For the love of God, do not elect Hilary Clinton next election. (2 Viewers)

POTUS doesnt matter nearly as much as being able to appoint Supreme Court justices. So dont vote conservative/republican no matter what else you do.
:goodposting:

Scalia and Kennedy are 78. Ginsburg is 81. Breyer is 76.

That's four SC justices who could be replaced in the next 8 years.
This is what I said before the 2012 elections. I didn't, and still don't, think there would be much difference from a governance standpoint between President Obama or a potential President Romney, but I absolutely prefer to have a Democrat nominating the next wave of Supreme Court Justices.
With decisions like Citizens United and McCutcheon it's more important than ever to elect a Democrat. Look at this example of the type of people we have in the majority of the Supreme Court right now:

Justice Clarence Thomas agreed with the outcome of the case, but wrote separately to say that he would have gone further and wiped away all contribution limits.

The faster we can get to elect Democrats, the faster we can move to full blown Socialism! It's much better when the government can make all your decisions for you and take most, if not all, of your money.

Go Hillary!

If the GOP would stop nominating out of touch, ridiculous doosh nozzles, maybe you wouldn't need to start a thread like this.
Well when 95% of the available candidates from either party fall under this category, it is pretty hard to find someone.
False equivalency.
No it's not. You are just a partisan shill for the left. Career politicians are hacks who sell their votes out to the highest bidder. I feel bad for you that you trust in this class of whores.
No, Im hater of the current American brand of conservativism. And anti anything that touches it.

I can only pray that I make as much money under Hillary as I've had on Obama. Its been a really good 5 years.

Guys, we screwed up bringing Barack into Office.
I agree with this, although I think we screwed up less than we would have if we'd brought McCain or Romney into office.

I'm not sure what that has to do with Hillary, though. Obama's biggest victory was over Hillary, not McCain.

And this has been said every year for the past fifty years.

My favorite Firing Line with Bill Buckley comes from 1964. "Is the American Right Too Extreme?" or something like that. It's hilarious. It's the same argument, every time, by partisan lefty shills (I am not indicting you as a shill, BST, it's just the same argument every year).

Anyone remember Daisy?

eta* Also, the eulogies for William F. Buckley, Jr. were almost hilarious, considering everything that was said during his life. The only "good" conservative is a dead conservative, or one that existed fifty to a hundred years ago, at least as far as the left is concerned.

The definitions change over time, though. Barry Goldwater would be called a partisan lefty shill today.

Read the 1968 Republican Platform and tell me it's anything like today's Republican Party.

Millions of our people are suffering cruelly from expanding metropolitan blight—congestion, crime, polluted air and water, poor housing, inadequate educational, economic and recreational opportunities. This continuing decay of urban centers—the deepening misery and limited opportunity of citizens living there—is intolerable in America. We promise effective, sustainable action enlisting new energies by the private sector and by governments at all levels.
New technological and administrative approaches through flexible federal programs enabling and encouraging communities to solve their own problems;
Air and water pollution, already acute in many areas, require vigorous state and federal action, regional planning, and maximum cooperation among neighboring cities, counties and states. We will encourage this planning and cooperation and also spur industrial participation by means of economic incentives.
Our metropolitan transportation systems—the lifelines of our cities—have become tangled webs of congestion which not only create vast citizen inconvenience, discontent and economic inefficiency, but also tend to barricade inner city people against job opportunities in suburban areas. We will encourage priority attention by private enterprise and all levels of government to sound planning and the rapid development of improved mass transportation systems, Additionally, in the location of federal buildings and installations and the awarding of federal contracts, account will be taken of such factors as traffic congestion, housing, and the effect on community development.
EducationThe birthplace of American opportunity has been in the classrooms of our schools and colleges. From early childhood through the college years, American schools must offer programs of education sufficiently flexible to meet the needs of all Americans—the advantaged, the average, the disadvantaged and the handicapped alike. To help our educators meet this need we will establish a National Commission to Study the Quality and Relevance of American Education.

To treat the special problems of children from impoverished families, we advocate expanded, better programs for pre-school children. We will encourage state, local or private programs of teacher training. The development and increased use of better teaching methods and modern instruction techniques such as educational television and voluntary bilingual education will continue to have our support.

To help assure excellence and equality of educational opportunity, we will urge the states to present plans for federal assistance which would include state distribution of such aid to non-public school children and include non-public school representatives in the planning process. Where state conditions prevent use of funds for non-public school children, a public agency should he designated to administer federal funds.

Greater vocational education in high school and post-high school years is required for a new technological and service-oriented economy. Young people need expansion of post high school technical institutes to enable them to acquire satisfactory skills for meaningful employment. For youths unable to obtain such training, we propose an industry youth program, coupled with a flexible approach to minimum wage laws for young entry-level workers during their training periods.

The rapidly mounting enrollments and costs of colleges and universities deprive many qualified young people of the opportunity to obtain a quality college education. To help colleges and universities provide this opportunity, we favor grant and loan programs for expansion of their facilities. We will also support a flexible student aid program of grants, loans and work opportunities, provided by federal and state governments and private organizations. We continue to favor tax credits for those burdened with the costs of higher education, and also tax deductions to encourage savings for this purpose. No young American should be denied a quality education because he cannot afford it or find work to meet its costs.

