Morning all....

Ive been asked to join a flag football league in my area.(it’s actually touch now because of too many fights and a few hand injuries)  After two games it’s really apparent that we need better plays.

Anybody out there play and do you have a playbook you can share with me?

5 vs 6(defense)

5 on 5?

I’m not sure what exactly you’re looking for but try this as a starting point.

They sell a mini nerf football now that has the plays written right on it.  It's only like $8.99 too! HTH.

Lots of runs and reverses and fake reverses. My son's team only passes for some stupid reason and we get blown out every game.

My son also hurt his thumb trying to pull a flag early in the season and the thing still hurts. I might just pull him.

You can’t block so running would be pretty futile. The league we playing has a few professional athletes so there is borderline world-class speed on every team.Even our team has one former professional NFL player and a Maryland lacrosse championship winner.

The teams in my league who run always dominate. Its very hard to pull those flags. Blocking isnt necessary.

EDIT: Scratch that, I thought you were talking little kids LMAO

My buddy plays in a league like this. You’ll need more than just a play book to be good. Audibles for every play and motion on every play. Full game tactics like setting up a deep balls with constant hooks and inside breaking routes until you know the DB is going to bite on a move then go deep. Flooding zones so you catch them cheating. Basic stuff but more than just go out and run around.

The other thing that he said changed their team was they decided their goal was to be the most enjoyable team to play against. They were a top half team to start out with but I believe they’ve been to the finals in back to back years now. They never yell at each other, the other team or refs. They go out of their way to thank and talk to the refs every game. They make lots of jokes between plays with both teams. He was telling me it’s made a huge difference.

We are very similar to this. We don’t have any bad apples and love to have fun. We laugh when we see other teams yelling at each other.

Were starting to run a lot of floods and then switch it up when they go to man. Lol, we just learned yesterday that we can run motion.

Its been a blast. Will be really fun when I’m actually in shape.

I coach a 7 on 7 youth league, but our offense is fairly simple and we can run the ball.  We rely on a lot of reverse action, fake reverses and under routes to get the kids the ball with momentum and just let them make kids miss.

In a passing only league, you need two concepts of plays.  One vs. man and another vs. zone.

Against man coverages you want a lot of crossing routes and get guys running into open space so they can get separation from their defender.  More slants, digs and deep routes.  Few teams will actually play a full man because it is just too difficult to cover guys one on one with as much space and time they have.

Against zone coverages you want a double or triple threat in the same zone, forcing the defenders to pick a receiver and leave the other guys open.  More curls and settling type routes.  I like to attack vertically, so bring a deep threat, a mid-level threat and a shallow threat all to one quadrant of the field.  Most zones will only have 2 defenders for that kind of space and one of the three will be open.

Drawing up flag football plays is actually a blast, IMO.

Bump.

Bueller?
If it’s 5v5, offense should be fairly easy. I played competitive here in South Florida for a number of years. Put your best player at center. Assuming it’s standard rules, the QB is not allowed to run. However, to offset this, we’d put a half-back directly next to the QB, and the center would snap directly to the half-back and the half-back would immediately hand-off to the QB so he could always have a run pass option. After the half-back hands off, he could go out on a route or sit back to be a double-passer.

As far as the center goes, the defense usually puts their worst player on the center, plus the center has the entire sides of the field to work with. In 5v5, there really isn’t a zone scheme that works. The most common defense was man on the single receiver side and zone on the 2 receiver side. This defense can easily be beaten by flooding the man side with players running routes from the zone side. If this is the defense most teams run, have the man side run a lot of deep routes to clear out that entire side of the field. Some good routes on the double receiver side are a seam from the slot man and quick slant underneath from the outside receiver. I could go on forever. Hit me up if you have any particular questions.
