Thought the episode was good. Though, as I have felt for a long time, the writers seem to miss key things and/or add tension/drama where it shouldn't exist.
For instance:
Brienne knows why Jaime killed the Mad King, as does Tyrion, as does Jaime (obviously), as does Bran - but no one seems to bring up that Jaime killed the Mad King to save the entire population of King's Landing. Similarly no one, like Jorah, her blood riders, Bran, Varys, Jaime (who presumably knows how Viserys was killed) bring up the fact she let her mad, cruel, brother - her true king - get killed for much, much less without uttering a peep.
I am not a fan of deus ex machina - but Bran's knowledge/power/character is severely under used. You telling me he can't warg into some ravens to give some timing, locations, and numbers of wights and White Walkers? The best place for an all seeing 3-eyed raven is to sit as bait for NK and an zombie dragon with a cripple protecting him? It Theon/Reek really an upgrade from Hodor? At the same time, his best choice of action is to cause *legitimate* tension between Jon, Dany, and Sam with the Aegon Targaryen reveal?
Timing of travelling is getting a little ridiculous on all counts. Theon, Tormund, etc. etc. must have learned the ancient art of teleporting.
This Sansa/Dany tension is as contrived as the Sansa/Arya tension of last season.
Children of the Forest all gone? Every last one? Warging by Jon, Bran, and Arya no longer a thing?
Plenty of other nits to pick but overall, I think they are doing justice to the fans of the show and the story. Hoping GRRM can do the same for the books.
