Fifteen Days/Songs of Christmas Music Mixtape Draft - Links to final mixes in post #1 (1 Viewer)

I am not Luis Donado16, but we sound kind of simpatico.  Obviously, I knew that this was the second version of the song that would get picked early.  For me, I never listen to it precisely because I listen to the Jackson 5 version.  If you asked me to tell you a reason why I don't particularly care for the Springsteen version, I doubt I could tell you.  Maybe I just want him to throw in a few verses about losing our innocence to these wind-beaten streets.

I'm going to bet against a Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town run and pick an unusual pairing and mashup that shouldn't work but is brilliant:

1.04: ""Little Drummer Boy/Peace On Earth" by Bing Crosby and David Bowie

(Pop Standards)

I vividly remember first seeing this clip on MTV and wondering, "What the heck is this?"  And it instantly became part of my Christmas music collection, one of the first tracks to get played when the tree goes up.
I love to annoy my wife by doing the Bowie noodling bits.  "Peace on Earth ..."

Now that I've done a little prep..

These mandatory songs are awful, what a brutal set of rolls.  Will have to pass up 3-4 great tracks for straight poo.  Away In a Manger ,S?  :yucky:

On the plus side, being this handcuffed, maybe I can keep it all spotify after all

More #####ing later.  Guess I'll don my JML hat for this one.  Better watch out, indeed.

If there's popular demand, we can add a 4th option for the mandatory songs in either or both core categories.

ETA: ...but we should decide before the sale ends
we can add a fourth option for the traditional carols?

ETA  "Jingle Bells" finished fourth in the original rolls.  That seems like it would be a pretty easy one.

I probably wouldn't have chosen these rules, but they do introduce the scarcity that Eephus intended.  I respect it as a design decision as it's forced me to change my usual approach to music drafts ("Hey nerds, here are some songs I like!").

Not really that big a deal, just hit home as I was arranging things, just how many I dig that I'll have to pass up.  I'll still do a zip on the end, of things I like that aren't streaming.

I'd be cool with adding the fourth choice.. kinda up to those who've picked already.  Speaking selfishly, these are not my faves.. and particularly Silent Night and White Christmas are about as dullsville as it gets, in all forms

:sehorn:

Lot of folks taking sleepers in the first round, leaving value on the table. /bloom

As it stands now, we're taking three traditional carols to fulfill that category (plus whichever ones we can fit into other categories, as desired). As I understand it: everyone is taking a rendition of "Silent Night" and "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" plus one more -- to fulfill the category, that is.

Are you simply saying we could opt to take a fourth traditional carol? And not at the expense of another category?

No, everyone is taking any 2 of the 3 of Away in a Manger, Silent Night, and God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.  The proposal would allow us to take any 2 of 4 with a new carol added.

Looks like we could add Jingle Bells and Blue Christmas to the existing choices.

*slams table* DAMMIT!

I haven't paid attention to this thread, but please tell me that Tim's partaking and doing nothing but picking Neil Diamond and Barry Manilow renditions.

I can take a PM

btw no idea how you tag people, does that make me old and dumb?

Also I vote yes on adding anything to the pool

BTW, It's Thousand Foot Krutch with a K and not a C.
Thanks.  And I moved it to the pop standard category since it is a cover of the song originally performed by Bobby Helms.  It wasn't obvious on first listen. :headbang:

The heirs of the songwriters must make a small fortune on royalties.
