Flying with Jetblue (1 Viewer)

We are thinking of going to Costa Rica and they are 1/2 the price of everyone else. My concern is that every time I fly I need to upgrade to emergency or bulkhead seats because of my height. Anyone have experience with them?

Haven't flown JetBlue in years, but used them regularly back in the '90s, when they first started flights to CA. Did a ton of cross country trips and 30 channels of Directv was a mindblower. They were dirt cheap, on time, and flew into Oakland which was way less prone to delays compared to SFO, not to mention parking and getting in and out were as easy as could be. Was a huge fan and advocate at the time.

Jet blue is great.   You can order seats in the front of the plane for more legroom.  I've found their "regular" coach seats are a little better than the big airlines.

I highly recommend Jet Blue as they are pretty customer friendly.  I'm not sure how they handle food service on international flights, so check into that if you decide to go with them.

They're my preferred airline. They were the last (I believe) to get rid of free checked bags but they're way more about the customer experience than the other big airlines. When it's snack time, they bring out a big variety basket and you can grab as much as you'd like and they are actual name brands instead of "Delta Pretzels".

Use them all the time, don't wait/hope to upgrade.  Just select the seat you want in advance.
Agree with this. It usually doesn't drop in price and you don't want to get stuck with the middle exit row seat or none at all.

I'm sure prices depend on flight distance but the extra charge is reasonable...which I define as "not overly expensive, but just high enough where you won't book it automatically". If it's really half the price of other airlines you'll come out way ahead.

Yep. Jet Blue is great, but their coach seats are as crammed as anyone else.

IME, their standard fare coach seats are upgrades over American, United and Delta both in comfort and leg-room. plus the TV. AND the blue-chips. and their flight attendants aren't raging jagoffs... most of the time.

fwiw- we used to fly Jet Blue to St Maarten once a year (they either stopped that route, or altered it enough to where we couldn't do it). very easy to use for international.

Also, aren't you an NYC guy? Their new terminal at JFK is awesome and they have their own dedicated Customs area for your return.

They're OK. But the planes are old. TV isn't the big deal it used to be. Quality sucks and half the time the control is broken. I actually prefer American, you get TV plus a USB plug so you can have your phone on all flight no worries. Free WiFi like jet blue too. At least on the cross country flights I've been on.
that's all news to me. it's been so long since I gave up on American, that it's kind of good to hear this kind of news. used to be my airline of choice for cross-country flights.

these longer flights? again- IME- it's universally an upgrade.
No, bigger planes flying in/out big cities tend to stuff people in more.  If I go DC to Chicago, I'm stuffed in if I can't get first class.  If I fly to say Cincinnati, same airline, it's a different plane - the chairs are typically configured differed and not designed to maximize every inch of the plane because they're rarely full.

I'll defer to you here, ron- I no longer fly for work, so it's pretty much just 2-4 trips per year for me (CA, St Maarten and DC depending on whether we train it or not).

again though... my experience has been that jetblue's seats are more comfortable than the competitors on those CA and St Maarten flights.

Think you guys are making this more difficult than it needs to be. JetBlue is half the price of other airlines for what he needs. It's probably 60% of the price when he upgrades to a seat with extra leg room. I'm guessing he was making sure he wasn't getting himself into a Spirit/Frontier/ValuJet type situation.

This. Wife and I normally fly American for business and that just carries over to vacation plans normally. I used that kayak service to look for a flight to Costa Rica and the price from Jetblue looked startlingly low which sparked my concern.

Appreciate all the feedback.
