FFA Official Horror Movie Thread Catching up on Shudder and Various Streaming Platforms (6 Viewers)

I think people in here are up on the horror movies way more than I have.   IF I was doing a month of horror movies, I would want to throw in mostly new stuff with some classics to look forward to.   Also have a mix of styles, years, etc..

There were a lot more than I expected, so I am interested in other takes if people are truly interested in trying as more of a group, so which of these movies have the masses seen?

A lot of stuff that I assume most have seen like:

Carrie, The conjuring, Scream, Night of the Living Dead, American Werewolf in London, Hellraiser, Child's Play, etc..

Here are ones that I have seen, but would like a re-watch and are ones I suggest to others a lot:

Splinter, Green Room, Hereditary, Ginger Snaps, Innkeepers, Behind the Mask, Deathgasm

Ones that I haven't seen that I wrote down:

Apostle, Autopsy of Jane Doe, Cam, Creep, Eyes of my Mother, XX, Les Diabolique, Starry Eyes, Deep Red, Alice Sweet Alice,  Suspiria (new version), The Crazies,  Slumber Party Massacre

I am sure there are a ton more, just an initial pass through to see if there were many titles that interested me enough to try something like this.

Who is it that does the 31 in 31 horror movies for October?

The movie club in the FFA got me thinking - would there be any interest in trying to do a group 31 in 31 with movies that would be available on the streaming services?  Not mandatory or anything, but trying to get a collective list of 31 movies for the Halloween season would be fun, and then people would participate in however many they can.  Just thought it might be a fun idea for this year and an interesting way to get people exposed to some new horror they might not have seen.
I did this a couple years ago in the thread.  It was fun.

At this point I think I've combed the streaming services clean of quality horror, but I'd be up for this.

Some "recent" classics I feel should be included because they would be great discussion

Martyrs (French version)

It Follows

Sinister

Let the Right One In

Bone Tomahawk

The Wailing

Train to Busan

Noroi: The Curse

I THINK only the bolded are streaming, unless I missed the others.

Maybe have everyone that wants to participate drop 5-10 titles
Not a bad idea, and I am up for that.  If we think we have at least 5-6 people interested, maybe just PM me 6-7 titles and we go from there?  Probably have some doubles, etc..

Do we just stick to options that are streaming with no rentals?  Maybe a cap of 2-3 that would be rentals so we aren't dropping $80 to do this?  Looks like right now we would have @Big League Chew, @Scoresman, and myself.  Anybody else interested?

I figure maybe if we get a list together by 9/15 or so?  That way we know what's going on, and to be honest - I might have to get a jump start.  I doubt I would be able to keep pace with one a day in October.

What are you guys using for streaming. I can get most movies with firestick
I have access to Prime, Hulu, and Netflix.   I wouldn't be opposed to renting one or two or adding on something like Shudder for Prime for a month (thought about that anyway).  I also get a ton of movies through the library system here too, so I could use that to supplement as well.    Like I said, I am not opposed to $10 or so for this venture, but I don't want to end up renting everything - I think there should be enough quality stuff we could mine on the cheap.

So if we do the list thing, do we try for mostly movies that you have not seen?  Example - if each sends a list of 6, we do max of 2 that you have seen before?

justwatch.com is a great site to see what is streaming

Can I nominate Black Christmas (1974)?..free on Vudu (with ads) or on Kanopy (free service through some libraries)

@JoeSteeler - if you want in, feel free to PM a list of 5-6 movies.   Still waiting for feedback if people think we should try to nominate mostly ones we haven't seen before or if people don't care about that.

I am interested but not sure I can commit the time. 31 movies in 31 days is crazy in my world. I do enjoy the horror genre though. I guess you can count me in but don't count on me.

I honestly dont know if I can do all of them either.  Plan is to have people submit ideas and come up with 31 movies, and people can get to what they get to.  Just hoping for some discussion and a handful of new movies.

TubiTV should also be a good source.  Every horror fan should install this on their firestick or whatever device.  It's free with maybe 2-3 commercials per movie, but the horror selection is quite large.

Like I said, not mandatory. It will be fun to get a list together of 31 horror movies to watch.  If you only watch 10, cool.  Watch 31 in 31 - cool.  If it takes until Christmas to watch them all, cool.
OK I am in under those conditions

I saw It 2 tonight. Haven't seen the first one so I probably missed a lot of the backstory and references. This was not a good movie, yet still very fun. The scares were cheap and predictable. It was 3 hours, way too long. The final fight lasted forever and the ending dragged unnecessarily.

The black ladies that were seated around me made the viewing experience more entertaining.

Glad to see you back from the ban.

This is what I was afraid of.  I am probably going to pass on this, especially given the length - f that.   I thought Part 1 was merely OK.

If anyone is interested in a 31 in 31 next month- plz send a list of 5-6 soon.  Otherwise I will just wing it and post a list of my own.

Remember- this is to focus on movies available on streaming sites.

Seeing part 1 definitely makes 2 better. Mainly because I enjoyed the kids half a lot. I loved it as a whole. But yeah I do think the final fight went too long, (but can understand why).

I thought IT #1 was pretty meh.    I'll watch the second one but only when I can see it free.

This movie was way too long. The whole 2nd act also felt like it dragged on a bit too long. There were some good scenes in there but it felt like we were watching the exact same scene over and over again. That said, I still found the movie to be quite enjoyable. Pennywise is fun and freaky every time he's on screen.

It has been a while since I've seen the original so looking forward to revisiting.

Just saw Ready or Not at the theater.  Exactly as good as you would expect, no better no worse.
I liked this one a lot. Fun, funny & a fairly original premise (which seems to be rare nowadays) that doesn't get too ridiculous as the movie progresses.  Loved the actress who played the "bride" and thought the character deals with most situations pretty well, no over the top eye rolls.

Would recommend.

Good call. I was at a free advanced screening and my expectations were low. I think the producers were shooting for a fun dumb ride and they pretty much accomplished it.

We liked this one as well--main actress could be Margot Robbie's twin that is for sure. She was also in The Babysitter. which if you haven't seen. is a tremendously fun movie. I have watched it several times and just love it.

We also just got back from It 2--movie was good--not great. It was long--almost too long, but I felt they covered the book pretty well.  I felt like I was watching a director's cut of a movie that could have had 20 minutes of extra scenes taken out. I will buy the dual pack Blu Ray when it comes out.

Just got one list.  Anybody else wants to PM one, please do so by tonight.   I was going to get at 31 in 31 list together soon - if I have any shot at trying this, I need a head start!

I saw Tigers are not afraid. I enjoyed it but it's not great. I kind of liked the interactions of the kids.

Its a retelling of The Monkeys Paw in a different time and place.

Anyone here use Shudder?

Does it have a search function? I can't seem to find one.

The losers club which is a Stephen King podcast put up a list of horror movies for October. I know I can't watch a movie a day so I am starting the list now and I will see how many of the movies I can watch by the end of October.

The first movie on the list is Rec

I caught a matinee of Ready or Not. It was serviceable. Not great but it had some good special effects and a few laughs but it was not very scary.

I freaking loved that cult classic from 1981. Great movie. Has not aged amazingly but it still has so much style and a tremendous cast.
To me, it’s a smart plot with a great cast. Agreed on the aging, but I’ve always liked it.
