Free Agent RB's that are left - are they done? (1 Viewer)

Ahmad Bradshaw

Beanie Wells

Cedric Benson

Felix Jones

Mike Turner

lots of decent RBs with decent track records out there. When will they sign? Where will they land?

Possible spots post draft that need a RB?

Indy, STL, Jax (back up to MJD), Oakland?

All of these guys are pretty much waiting for camp injuries at this point. Bradshaw could get signed earlier when he is full-go, but GB and PIT spent a lot of capital on RB in the draft...

Indy is probably the most intriguing of those you listed because of the relative paucity of RB talent on the roster. Jax signed Forsett and Oak Jennings, so if they start kicking the tires on these guys, could be a sign that they don't love what they're seeing.. I think St. Louis might look at Turner or Benson if they aren't liking Ganaway's development.

Don't forget that DeAngelo Williams could easily be added to this list very soon, and there's ton of good running backs that will get cut before the season starts. RB is a young man's position...

Jacksonville signed Forsett as the apparent backup, so I don't know that they'd be looking necessarily.

I don't see Cedric or Felix really landing anywhere. Turner could still end up stealing touchdowns someplace next season, but he's probably done.

Bradshaw and Beanie are probably the only two that have a shot. Both are young, have had success in their past, and Bradshaw at least is a good pass blocker so someone could grab him as a third down back. It'll really depend if they look like they've healed at all.

I think every single one of them get NFL jobs next year at one point of another. Bradshaw is far and away the best of the group to me and IMO better than what a few teams have at starter.

Felix is still intriguing in the right role as a COP back but he badly needs a change of scenery. He can't win for losing in Dallas, While Demarco was out last year Felix was trudging along with a list of ailments but still getting pounded daily by the local masses as being soft. He simply can not be an every down back. He's got the build for it but it's just not him and when if he's put in that role again he'll likely fail. But he's become an adept pass blocker and I still think a very dangerous player so long as you limit his usage. Could see a lot of teams with use for a player like that as third down COP back but if they ever trick themselves into thinking he's more than that he'll likely let them down.

For all I know Beannie can't pass a physical but if/when he can I see him landing a job.

Turner is the shakiest of the group and he's the one I'd bet on if I had to say which one never plays a down again. I'll predict he won't sign with a team until in-season injuries hit and this might be good for him actually. Extended rest and coming in fresh later in the year after defenses have had a little wear and tear might work out well for him.

I think Felix and Bradshaw sign prior to camp. The other 3 might have to wait until camp or in-season.

Trying to guess where seems like an exercise in futility but just can't see Indy and JAX not adding a RB. Dallas as well unless Randle shows really well early on and I'm guessing St. Louis wants to see what they have if Stacy can fit their power back role and I see them grabbing one of these guys. That's one of the few teams that I think Bradshaw is better than any RB on their roster.

I think felix Jones could end up back in Dallas on the cheap
Maybe so. He also seems like he'd be a nice complement to Ballard in Indy. Pretty sure he'll eventually land somewhere but not too many roles left out there.

I think Benson and Turner are done done. Especially Turner.

Wells and Bradshaw should still land somewhere if they can get healthy. Which is apparently not a given for either guy.

I think Turner and Benson are probably both just done. Bradshaw can play; the fact that he hasn't been signed leaves me to conclude that he just can't pass a physical (yet?). I've never been a Wells fan and pretty much think he's soft and sucks, but he's young enough and has the pedigree to probably get another chance, but I'm guessing he also can't pass a physical (yet?).

I'm most surprised by the lack of interest in Felix Jones. He's definitely not featured RB material, but he's actually been hugely productive when used as a COP player. I think some team is going to get a great 3rd down RB on the cheap provided they hold him under about 100 total touches (rushing / receiving / returns).

I just realized I had every one of thee guys on the same fantasy team three years ago.

I sold them all, thinking they were all getting run down or were injury risks.

That was a while ago and I don't think any of their situations have improved.

Based on age, I guess beanie probably has the best combination of opportunity

Agree on Turner. Benson looked better than his YPC last year. He was by far the best back the Packers had started in a while. Having said that, how much another year, and a season ending injury takes for his game is very much Tbd.

. RB is a young man's position...
This pretty much sums it up IMO, and the fact that it's pretty much the most replaceable position in the game.

When teams can stack up on RBs in the rookie draft - often late giving good value - that leaves little room for aging veterans. And guys like Turner, Benson and Hillis, who have had big, Pro Bowl seasons, might have inflated views of their value given their pedigrees. That all will likely change as we head towards camp with injuries, cut downs and the like. Wells strikes me as the most surprising given his youth, so there must be more to his injury than reported.

I've always believed in Beanie's talent, but have also always found him to be overrated due to my perception that he is injury prone and my general disdain for the Arizona situation (that was particularly unpopular right after Warner retired and everyone was convinced the Cards were going to run the ball 500 times  ). But opinion has swayed so much that I think he'll be incredible value if healthy in training camp and in a good situation. If he signs a one year deal somewhere, I'll be keeping an eye on his ADP. You always have to be ready for a guy to swing from overrated to underrated. The FF community is fickle.

I really thin k they are gonna give Ballard a shot in Indy. They did some work on the line and Luck has another year under his belt as well as Ballard. I have read a few articles where the coach has said he loves Ballard, so I decided to buy on him in a few leagues. They may get a cop since Brown is just a turd, and they have zero depth, so they need someone. But like Sig said, its a young mans position and Ballard is young.

I can see Benson or Bradshaw in Indy maybe, but they will not spend much to upgrade there when they can draft one next year if Ballard does not work out.

,,,anyone have any news on Chris Rainey? Was released by the Steelers early in 2013 after being arrested for his involvement in a domestic violence situation with his girlfriend. Apparently he had prior issues with that sort of stuff in college, and the Steelers weren't going to stand for it. I don't know the details, and I don't condone behavior of that sort in any way, but for the purposes of FF, I am enamored with RB's who have speed to burn, and Rainey definitely has that, and then some...after he gets some help dealing with whatever relationship issues he has, I'd can't imagine several teams giving him an opportunity. Speed like that can't be taught, and is very rare.

None of them are completely done. Look at Benson last year. He was signed after the seasons started, wasn't he? Or like a week or two before. Cap issues are usually the problem. Those guys want guaranteed money and possibly for multiple seasons. I would think they are the hold up and not the teams interested. Bradshaw, for instance, is probably looking for a few million this year. If he wanted to come back for the league minimum I have to believe he would have a team already.

Beanie is only 24 years old. Suprised he hasn't signed somewhere. You'd have to think he could beat out somebody's third guy somewhere.

I think Tuner is the next threat to ruin someones value. STL seems reasonable. Not sure why you would go into the season with Pead/Richardson/Stacy when you have a playoff caliber team.

Link? No way this team wins the division. Wildcards are going to be Seattle or San Fran and there are at least 4 teams that are better than St. Louis. Washington, Chicago, Dallas, and New Orleans.

You lost me after Washington. I think they have a good young team that improved through the draft, that's all. The had the best div record last season.

At this point you have no idea who will win the division. Injuries, luck etc...all factor in during the season and the fact of the matter is the rams have a team that can compete and keep games close. Its not unimaginable that a couple of lucky bounces a colin kaepernick injury and they are easily a wild card team.

McGahee could be this year's more productive Benson (hopefully without the injury). McGahee has averaged much better numbers than Benson when he's been on the field the past two years.

Benson wasn't signed until a week or two before the season when the Packers had an injury happen to someone. McGahee could step in after an injury and lead a team in carries and goal-line opportunities. He's an early-down back only at this point, though.
