Game of Thrones on HBO: non-book thread (2 Viewers)

Who is the one eyed guy in the caves who is going to fight the Hound? I thought the Hound knew him and used his name but I didn't catch it.
berric dondarrion. In season 1 Ned Stark sends him and a group out to hunt down the Mountain nad bring him to justice
Were we supposed to remember that? Man, this show expects a lot out of us sometimes ;)
Not only did he not have an eye patch but according to wiki they had a different actor playing him in season 1. In other words, I dont think his reappearance was supposed to be some big reveal.

well he told the hound that right when they sentenced him to trial by combat.

If you remember, some Riverlands people cam to Ned when he was hand of the king, and emptied a bag full of fish and complained that the mountain was running rough shot over the land, and he sent out barric and his boys to bring the mountain to justice

- so now Dany has dragons and a sick army. what's her next move? she can't just head straight to King's Landing, can she? what about making a move on Dragonstone to reclaim it for her family?
She'll need an armada.
yeah, she'll obviously need some ships...doesn't she only have 1? but her army was definitely marching somewhere with a purpose. which brings me to another question... with 80K bad### soldiers and dragons, doesn't she basically just run that city now? why not just stay there as a base of operations instead of heading out on foot again?

IIRC, its only 8k not 80k. not enough to invade westeros IMO heck these stark & lannister battles have around 20k or so

Didn't Jorah say she would need to be in a position of power to recruit more Dothrakis? An army of 8K with 3 dragons is a good start to displaying that power.

The same Dothrakis that 'effed her over? Forget that, burn 'em.

Gotta give the actors who play Theon and Jamie some credit. They did smarmy and arrogant very well.......and they're doing repentive, broken and beaten just as well. Who'd have thunk that two biggest pricks from S2 would invoke such pity.

Sorry. Last night was great too by how Joffery was waving....it looked like he didn't know what his hand was doing when he was waving at the commoners.

My one fear is that Margery turns Joffery into a likeable character. I don't think it will happen though.

I think their relationship and motives was summed up with Cersi and the Grandmothers conversation....where Cersi realized that Margaery (and I guess by extension the Tyrells) were playing Joffery.

Margery's not likable either. She hasn't done a single thing that had an ounce of honesty or integrity.

Just imagine if the Starks had half the cunning and desire to play the Game as the Tyrells where they would be.

For the first time all series, I believe Dany is a legit threat instead of a hapless wanderer. That whole scene was very well done.
The scene when she comes out of the fire was pretty awseome as well. But yeah, like seeing her be a badass.
The scene that ended Season 1 was a tease to what she could be. Season 2, let's face it, sucked for Dany.
All that seemingly pointless and boring meandering through the desert and meeting with strange magic monk dudes last season was leading to that moment last night when she issues the dracarys command. She's had some terrible lines and painfully cheesy scenes to do over the past two years, but she does really rise to the occasion when the writers give her something good to work with.

Maybe, but she didn't take an interest in helping her until the prospect of Littlefinger gaining Stark lands came up. She's willing to let Sansa go into a loveless marriage with a gay guy? It's possible but I don't see Margaery doing anything until/unless it helps her family. She's playing Sansa just like Joffrey.

Liking someone and manipulating them aren't mutually exclusive in this story (eg, Ned stark's relationship with every character).

Nor are they inclusive. She could be doing both, but I don't buy it.

She's got an Air Force and ground troops but she still needs a navy. Maybe a trip back to Quarth to seize that one trader's fleet?

Maybe the show isn't conveying it... but Sansa is madly in love with Sir Lorras

The issue isn't with Sansa here.

They kind of covered it when he came to get her and she told him about the rose after the tournament.

Guess she is going to be disappointed....

It did before she got betrothed to Joffrey (and again when Loras took her to meet his grandma), but that doesn't mean anything because Lora's is gay. Margaery knows she does most likely (since most women are in love with Loras anyway) and, similar to her appealing to Jiffrey's dark side, she is appealing to what Sansa wants in order to get what the Tyrell's want. Everything she does is calculated and manipulative.

She's willing to let Sansa go into a loveless marriage with a gay guy?
Are there any loving marriages on this show (in the book)? Seems like pretty typical old school royalty type stuff. Marriage is about power and not about love.

Only marriage I can think of is Robb Stark I guess, and perhaps his mom and dad's.

His mom and dads was arranged after Cat was engaged to Ned's brother (who fought little finger in a duel over her). Ned was consolation prize. The way she's presenting it to Sansa is what's important wrt the idea that margaery only manipulates. To her it's nothing but a block on LF gaining lands and power, but she's selling it to a naive (though less so now) girl as a wonderful, joyous life with every woman's fantasy.

You got all that from their 2 interactions so far?

In addition to other scenes involving the two that arent necessarily them interacting with each other. It's been pretty abundantly clear with the arrival of grandma that Margaery and the Tyrells are manipulating the situations to their best advantage. Plus the scene (among others) last season with her and Renly in the budoir that showcased all she wanted from her marriage with the would be king. So basically I get that from 2 seasons plus 3 episodes.

Someone remind me what happened to the mountain again. Forgot about him.

Margaery is doing some serious work here. She's getting the people of King's Landing to love her, and trying to get her brother to become a Stark and have a claim on the north. Boom, she kills or otherwise destroys Joffrey and has the loyalty of the people of the south...waits for or orchesterates Robb Stark's death, and will then have her family perfectly positioned to reunite Westeros under their banner.

Easy peasy.

Love that girl.

Yes, don't forget what the name of this show is....it's all about the Throne and who is willing to play the game to get it. And by extension, what happens when you don't win.

Robb Stark was/is one. Ned and Cat's was NOT according to the book and movie. She was cold to him and married him out of duty after being betrothed to his brother. Book(s/ novels serialization) spoilers:

Alot of the Targaryen's did thanks to the influence of Egg. (Albeit.... to their relatives, as revealed in some side stories) Jaehaery's II and Aegon V and his line. married for love, Additionally, Jorah Mormont (the bear) did too, but ended poorly, and driving his family unto a shattered shell because of it.
TLDR/Spoiler results: In this world, it ends badly, and is rare.

What clam to the throne would Margaery have if something happened to Joffrey? Wouldn't his brother then sister be next in line?

As evidenced by what happened to Stannis Baratheon and Ned Stark, claims to the throne are worth about as much as cow####.

Maybe I am mixing the mediums, but I was under the impression that loras was part of the kingsgaurd so couldn't marry anyway.

yes, she would be queen regent if they got married and Joff dies (without a boy hier). His little brother Tommenn (SP?) would have claim to the throne.

That last episode had me lost in sections. I don't get wtf happened out with the harem.

4 episodes in this season of ??? episodes and it just doesn't feel like it's going anywhere.

We've got what? 10 plotlines going right now? 2 of which are getting tiring to me (Snow and Bran) to the point where I wouldn't miss it if they just dropped them entirely and never went back there.

6 episodes left and it's starting to weave a little off the rails. JMHO.

really? I think this season has been great. last season seemed to wander a bit before the final 2 episodes.

I usually have trouble keeping up and I'm having no such issue this year. This season has been out-freaking-standing so far.

Although I do agree with culdeus on Bran (and to an extent Snow, although that's improving). Bran and Theon really don't do anything for me.
