this almost exact same thing happened to me on my bike around the corner from my pad on my way to a tri workout a month before my wedding.

replace cement truck with a 1970s F150.pickup driver thought she'd killed me- saw the door open and hit me, throwing me (somersaulting) over my handlebars into her path. she ran over my bike, tires exploding, and felt it... thinking it was me. the corner of the door impaled my shoulder, the sudden stop (I was probably going 20+/-) when hitting the door gave me a terrible concussion, and the rest of me was pretty messed up. plus, my fancy titanium tri-bike was flattened. eta: the driver missed running me over by inches- thankfully she was a good driver paying attention with great reflexes... most of the NYC drivers- I'd be dead.

getting doored ****ing SUCKS. ALWAYS look towards oncoming traffic before opening your car door please.
