PFF preview of the 2016 Denver Broncos:

Even with some key losses, this D-line unit is elite

Front-seven1st

In spite of the losses of Danny Trevathan and Malik Jackson, the Broncos are still well placed at every spot in the front seven to bring the pain to opposing offenses. A quartet of edge rushers led by Super Bowl MVP Von Miller returns to terrorize offensive lines on the fringes while Derek Wolfe’s terrific season after he returned from suspension ensures that teams cannot leave the middle open to try and contain those edge rushers. Sylvester Williams’ stout play anchors the Broncos’ run defense in base packages and the underrated Vance Walker only serves to shore up Denver’s run defense as they look to replace Malik Jackson. In spite of the loss of Trevathan, the Broncos still possess the well-rounded skill set of Brandon Marshall at linebacker, equally adept stepping up to makes stops against the run as well as dropping back to clog passing lanes for opposing quarterbacks. The Broncos’ front seven may have lost two key contributors but they are well placed to remain among the league’s elite.

The league’s best secondary returns intact

Secondary1st

The only risk to the “No Fly Zone” this off-season has been Aqib Talib’s shooting incident in Dallas back at the start of June. Barring any repercussions of a disciplinary nature stemming from that incident, the Broncos will return with the league’s best secondary intact from last year’s Super Bowl run. At corner their three-deep run of Talib, Chris Harris and Bradley Roby is the league’s best from 1 to 3, with Roby’s marked improvement in his second season masked to some extent by the fact that he has little chance of unseating Talib and Harris as starters. Feasting on passing attacks that are harassed by the likes of Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware, the Broncos are equally adept at making plays on the ball as they are completely locking down opposing passing attacks as they did ruthlessly against the Packers in Week 8 last season. Though their safeties may not be at quite the same level as their corners, Darian Stewart and T.J. Ward is still one of the better safety pairings in the league with Stewart’s play last season a revelation. With intriguing rookies like Justin Simmons and Will Parks to potentially add to the mix, the Broncos are well placed to retain their crown as the league’s best secondary in 2016.

I'm actually expecting a pretty good game from DT. I think Siemian will get him the ball against those rookie corners. I say 6 catches, 110, and a TD. I think Anderson is bottled up, and Sanders goes 4 for 60. Cam throws two TD's, one to Benjamin and one to Ginn. Stewart goes for 80 total yards. Denver wins 23-20.

Just curious - does anyone have any actual observations of Siemian?

What to expect tonight?

Carolina starts 2 rookie CBs IIRC, but otherwise against a great defense up front and a revenge minded team this really seems like a tough way to open one's pro career. He's at home, I'll give him that.

Denver wins at home in front of a crazy crowd 20-13.

My breakout star for Denver will be Booker. The rookie RB goes for 50 yards and a TD.

Worley and Bradberry are listed as the starters on the Panthers website. Both are rookies.

24-17 Carolina as Denver turns it over in a two-minute drill. Cam kneels. Newton throws two and runs one in. Olsen and Funchess get the scores. Anderson and Booker both get the rushing TD's.

Are Carolina's rookie corners any good?

look for DT to make them really miss Josh Norman....

A good point from Alfred Williams yesterday on the Fan - in SB without Benjamin it allowed Talib to cover Olsen - this game Talib will most likely get Benjamin and it forces a safety or LB to cover Olsen. That was an excellent point.

Broncos LB's on TEs have been a real weakness for years. I'm sure Wade will dial up some crazy stuff to counter this but I'm ready for some trouble.

Thankfully the CBs at Carolina are rookies - so I see a lot of roll outs to the 3 - Green, DT and Sanders - I think Denver goes against type and we get a good old shootout.

For some odd reason I keep envisioning him pulling a Kurt Warner and throwing 3 TD's in his first game.

I am NOT predicting this. Just something that rolls through my brain every now and then.
Heh, I've had the same thoughts. He was a pretty terrible college QB and by all accounts shouldn't be a starting NFL QB... but what if he really is?

It depends on how ready/good he is. He beat out Butt Fumble and Skinny Colonel Sanders so, he has that going for him which is nice.

Actually though, it does seem like it takes NFL defenses a bit to really key in on QBs. Their could be an element of surprise/mystery.

For what it is worth, on "Inside the NFL" this week, Brandon Marshall said he was pretty impressed watching Siemian throwing in person on the field at the Super Bowl before the game. Maybe Elway knows something we don't.

Rolling with DT and Benjamin tonight in separate leagues. Dont love either, but I at least suspect DT will get a handful of short catches to bump his PPR numbers. Kelvin im a little more suspect on expectations, but if its a close game I dont see them keeping him off the field for his "snap count". Id be ok with 6/70 I guess and Im sure he will be on the field in the red zone.
