FFA Official Horror Movie Thread Catching up on Shudder and Various Streaming Platforms (6 Viewers)

I watched The Girl Next Door and, all I can say is WTF?

I did not want to keep watching but I did. That was a horrific subject and made me really sad.  The movie started by saying it was based on a true story. I find that hard to believe and I will be going into an internet search to find this. I am really hoping that most of it was bs and the true part was some crazy lady killed her niece. I can not imagine that going on when so many kids knew what was going on.

Holy ####!!!! Sometimes I hate people. Turns out much of that movie was true. Just disgusting, I feel like crying now.

Based on the board's recommendation, I started watching this with the wife.  After 1/2 hour, she said she couldn't take it and it was too similar to another movie we had seen, An American Crime.  Turns out they have the same source material

I told my wife about The Girl Next Door and now she wants to see it. It sounds like a decision she may regret.

Watched the Fanatic. Now hear me out, when you see a movie that is directed/produced by Fred Durst (of Limp Bizkit) and staring John Travolta, most people run away as fast as they can. Travolta plays an autistic, super fan of an action movie actor, who he begins to stalk once the guy refuses to sign an autograph. I think Travolta did an amazing job in this movie, but I made the mistake of thinking of Simple Jack from Tropic Thunder towards the end of the movie and it sort of shattered my enjoyment a little. It has its stupid moments where you can see Durst threw something in that had no place in the movie, but it was a decent Redbox type movie.

Watched two pretty good ones lately

Head Count - cool take on the "I accidentally summoned a supernatural creature" trope- Netflix

As Avove So Below - "When a team of explorers ventures into the catacombs that lie beneath the streets of Paris, they uncover the dark secret that lies within this city of the dead."This one has pretty poor reviews but it kept my interest - Netflix

Fell a little behind, but got through a few more - this experiment isn't going to last long if the movies continue to be as bad as the first couple listed:

Slumber Party Massacre - holy 80s T&A.  High School version of KP would have probably watched this on a loop just for that, but adult KP was bored to tears watching this one.  I didn't find it cheesy in a good way like My Bloody Valentine, and it didn't have anything mildly original like that one did to hook me.   I have found that I do find it harder to appreciate the 80s movies that I didn't see when I was growing up when I try to watch them now.  3/10.

31 -  This honestly might be one of the worst POS I have tried to watch in some time.  It took all my energy to not turn this off.  1/10

Audition - Every bit as awesome as I remember.  The build up here is amazing as you wonder WTF the you watching with this weird rom-com thing, but then #### hits the fan like the phone call and the bag, and …. :scared:   This was the perfect timing for a movie I love to come up and reel me back into the project.  9/10

I think that makes it 7 movies, so I am only 1 behind if I get to one tonight.

Agreed...sooo good.

Midsommar. Put me firmly in the WTF category. Easily the most stupidest thing I've done in quite a while spending two and a half hours of my life on this. 1/10
Yeah, we watched this last night. It was weird and I am not sure what I really saw. My wife liked it, but I feel like I need to go to a site to explain WTH this was about.

I think tonight will be the new Annabelle or the Girl Next Door....

I'm sure I'm just old and don't get the artsy fartsy horror stories. It's gotta be tough to make any movie let alone something as narrow genre as horror. So I'll give props for the attempt at being different. But man that was weird.

A good one that I'm sure was mentioned is The Quiet Place.

Good luck if you choose this.

Watched The Taking of Deborah Logan. I do enjoy the found footage genre and I felt this was pretty good. I really liked the initial idea and feel it got a little off track but still solid.

Really enjoyed the new Annabelle. The Warrens evil room is unleashed. Really cool flick.

I didn't enjoy it, but I need to give it another watch  To be fair, my mind/attention wasn't devoted to it as my 15 year old daughter was on her first date (homecoming dance) with a boy who she told me has been a little too "handsy" with her this past week and she had to shut him down a couple times.

She ended up dumping him 3/4th the way through the dance and coming home in tears.  The fallout this morning is she is getting flamed on social media by his friends for dumping him.  :(

This is the problem with our society today in a nutshell. Right there. It is just awful.

Plenty of horror double features at my local theater this month. I'll probably see one of my favorites this week: the newly restored Evil Dead is playing with Fulci's The Beyond.

I watched it. Can't say I enjoyed it. It was pretty disturbing but not close to something like Martyrs imo.

Just finished this on Netflix - In the tall grass. Based on a short story by Stephen King and Joe Hill. I really liked the story and the movie was pretty good. A little bit on the off center (no where near Midsommar) and not for everyone but decent enough horror flick. I'd give it a 6.5 out of 10.

i'm watching that Herditary movie and my wife refused and went to bed. 48 minutes in and it looks like a good movie, so hopefully it stays good. maybe get a little more positive too  :sadbanana:

Just got done with Crawl--Redbox rental.

Grab a drink and some popcorn, suspend a little bit of belief and have fun for 90 minutes. This movie is well deserving of the high critical rankings it got. It is simple, fun and edge of your seat type viewing. My wife and I really enjoyed it. Good female empowerment flick for teenage girls.

I enjoyed this one also.  Definitely recommend the popcorn.

AMC has some good Stephen King flicks right now. Misery now, then Thinner, Silver Bullet, Shining, Pet Cemetery... 🍿

For those that don't know (I didn't until recently) Joe Hill is King's son

There's a new Shining coming to theaters soon. Forget what it's called. It looks  like a grown Danny is in this one. Doesn't look similar to the original. Not sure what to make of it from the ad.

Dr. Sleep

same director did Hush - which is a very solid  horror movie and The Haunting of Hill House (both on Netflix)

Hell House 2 was pretty entertaining. I'm not sure how I missed this series when it came out but I am digging it now.

I'm listening to Dr. Sleep right now on Audible, I just listened to The Shining. I'm 30% of the way in and it's not up to snuff. It's lacking tension and a sense of dread. I hope it gets better.