Goldwater did shift a bit. My point is, the right is always painted, from 1960-present, as "extreme," and generally "uneducated," which is sometimes true, sometimes not. Just like the left.

Wow. Eight years of Hillary takes you out almost 11 years. You might well have Roberts, Alito, Thomas and six fairly reliable center-left justices on the court.
this thread just convinced me to vote for Hillary. Thanks!
chest bump bro, you sure told those clowns
yah broham.

To cstu:

Yeah, that's the R platform. What would NR and the conservatives say about that back in '68? You can't just pick the R platform and say it is conservative. It's a Republican platform after the conservatives got their ### kicked in '64.

It looked like you had to pull Buckley's teeth to get him to support Nixon and his administrative agencies. But, he felt, it was better than the alternative of Humphrey from Minnesota and McGovern.

Sometimes you pick the lesser of two evils and bow to the electorate to get elected.

But, don't forget -- that '64 election set up Reagan to come to dominant prominence.

I personally think we need a Goldwater-ite to run in '16, and I've said it before here. But a smart one.

I'll tell you what though, if it was Hillary vs. Sarah Palin, I'm going Hillary.
just as the media trained you to
Dude, seriously. You are really hurting your cause, here.

Palin has shown how little she actually has to offer. In terms of pure competence and ability to project America in a strong fashion on the world stage (granted, unlike Obama to a degree), it's Hillary by, well, a billion. Palin's honestly become a caricature of herself, a joke. To not even recognize that, imo, hurts a lot of credibility.

Perhaps you will discount my perspective, but i really don't believe it's all that uncommon between people somewhere in the middle / not aligned well left or right, politically.

Holy SHYTE! People still consider Palin to have presidential potential? That would almost be funny if it weren't so sad. I hope the Repubs do back her. Total whack job and even conservatives know that.

I wonder how much McCain regrets that pick.

Obviously she's a one-woman clown show today and makes him look hopelessly unqualified in hindsight, but at the time no one knew anything about her so maybe it wasn't a bad play. When you're down 7 with :02 on the clock you throw it deep and hope for the best.

I suppose that's convenient.

At the least, it appears to be the easy way out.

As I said before, whatever works for you.

Yeah, McCain didn't stand a chance but the Palin choice turned it into a blowout. No one thought that a democratic could win by such a wide margin.

Obama has been a great president. This thread is dumb. We should be so lucky to have 8 more years of this prosperity and freedom.

Stock markets have been on fire, indices setting records.

Unemployment has dropped.

Weed is legal!

Gays can marry!

Bin Laden is dead!

Iraq war is over!

All Americans will have access to healthcare!

Religious fundies have very little power and have been drowned out finally.

Seriously, Obama has been awesome. It eats the right up how successful he has been. Black man did it...kills them. #scoreboard

What confounds me is how people bring her up now, with all we do know ( namely, how much an unqualified, lightweight, small minded and apparently just not that bright person she is) as if they will help their argument. It's literally, laughable.

My point is that it's a reasonable platform. There are still some conservative ideas (free market principles, providing better incentives in welfare) but also has some common sense ideas about education and the environment.

AA Republican Party will reasonable ideas like that would stand a chance of winning today, just as it did in '68.

I'd pay great money to see Bristol Palin take on Chelsea Clinton in celebrity Jeopardy.

I wasn't using hyperbole when I said laughable.

Much as I can't stand Obama on a number of issues, when you see that I suppose there is some degree of props to be given. If only he didn't give 1984 a huge push while risking an election for poor tactics re healthcare implementation.

Oh and you can play poker for money again online in three states! Thanks Obama! Republicans say they are the party of freedom but they took the freedom to play poker away. Under Obama, it is back, baby!

Can you guys imagine what O's accomplishments could've been had he not had the opposition party fighting him at every turn?

And they had the audacity to ear mark it onto home security legislation. Way to keep us safe republicans.

The party shifted. Goldwater didn't.

Nixon was the most dishonest individual I have ever met in my life. He lied to his wife, his family, his friends, his colleagues in the Congress, lifetime members of his own political party, the American people and the world.
I think every good Christian ought to kick Falwell right in the ###.
I am frankly sick and tired of the political preachers telling me as a citizen that if I want to be a moral person, I must believe in A, B, C, and D. Just who do they think they are? And from where do they presume to claim the right to dictate their moral beliefs to me?
Mark my word, if and when these preachers get control of the [Republican] party, and they're sure trying to do so, it's going to be a terrible damn problem. Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise. I know, I've tried to deal with them.
All said by Barry Goldwater.

You better tell the internet about the Iraq war, though. Google AND Bing say it ended in 2011.

No doubt in my mind that McCain would have been a crappy President...almost as bad as Obama....

I honestly don't get people who think Obama is such a horrible President. At worst he's been mediocre, and best he's been above average. He certainly hasnt been terrible in any way that I can see. I'm not a fan of his economic philiosophy, but what has he done that's been a complete catastrophe?

The fact that there are peopel who believe what you posted shows how little people pay attention to what's actually happening.
