It's slow because "knightly" fighting with those giant swords is pretty damn slow.

:shrug: we have seen other sword fights in this series that didn't seem this slow and telegraphed. Maybe I just built the scene up in my mind too much, but it felt flat to me.
 
just finished, i thought i remembered everything from the prior Seasons, but i am forgetting peoples names :lol:

I am looking at some of the episode reviews/recaps on the net (I always need to check out when there are new characters to catch their names and how to spell them). It is unanimous that this episode was slow and not as good as the premiere. Odd, because I felt the total opposite. I loved this episode.

Some flashbacks would be great, but that's not a device that's been used in this show, so I doubt we'll get to see what Jaime did to Tyrion years ago.

 
The guy playing the Hound is also doing an awesome job, glad to see him return. I think his

line is my favorite piece of dialog from the show so far.

I don't expect it. Also, I don't even really want to see Jaime harrassing Tyrion. I want to see them out for the night boozing and messing with other people.

No way... really? That was one of my favorite parts of the book and I think they totally delivered on the show. The transition of Jaime from cocky (and high just from having a sword in his hand again), feinting to check out her footwork, to "oh ####, I'm in trouble" when he lunged and just bounced off her, was awesome and the choreography was real good on the sword play... not sure what more you could've wanted from that (aside from him calling her "wench" more)... it was pretty epic.

Agreed. I liked both but liked the second episode much better.

Hopefully he lives long enough for Bran/Hodor to chuck him out a window.

Well I didn't know, but it just didn't feel like it was right for either character to go down. Both have so much more that they can accomplish within the story. As for Ned, the only reason we thought he would escape was because "that is what is supposed to happen" in these epic tales. If you look at the facts of the story, Ned was a clear dead man.

ETA: Also, it didn't really benefit either person to kill the other. If Kingslayer dies, Brienne has totally failed her mission (as he pointed out). If Kinglsayer kills her, he is now all alone in the middle of the kingdom. He is better off with Brienne because she has his back in case they stumble onto some trouble. She is taking him to Kings Landing, it's not like she is marching him to wall or anything. She is trying to free him. The fight was a pissing contest and a way for Lannister to entertain himself.

Brienne difinitely wouldn't kill him. Obviously, she had chances to and didn't.

Jamie definitely would have...you see her as a protector, he sees her as captor. He'd be fine on his own.

 
Also, I was pretty disappoionted in this episode and was surprised how much everyone loved it.

Lots of character development but the story didn't move forward much at all. Not that it's a bad thing but I'm really used to getting both in the same hour. Apparently I'm just spoiled.

 
Do you think Margaery Tyrell (during the crossbow talk scene) hit a nerve with Joffrey when she talked about how her last husband butt sexed her?

I think he has to consider the perversion angle if his own existence. I don't see anything so far to suggest he may have any gay leanings. He's turned on by pai and power. I can see him be interested in doing it to women to hurt then, but so far he's shown very little actual intercourse related sexual preferences. His threesome became a voyeuristic display of power and pain, he's repeatedly gone on about his endless power over women, even mommy dearest, and the only thing that's even made him interested in a woman is when margaery played him completely like a fiddle in the crossbow scene. The more I see it, the more I think it's one if the best scenes so far in the series and paints the Tyrell women as some of the best schemers in the entire show.

Agree this might have been the best scene of the episode. I'm surprised more people aren't talking about it.

Man I couldn't disagree more. I can't stand the guy playing Sandor. He's so boring. 'Book Sandor' had an acidic personality and was just sarcastic and dark as hell. 'TV Sandor' is a giant dullard.

He's really the only character that I think totally misses the mark.

I generally like Osha, except with how she crouches down and walks funny, like a hunchback.

The Hound just seems to lack focus. There isn't time to develop him more, and it's hurt the character. The Sansa/Hound stuff just didn't ring true or how it should have really.

Oh give me a damn break. All I said was the casting for Sandor Clegane wasn't good. Take a look at all the book discussion happening on the previous page. On a scale of 1-10 what I posed is a 1.

 
I'll delete my Sandor casting post if everyone else deletes their follow on posts. Will that make everyone happy?

Be curious on people's favorite and least favorite story lines/characters in the show are.

Currently in the show I could do without:

Ygrette - I like to look at her, but she is lame

Sam Tarley - character hasn't done anything but whine cry

Shae - Tyrion needs something better than this. the scene with those two in this episode might have been one of the worst in the series so far

Dany - really dug her in season 1, but not so much anymore.

Bran - not a huge fan of where this plot is going

Can't get enough of:

Tyrion - who doesn't love it every time he is on screen (unless with Shae, I guess)

Littlefinger - love this weaselly character and am really interested to see what his end game is

Margery - seems to be a couple steps ahead of everybody

Sansa - of the kid actors, I think she is putting on a show between this season and last

Theon - really loved his arc last season, but seems to be a side plot this season

More Margery, Robb, Bran's new friend, Tyrion, Arya, Tywin, Joeffrey, Tyrion's bodyguard, Jamie, Sansa.

Less Dany, Stannis (used to be interested but not now that's he's crazy), Jon Snow

 
Btw, what ever happened to the bald ####less monk-looking guy? Seems like he hasn't been on the show in forever.
