FFA Official Horror Movie Thread Catching up on Shudder and Various Streaming Platforms (7 Viewers)

Here are a couple of Christmas horror movies that make movies like Krampus look terrible.  No surprise I guess that both are foreign.  To make it nice and confusing, they both have the same name!

A Christmas Tale - Amazon Rental/Shudder - Five Spanish kids find a woman in a well who is dressed as Santa Claus.  This one has a big 80s vibe similar to The Goonies or Stranger Things and also mixes up a little bit of Home Alone as well.  The result is a fun movie that has good references to the 80s including an awesome scene in tribute to the greatest 80s movie of all, The Karate Kid.

Rare Exports - A Christmas Tale - Amazon Rental/Shudder - An expedition crew in Finland excavate Santa Claus and his helpers, only this Santa Claus is the nightmarish one from Norse mythology.  A very cool movie that's a great take on the ####ed up version of Santa Claus from Norse fairytales.  The climax is epic as #### and the ending equally satisfying as it is hilarious.   Santa's helpers are these creepy, skinny, naked mall santa lookalikes and give the movie the right mix of camp and seriousness.  This one is a must watch.  Well worth the rental cost.

I started Beyond The Gate but backed out after 45 minutes.  I think I'll go back in this weekend and give it another shot.  Then on to @Scoresman's Xmas recommendations.

On the flip side, I just saw Shut In at the second run theater.  Not very good, and I tend to be quite forgiving of horror films.  Don't pay for this.

Megan is Missing is pretty messed up.  Maybe a few notches below Martyrs, but messed up nonetheless.
Yeah...incredibly...stillthinking about that movie weeks after I watched it. Really a punch in the gut and the reality of todays sexual predators online. Every time I see a missing teenager flier I will think of this movie.

Still need to see Martyrs.

Caught Train to Busan. Very much a formula zombie flick, but executed to near perfection, IMO.
Rented it lat week, and agree.  I liked it a lot.  Only scene I didn't like was

the scene where the 3 guys push through the zombie train car like it was nothing... the movie did so good setting up the zombies as scary and difficult to escape/fight, then that one scene was like "eh, yeah, a little duck tape and a bat and I'm good".

Well, it's not like it was easy by any stretch. And the zombies didn't have super human strength or anything (it's just that you couldn't kill them). The reason all the other people were so easily taken down is because they were unprepared and/or outnumbered.

Finally saw Train to Busan and I'm not an aficionado of zombie movies or anything but I've seen all the classics and to me this is the best zombie movie I've ever seen.
Saw it tonight. I love zombie flicks and this one is easily top 5 in my book. Great movie!!

saw the trailer for this on youtube and was intrigued...will check it out.

Yeah great movie and hottest dead chick ever in a film. I kept hoping she'd come back to life or something so I didn't feel creepy about liking dem titties.

I was feeling the same way. was hoping shed start walking at the end so I could check out her T&A

I Am Not a Serial Killer - Kodi (Exodus)/Amazon Rental - A sociopath teenager must deal with his own demons as well as the one living next door.  This is a must see in my opinion.  There is nothing quite like this out there which is a rare thing nowadays with horror.  Christopher Lloyd is in this and gives an incredibly creepy, yet sympathetic performance.  If there were Oscars for horror, he'd get best actor for this for sure.

Just watch "A Christmas Horror Story".  Not a bad little Xmas anthology if you are bored.

I like these kinds of flicks.  A couple more on the list I will probably watch are "Tales of halloween" and "Holidays".

I actually wanted to watch Trick R Treat again the other day, but it wasn't on netflix, so came across these ones.

Tales of Halloween is okay.  I'm partial to it because one of the vignettes stars Barry Bostwick.  It's the best one IMO.  I sat next to him on a plane ride a couple of years ago and had a funny but awkward conversation.  Good times.

I watched "Pet" the other day. Really interesting movie with kind of a ??? ending. Worthwhile for a Redbox rental.

This was one odd movie.

Picked up Blair Witch from redbox last night... watched it in the dark with the sound system up.  Really liked it.  If you liked the original you will like this.  Very similar in it's story telling method/camera work.  Starts a little slow then ramps up to 'bananas'.

Looking forward to Split. More suspense thriller....but can see the creep factor at 11 on this one.

I used to be a big Shyamalan fan... until The Happening... happened.  Now I have no faith in anything he seems to put out.  I haven't seen The Visit though.

The Visit was his best output since The Sixth Sense IMO. I thought Signs was decent as was Unbreakable.....but anything after that was pure hot garbage until The Visit. Total return to form and a really fun movie. You need to see it.

Agree on The Visit.  I didnt even realize that was M Night.  Thought it was pretty good.

Also looking forward to Split.

Just watched Blair Witch.  The jump scares and creepiness help overcome the "can see everything coming a mile away" factor and make it a pretty decent one time viewing.

I thought this one was pretty solid.

I liked the new blair witch. I was a pretty big bw1 fan so they did a good job with this film

watched pet, very weird movie. good acting. at the end your kind of wondering wtf you just watched

the visit was good twist definitely worth the watch. one thing I couldn't stand was the kid and the rapping.

saw a Christmas horror story. I don't remember watching it but I must have enjoyed it. thinking I was too drunk to remember all the details

re-watched Hell House LLC. for some reason I like that movie hoping someone else will watch and give a review

2016 was a good year for horror films. 2017 early release im looking forward to and has high reviews already is The Dark Tapes

I need to give Blair Witch another try I guess. Loved the first one. This one did nothing for me at all, despite everyone saying how scary it was.

Maybe I just had untealistic expectations or whatever.

I remember my wife and I buying into the entire Blair Witch mockumentary (was being shown on Sc-Fi channel if I remember correctly) hook line and sinker. We went into the original Blair Witch totally believing this was based on a true found footage story.

It made for a great experience. At the time it was a brilliant marketing campaign. It worked like a charm.

I will check out the new one which is supposed to be a true sequel correct?

yeah I wouldn't say it was scary really. more of a nostalgia type movie for me

Yes.  Younger brother of a girl from the original movie (and friends) set out to find the house from the original footage.

I'm with you.  I liked a couple things but was generally underwhelmed.  Wife loved it tho.  And we were huge BWP fans when it came out.  I still have it on VHS :bag:

I laughed throughout the first one.  Should I expect the same for the sequel?
Yes.  In my opinion however you felt about the first one you will feel exactly the same way about this one.

The new Blair Witch coulda done a lot more cool stuff with the technology they brought.  Dropped the ball a little on that one, but it is what it is.  Basically a rip of the original with more ramped up craziness.

The Devil was solid.

The Collection:

from Netflix so probably not new.  A madman collects humans & slices & dices them up.  more in the grotesque category than horror, but thought I'd report.

3/5 as some pretty good slasher moments & body parts laying around.  Mucho blood, et al.

This is a sequel.  Had you watched the first one?  I remember liking the first one, but never got around to this movie.
