Anywhere I get fries, I always order them "Hot, fresh and crispy". That way I don't feel bad sending them back if they aren't right.
How often have you sent fries back? And how does that work? Do you go through the drive thru, eat some fries, find them not to your liking and then drive thru again to get new fries?

No, I look at them/try a few before i drive away. If they are not good, I'll ask for a fresh batch and also let them know that I can pull forward and wait if they want to start a new batch.

I don't know how fries well done at McDonald's would work. As far as I know, they don't cook fries in one-serving portions like they do at In-N-Out. They cook up a whole bunch of them, many orders at once, and then put them under the heat lamp. To cook a batch well done would require cooking an individual order on its own, or departing from standard protocol in some other creative way, and I don't think McDonald's is big on letting its minimum-wage employees depart from standard protocol.

By the way, the fries aren't the only thing you can get well done at In-N-Out. You can also get the burger anywhere from medium rare to well done (they come medium well by default). Medium rare is pink in the middle, something I haven't seen at other fast food places.

For real?

I couldn't imagine sending food back (unless it was the wrong order) at a fast food place.

That would be like going to the movies and demanding your money back because the Pauly Shore movie you just saw wasn't funny.

Boy....that's pretty ballsy. But I'm sure minimum wage earners harbor no grudges and would never tamper with your fries as they bring them out to you in your car.

Had a buddy of mine who worked at Wendy's and had a customer come in a give the cashier a big stink over the hamburger he was served to which my buddy was responsible for putting together. He cooked him up a new burger but got a fresh bun and wiped his ### with it before serving it.Person then ate the burger and was asked on his way out how the burger was and he says fantastic. :X

True story.

Brother....if I'm slaving my assssssss off in one of the crappiest environments imaginable with a bunch of derelicts and booger eaters making minimum wage and a guy rolls up to the drive thru, tells me his $0.99 cent french fries are not up to par and demands a fresh, new batch that he expects me to WALK OUT TO HIS CAR FOR HIM....I can imagine a scenario where a little spit and/or urine finds its way into your order. ESPECIALLY if the place is jam packed.

What's the other option? You wait at the window and piss the drivers off behind you? Do you ever go in?

Have you ever sent fries back a second time?

I assume it's shtick but you gotta know that ordering the fries that way is obnoxious and you're likely being ignored. I can't imagine you actually sit in the drive thru line, swish a few around your mouth and deliver a verdict.

I rarely use a drive-thru. Can't remember the last time I've sent them back a 2nd time.

Dude, it takes 5 seconds. Don't you check your order before you leave the drive-thru to make sure you got what you ordered?

My parents complained to a waiter at Denny's because, and this is a real quote, "we don't think the cooks were innovative enough."

I worked at Carls Jr when I was 16 and every so often people would order their fries well done or no salt or something different like that.

Way different to make sure you got everything and sampling for quality control. You only do this at fast food joints or other take out too? "I want my pizza hot, fresh, crispy on the bottom and with an equidistant placing of my toppings." C'mon.

I'm going to start doing this.

"Alright, here's your order sir, have a nice day!"

"Hold on, there Betty. Before I pull off, I'm going to make sure my medium french fry order meets my criteria of 'hot, fresh and crispy' and not a moment sooner."

"But sir, there's 17 cars behind you, one of them has spinny rims and the other has a dead deer carcass on the grill. I don't think......."

"ENOUGH! I will expect nothing but perfection from my $4.73 meal!!!! You and EVERYBODY will wait right there. *Inserts three fries, assiduously chews the hot potato goodness, moving them around the tongue so the morsels dance on his delicate papillae, alternating like a boss between salty, bitter, sweet and umami like a truck driver smoothly shifting his 18 gears. He pauses, spits them out of his window and begins barking "GOD DDDDDDDDDDDDAMNNNNNNNNNN IT, Betty! What is this...this...MUSH you've given me? You take these back and you make me a fresh pot of fries that are, IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER: HOT. FRESH. AND MOTHER FORKING CRISPY!"

"O.....Okay sir. I'm really very deeply sorry, if you'll just pull up ahead and...."

"DAMN IT GIRL, I'M NOT MOVING AN INCH UNTIL YOU PERFECT THESE FRIES!"

Exactly. This whole thing is loco. Which is more obnoxious, the ordering or the taste test? If I was working at one of these joints and some dude came in and ordered his fries "hot, fresh & crispy" I'm not sure if i'd laugh or be filled with rage. This makes the guy who returns his breakfast at the end of Fast Times at Ridgemont High look low maintenance. I'm still not buying it though.

In N Out is overrated. It's a good burger but people tend to hype it way more than it deserves. The only thing going for it is that they are cooked fresh to order. Most fast food places with a decent burger (not the 99 cent menu) are almost as good or even just as good when cooked to order (either by accident, BK, MD or by design Jack in the Box, Good Times). The fries also suck. Fresh cut fries are a nice gimmick but a blanched and fried french fry is always better than a fresh cut.

I love In N Out. And there is no denying that, relative to their fast food peers, In N Out's food is fresher and higher quality. That said, fresher and higher quality ingredients don't always taste better necessarily. I'll take a western bacon cheesburger and crisscut fries from Carl's Jr. any day. I don't care if it's a bunch of processed garbage, it is absolutely scrumptious.

Yeah, I have overcome a slight addiction to Jack 'N' The Box's Sourdough Jack. I'm right certain that thing is made from kangaroo meat and whale sperm, but my god, I could devour two at a time in less than 5 minutes. Probably the only fast food burger I've ever had to force myself to stop driving through. Been over a full year. I think I'm owed a coin or a badge or an antenna doll or something.

Co-worker and I presently splitting fries.

Also, bill was still over ten dollars even though I didn't get a drink. Burger was damn good (bacon double with everything), but christ it's impossible to eat there for under 10.

They stole this schtick from 5Gs.

I just spit out my Gold Peak thinking about Keerock sampling his fries at the drive thru window like he's approving of the fine bottle of wine he just ordered at a fancy restaurant.

I have a friend who when he goes to InNout he has to eat it there because he must eat the fries within a minute they come out of the fryer. Sits alone at a table because he has to have them piping hot. I told him this is serial killer behavior. Won't get them to go.

I did yesterday for $9.16, little bacon cheeseburger and a little fry.

I have a friend who when he goes to InNout he has to eat it there because he must eat the fries within a minute they come out of the fryer. Sits alone at a table because he has to have them piping hot. I told him this is serial killer behavior. Won't get them to go.
My cousin has them shove raw potatoes down his throat and then pour boiling oil into his mouth.

Co-worker and I presently splitting fries.

Is the little just one patty instead of two? Seems inefficient to save $1 or whatever to cut out half the protein source. I can go get a 4x2 at In N Out for like 5 bucks.
