What was the resolution?

I thought Elisa was a girl with a history of suicidal ideation and all the evidence pointed towards suicide?  I did not watch the Netflix doc but I figured they were simply capitalizing on people's enjoyment of conspiracy.

On the other hand, people with a history of psychiatric treatment and suicidal ideation are susceptible to being murdered and it being believed that they killed themselves.
Spoiler alert ***accidental drowning was the official cause of death with bipolar contributing***. There were internet sleuths with huge followings investigating her disappearance before and after she was found. The hotel was by skid row in LA, and had lots of sketchy guests. The video of her odd behavior by the elevator, posted by detectives to get leads, sparked the sleuthing.

Internet sleuths have solved crimes, and led to the incrimination of innocent people including in the Elisa Lam case.

Following along with reddit, they think instagram accidentally deleted the real account as many people were making fake accounts with bogus info.  It's now restored but looks different in ways I don't follow.

So the thought the boyfriend deleted the account seems not true for the moment.

Nothing super new here.
first hand account from the police saying the guy isn't cooperating at all... that seems new, to me at least. I generally am not taking the NYPost at face value. I was still hoping he'd just lawyered up and was being cautious with his interactions... that makes it pretty clear he's just not interacting at all.

@WOZZOW! how does that fit the signs of an innocent person being cautious.

@Zow too

eta: this is starting to close some conjecture/guessing doors on his innocence for me.

Somebody on Reddit mentioned autism with Brian....saw that yesterday.  Guessing bipolar, depression, anxiety or something in that redaction.

It is interesting in the reddit comments - despite all of the evidence from the police statements indicating that Gabby was the one assaulting Brian in Moab - seem to be stuck on the idea that she was the victim there, and the police should have gotten her a room, and not Brian.

Interesting that the domestic disturbance call was actually HER hitting HIM.

Wondering if perhaps she ran off and killed herself somewhere and he has no idea what happened to her but is not speaking due to his lawyers advice.

She owned the van.  Seems to have played a role here.

Any details emerge regarding their background?

Such as:

How did they meet?

Did they go to college?

What jobs have they held?

Any criminal history?

Drug use?

Gotcha.  One article I read said she was 22 and he was 23 so I don't think he was a whole lot older, like people earlier thought.

Just wondering if they worked, lived off mommy/daddy, etc.

With them indicating that there was a mental health crisis situation possibly, that definitely opens up a whole lot more possibilities. Maybe she is bipolar and in a manic state. If he is autistic or has anxiety issues, I could see him reacting to a lot of potential situations by shutting down and just going home. Maybe she was manic and did something super risky and died and he shut down. Or maybe she just took off and he can’t process and just went home. Or maybe she went off with someone else and he can’t cope and just gave up and went home.

I will say that I think the odds of her being alive are higher than what I had thought. I still think they’re low, but if she is having a mental health crisis, it would make more sense that she is alive but not responding to family than if she was of sound mind.

I find it difficult to fathom that she would leave him - given her purported fear of him leaving her with the van. The van was in her name - so I’d be more likely to believe that she took off in the van than the other way around.

But, I can still see two plausible scenarios: accidental death, he freaks out, drives back to Florida. Or, he did just leave her somewhere and he has no idea if she is dead or alive.

No way was I watching a full hour of that but the girl definitely isn't in a good place mentally.

Very possible she committed suicide
Yeah - I didn't watch the whole thing, just some snippets.

She does seem very very off mentally. Her jumping off a cliff would not surprise me based on her mental state.

However, some of the reddit comments really push that this is classic controlling/narcissistic behavior from him and she is representing someone who is in a mentally abusive relationship.

So I dunno. Hope she is ok, but I'm seriously doubting it.

the argument started over her ocd, she flipped when he got in the van with dirty feet. that and the stress from creating a blogging website set her off.

Can't watch now but see it's over an hour long...

What's the takeaway? Was she acting nuts?

Pure speculation....maybe she got pregnant and it set him off.
My takeaway is the guy was completely calm the whole time and she was the one with issues.

Im also 100% sure this is not the first time she flipped out on him for something so miniscule.

So if a guy slapped a girl would the officers have let him go?
i guess if the guy weighed 110 lbs and the girl was 150   at least that was the cops logic around the 58 minute mark was that she couldn’t hurt the guy. interestingly enough they shut the audio down right after that while they talked it out

Looks like they were looking for every excuse not to charge her at one point the cop even said "it doesnt sound like she was trying to injure him to me"

I sort of follow a few of these lifer youtuber types.  Some are super interesting.  Taking that from a lifestyle to a job is nearly impossible now.  Youtube is saturated with content now, and the early people on the scene have taken up a huge amount of market share and the algorithms are against you.

Youtube 5 years ago was paying far more for 1000 impressions.  Now, you have to get paid on patreon or onlyfans or thru merch sales.  As 1000 impressions might get you pennies.  Depending on your audience makeup and clickthrus.

The pressure on new creators to monetize is really tough, and the flameout rate is like 85%.  Often with tons of debt.

She certainly had the goods looks wise.  That's at least half the battle.  There are no ugly lifers with income streams.

Most of the those redditors are clueless and reflexively blame males and idolize females.  I was rash in my own judgment of the situation.  Still a good chance he killed her but also reasonably possible that it's a publicity stunt, suicide, or something else.  I enjoy mysteries but this case certainly doesn't warrant all this attention.

Ryan and his family would like to disagree with you.

I didn't watch the full, hour, it was pretty easy to see the wheels were completely off there.
I just watched the entire police cam video and I wouldn't immediately say she was mentally ill. A long road trip stresses most people out. Add to the mix that are getting pulled over and that they are "youngins" (who are probably more prone to explosive/immature fights)....it's a tough call.

Regardless, she's still the one missing and he needs to come clean.

Maybe. It reminds me of the Netflix documentary, Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel. There were sleuths all over the Internet studying hotel security video and Elisa Lam's social media posts. It took 18 days for a resolution.
What new is now known about the Elisa Lam case other than where they found the body? Thought there was to this day a ton of mystery around what all was going on. Has there been some recent-ish breakthroughs over the last two or three years?

EDIT: Never mind -- I skipped over a bunch of posts. Sounds like it's all just stuck on "She was bipolar, and that made 'stuff happen'". There probably will never be a linear, logical, step-by-step explanation of what happened to Lam and why it happened.

You went from 98% certain the dude was guilty (without any real evidence) to now a good chance (still without much evidence).  If the girl has serious mental issues that's an even bigger reason for this guy to be careful about what he says or does.  Mentally ill people are statistically more likely to be the victim of violence.  Hell, it's possible this guy is fearful for his own life if she's still alive (made up scenario but plausible, IMO).

Yea, I agree that 98% may have been too much and I'm still at like 80%.  In light of the limited evidence offered by that body cam video, voluntary disappearance or publicity stunt seems more likely than I originally figured.  Makes sense for mentally ill people to experience more violence because they attract other mentally ill people.

I laughed at the reddit characterization of these two.  The girl is a free spirit who lights up every room while the dude is a glom with no friends.  I figured both of them were half-baked losers.  They wouldn't have been able to put up with each other if it weren't so.

Reddit was trying to tie the dude to the murder of a lesbian couple which occurred the night after his domestic incident.  The lesbians had told others that if they were murdered, it would be by a "creepy guy" who had been hanging around the camp.  That case sounds a lot more interesting.  I wish the media started digging into that one.

the media did latch on to that one... and IIRC, one of the women was a pretty young white woman.

it's crazy that their murders happened while the couple was there... pretty astonishing coincidence really.
