How didn't you guys recognize the song? It's been done several times. It's badass lyrics and melody. The Origin was explained last week and the name of the episode was rains of castamere.

Book people need to seriously #### with the "how did you not recognize" schtick that they go into every week over stuff they read substantially about but show readers only got subtle hints at in the show. It's really easy to pick stuff out when you know it's going to be important later on. "Oh, she just talked about that song that's going to be important later!!!". Not so much when you don't know what you're looking for. Yeah, Cersei told a story 3 weeks or whatever it was ago. I'm pretty sure most tv only people weren't focused on the song title in that story, and even if they were I'm not sure how hearing the name of it in story would magically make you recognize what it sounds like on a violin. Oh, because Tyrion whistled it a year and a half ago? Ok, well then, how could we possibly miss the connection there? They did a good job of making Kat react to it to clue the tv only audience in that something was amiss with it. I'm pretty sure they did that because they didn't expect most TV viewers to somehow know what it sounds like or even immediately recognize its importance based on one side anecdote from a few weeks ago. But hey, you can read and you're proud of that, so congratulations.

The song is much more of a TV thing than a book thing. Seeing as you can actually hear the melody.

Ok, no more complaining from me about major character deaths, if they had to kill a few big ones, I'm glad it was kat and Rob, I think I even wished for that.

Was pissed we never really saw Rob's hot wife fully nekkid. Her death might have been more brutal than any other death on this show.

FYI, you can't hear a song when you read a book. Us book people heard it exactly the same number of times.

I consider myself a fairly perceptive person. I'm generally the one that my friends go to when they "don't get" what's going on in a show/movie.

The whole deal with the song playing didn't jump out to me. It was an obvious change in tone, so I got the sense that something was up, but I had no idea what. I find it pretty hard to believe that too many people instantly picked up on it if they didn't know what was coming/haven't read the books. I get that they talked about the song a couple of weeks ago, but come on, that's pretty obscure. Tyrion whistling a season and a half ago? Come on man.....

I didn't recognize the Lannister family toon either. I did recognize that something was up by the way they focused the camera on certain things though. Like how drawn out they made closing the doors with a guy who's approach to it was all business. Then, they focused on the band in a strange kind of way directly afterwards. It just seemed like something was about to happen. Then of course, Kat figured it out. I'm sure there were other things that set the mood I'm just not thinking of right now. Having not read the books though, the way the shot that seen definitely made me feel like smoothing was going to happen prior to it going down. Very cool, yet mind blowing and sad at the same time. Btw, do we even know for sure that the hottie married was his actual daughter/granddaughter? How could he have all those ugly chicks and then her? When I watched it through the first time and Frey/Robb exchanged the look once the real bride was revealed I assumed the Frey look was because he had messed with Robb by rolling out all those ugly chicks prior. Thinking later that none of the uglies were actually his daughters.

Yea, tyrion whistled the song throughout last season, but I didn't know what it was he was whistling until episode 9 last year when bronn sang "the Lannister song" before the battle. Then they played it after the credits if that episode. It was played several times this season during episodes (just the cello part in fact), beric's gang sang it when the found Arya, they played the instrumental after I forget which episode, and cersei went out if her way to explain it last episode (not in book and designed to give background for viewers and to throw off people as threat to tyrells).

That would make 0 sense for Frey to do that and not have an in to Riverrun.

Yup, but what I don't get is that the Lanisters clearly had a hand in it by the remarks made when they killed Stark. Why not just have the Lanisters there to really drive the point home? When they started killing everyone they should have had a Lanister come out to seal the deal.

That was the guy that had Jaime and then let him go. How would he have gotten the Lannisters in on it?

I assume Frey made a deal with Tywin soon after Robb shafted him. So they've been scheming for a long time now. Bolton knew the set up was on when Jaime was brought to him....so let him go because he also knew he'd be his ally soon.

While the books have the lyrics and state when the song is being sung or played it is not like you know what that sounds like. Sure, I knew the meaning of the song before the show started, but it wasn't really until late last season (because of a podcast) that I started hearing and thinking about the music in the show. The non book reader of the podcast is very focused on music in film and TV so he brought up the musical cues and hints that were going on ie - Rains of Castemere and Melisandre's theme. Just like me, the other person on the podcast, who had read all the books, hadn't picked up on those. It's one of those things that you start to notice once it is pointed out to you, but I completely understand people not picking up on it naturally.

The list of people that we want to see get a particularly gruesome death continues to grow. The list of people left that can do it to them continues to shrink. Glad I didn't try to buy low on that Starke stock.

LOL at Jon Snow. Either doesn't recognize or doesn't care about seeing Bran's wolf, then rides away from both it and his girl.

Tyrion as Lord of Winterfell would be an interesting plotline.

Just a guess - but Snow may have seen the wolves and guessed something was up - so he leads the wildlings away by taking off on the horse

This was pretty much the formula for the Sopranos seasons - the second-to-last episode had the grand finale and the final episode wrapped up loose ends and set the stage for the next season.

I also thought about the Sopranos when the credits rolled against a black backdrop with no music.
