Fire up the Torain bandwagon...! (1 Viewer)

Go try to find a "highlight reel" of Terrell Davis at Georgia. It doesn't exist. He did pretty well in Denver, I think.

Ryan Torain-RB- Broncos Oct. 26 - 11:05 pm et

The Rocky Mountain News expects Ryan Torain to "get increasingly more carries as the second half of the season progresses."

This probably means Torain will get maybe 5-6 touches behind Michael Pittman in Week 9, then if he takes advantage of those he'll continue to get more. Torain shouldn't be counted on for double-digit carries in a game until the Broncos' coaching staff proves it's willing to use him that much.

:coffee:

this train is almost out of steam. ALL hype, no production. Man, he's not even playing yet! Call me when this kid gets on the field.

i dont understand this line of thinking. So, is Torain supposed to be the next T Davis? Shanny needs to suck it up and draft a real running back instead of trying to 'find" the next sleeper every year. It's tiresome and the success rate is very low. Mike Bell, Slvin Young, torain.....who's next.

I think his point was that RB's don't need to be flashy to excel in Denver's system.

i agree, but they have to have a little skill. Selvin and Mike Bell sucked. I'm not saying Torain is of that mold, but c'mon, they need to get their next RB in the 1st couple of rounds.

Selvin may not be primary back material, but saying that he sucks seems fairly overstated. He's lightyears better than Bell.

Sure...we'll call you when he hits the field. But some shark in your league will already have picked him off your ww.

Or in a deeper league drafted him and has him stashed on his roster. I did this and know if he has a good game some guys will be posting when did I get him. Owners forget a lot players that are drafted in later rounds and think players are just laying aroung on the WW.

I remember you saying slaton was a flash in the pan last month. This post serves well for us torian owners.

Just saw this on rotoworld.com...

The Denver Post states that RB Michael Pittman will likely be questionable for this week's game with bruised ribs.

The Broncos disclosed a stinger injury after the Week 7 loss to the Patriots, but this is the first we've heard of the bruised ribs. The Post believes Ryan Torain is the healthiest back in Denver right now with Selvin Young nursing a sore groin and Andre Hall dealing with a sprained wrist. We're assuming that Pittman will start against Miami with Torain coming in for spot duty, but check practice reports to be safe on Pittman. Oct. 28 - 8:59 pm et

excerpt from Broncos return to work after relaxed bye week By PAT GRAHAM - AP Sports Writer, 2008-10-27 20:27

Running back Michael Pittman spent the time off resting his aching ribs on his couch. He's still sore from the beating he took against New England, but he's optimistic he can go Sunday against Miami.

``I'm feeling pretty good,'' Pittman said. ``Not 100 percent of course, but fine enough to play a football game.''

If not, rookie running back Ryan Torain may be ready to pitch in. Torain recently returned to practice after breaking a bone in his elbow in August.

``It was fun to be back out there and banging around with the team,'' he said after practice Monday.

The 225-pound bruiser out of Arizona State was having a great camp before his injury, even drawing comparisons to Terrell Davis from coach Mike Shanahan.

Torain could give the Broncos' ground game an added boost, but he hasn't been told how much playing time he'll receive. He spent the bye week brushing up on the playbook and getting in some more conditioning.

I just got him for LeRon McClain...but I already had Pittman, so if he doesn't show up I'll be okay.
there's a sucker born every minute. god that's awful. mcclain's value is on the decline and torain's is on the uptick. nice trade.
Thing is, there is nothing on our waiver wire and this person NEEDS a rb this week and McClain faces CLE. So short term good trade, long term better for me.

Just got him off the wire tonite. I was sweating a bit as I'm in first place and he had to pass through the rest of the league before he got to me. He's now my RB#6 right behind K. Smith. My gut tells me he'll be starting and getting 60%+ of the touches by week 12. I'll bump this thread at that time and either gloat or take my lumps. Either way, he's worth the roster spot IMO.

Yes you are correct about my feelings on Slaton and so far :goodposting: . But i stand by my analysis that Slaton wont be an every week each year starter in this league. Ya, a few good games are nice, but i need to see more.

Is anyone an every week starter each year?

I have never been a fan of drafting a RB from Denver for obvious reasons. Chances are, if you do have one this year on your roster, it wasn't because it was your first choice. You have to make do with what is out there in larger leagues and hope for the best. The biggest problem that people overlook is that even though everyone wants to avoid the dreaded rbbc that Denver can be known for, a ton of NFL teams are headed in that direction now as well.

With that being said, other than Quentin Griffin, there has not been one single RB that has had less than a 4.0 ypc average (minimum 50 carries) since 2004. They flat out run the ball well no matter who is in the backfield. They have made a couple of average backs look like gold over the last few years.

1 Shanahan obviously likes this kid and his potential

2 Hall is hurt and has fumbling issues

3 Young hasn't played in weeks and is still nursing a groin injury

4 Pittman was running well but out of nowhere has developed bruised ribs and is limited

Any way you slice it, Torain is going to get his chance this week. He will get some carries but no-one knows how much playing time he will actually be given. Whether you avoid the Denver RB situation or not, this is looking better and better for him. If he does play well, I personally don't think we will see a massive rbbc. I think we will see the Broncos new starting RB for the rest of the season. This has happened before over there and it will surely happen again.

Much of what you say is true. But we don't know if he has a fumbling problem yet. If there is one thing that could kill him, that would be it. He's an unknown quantity right now.

With Gore on a bye, I am going to roll the dice this week with Torain. Hopefully he will give me something and not a goose egg.

We really don't know much of anything yet, as it's all conjecture at this point. Being fortunate enough myself to be able to pick up Torain through the Miami game, I only hope that he has enough chance to show how it may play out. It would be nice to have the RB in Denver if/when they ever go back to a primary back again--but even if that happens their remaining schedule looks like an up-and-down one.

I am jumping on. I just made a 2 for 1 trade so I now have the space to carry him and he is still available via WW. 12 team league.

count me in as well.

Just dropped Kevin Faulk for Torain. Really wanted to nab Felix Jones, but Torain looked a little better

I contemplated dropping Faulk, but in PPR he is more of a known quantity - even if it's not a huge quantity - then Torain.

seriously guys... the thread says Torain bandwagon.

This is a bandwagon: bandwagon

do you think that vehicle actually goes 'choo choo'???
For the record, my original post is titled "Fire up the Torain bandwagon...!, Or in this case...the Torain train!". So if you want to exclaim 'choo choo!' in this thread...that is A-OK with me.

The TRAIN is on my bench waiting to be used...but i have to say watching him run i see nothing special...he has no breakaway speed...he doesnt plow thru people or bowl them over...he doesnt break a lot of tackles...he picks up average yards...am i missing something :goodposting:
Yes, I think you're missing something and that being that he's 225 lbs. He reminds me of LJ or Jamal Lewis in that he's not going to beat you around the end but instead will be a vertical/North-South runner that will hit the hole (and he'll need a hole) and make one cut before making first contact with the LB or DB, blowing them up, and then dragging them for an additional five yards. He could provide the ball control and clock running capabilities that throwing the ball all game long to Marshall/Royal cannot. Torain's ability to chew up the clock will also keep the opposing offenses off the field against Denver's poor rushing defense. HE's got a tough matchup in week 9 but I'd be real curious to see how Denver will use him in the 2nd half if they have a lead. Introducing a fresh bruising RB in the middle of the season could be a recipe for success.

Can't say I saw anything better than Pittman during those three carries...

Not to mention Denver looks like a complete mess so I don't see this guy doing much until they figure something out.
