's follow up was utter crap.

Anyway back to the Shudder. I am so thrilled with this new channel. I really hope it catches on more so they can pump out more quality original content like Creepshow. I need more of that show!!! And so far my first foray into original movies was a good one. I do recommend checking out Summer of 1984. Captured the 80's nicely and the acting was pretty damn good.

I liked it. The ending was a little unexpected too imo.

Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale is a relatively obscure one that is a favorite of mine.  It's from Finland and is a bit of a horror/comedy.  Should be on the streaming sites.
Thanks - haven't seen this one.

It is on Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, Kanopy, Hoopla, and Vudu (with ads)

I watched the original A Nightmare on Elm Street with the 13 year old last night.  We just recently let him start dipping into R movies and he seems to be gravitating to horror.   About a month ago he randomly had on NoES 6, and we were laughing at it's cheesiness (scene where Freddy is playing a video game with one of the kids in it??), so Santa got him the original to see if that would hold up any better.  It did - there were a couple scares in it for him, but we both admitted that the f/x were a bit dated.  On the plus side it did get us talking even more about practical vs. CGI which was good.  The thing we were chuckling about the most was the score.  I think it was the first time Freddy was really chasing Nancy, some 80s syth music kicked in.  I was laughing to myself, but not out loud to effect him.  Then I hear him start laughing and say "what is that - lasers shooting off?"

The original is a classic. Dream Warriors is also a classic. And 4 was not bad either. 2 and 6 are utter crap. Unwatchable. Dream Child....meh.

New Nightmare though was creepy as hell. I liked it a lot.

The Curse of Buckout Road

Had this one sitting around for a while so I figured I’d watch it. Danny Glover got off easy in the movie. Meh. 2.5/5
