You wanna watch another truly horrible Smith/Depp(x2) film try and sit through Yoga Hosers. Has Depp's daughter in a lead role and is just a terrible piece of grade B cheese. Awful and cringe worthy.[icon] said:

Agreed. Of all of the "trapped in the house by an evil person" movie the actions of the characters in this movie made zero sense.
I liked this one. Didn't waste time trying to set the scene or develop characters. Pretty much jumped right into it. I thumb it up.
My 14 year old and I watched it two nights ago. It's like they had a concept and part of a script and started making a movie, but then just winged it from there. My daughter was literally laughing at parts that should have been creepy/scary and questioning what in the hell they were thinking.
Saw it in the theatre and there was a big group of teens in front of us who all seemed to hate it. My girl and I liked it alot. Looking forward to watching it again. I don't see where you're coming from at all with them winging it. Seemed very cohesive to me. What specifically was disjointed to you?
The final direction of the plot seemed thrown together. It was poorly developed at best, with very little payoff.
Yea, you didn't watch very closely. There were several hints along the way. The writers knew exactly what story they wanted to tell. It was very set up.
It was a story about a multi-generational (hence the title), devil/demon worshiping cult that does rituals on their own family members to summon their overlords. Very Lovecraftian. The details are a little sketchy, as I've only seen it the one time in the theatre... but the demon god needs a male host, but got shoved into the little girl because the males in the family would kill themselves or something (The mom kept the eventual host away from her mom, but she got ahold of the girl). Her "accident" wasn't an accident at all, but a ritual to prepare to bring the demon into a suitable host body. It was a secret society/occult movie without the hooded robes, caves and overly dramatic recitations from a grimoire. This is why a lot of people say it was derrivitive of movies like Rosemary's Baby or The Omen. That kind of stuff is fascinating to me.
I guess I can see how the buzz would get expectations up, but after rewatching it last night, it deserves all the praise IMO. Beautifully shot, creepy, scary, great performances and casting, cool story. A very mature movie for a genre that tends to be pretty teenyboppy. Hereditary and A Quiet Place are some of the best horror movies in recent time that I can remember. Maybe some recency bias, but I think they'll stand the test of time (though I have yet to see Quiet outside of the theater, I can see that being less of an experience in a living room setting).
I watched this Saturday night and really liked it BUT:

It has so little story that it actually erases some of the story from the next movie you watch.
gonna catch "a quiet place" in the next couple of nights. have heard good things about it, but still going with low expectations hoping to be pleasantly surprised.
I am definitely going to see this, but I have a slight concern as to how seriously I can take what I am about to see. Michael Myers killed his first victim at what, like age 8? Laurie was a baby. Then he came back when Laurie was 18, so he had to be like 25 or 26. Now it's 40 years later. He has to be at least 65 going around with super strength (probably) and murdering everyone. He's been in jail 40 years or whatever, probably not exercising, just standing there looking creepy. 65 year old senior citizen who never works out is about to go ninja on everyone.CurlyNight said:
