People who "still aren't sold on Smith as an NFL QB" clearly haven't watched a 49er game in over 2years.
Well...that settles it then...he is the greatest ever. The point is comparing the two on their performance today is apples and oranges. When the SF defense failed against NO last year, Smith sure looked really good when he HAD to make plays.Yeah...how about Smith against his own defense and let Rodgers pick apart our sieve of a D.I'll let Pack fans rip this post a new one.Score 30-15Rodgers 197 yds, 1 TD, 1 INTSmith 196 yds, 2 TD, 0 INTRodgers is better because he threw against a prevent defense and puts up 400 yds against the scrubs of the NFL.Duh.Anybody make sense of this post yet?30-15, Rodgers had 197 yards, 1 td 1 int. Well, there is a poster going out on a limb.People who "still aren't sold on Smith as an NFL QB" clearly haven't watched a 49er game in over 2years.
I know Smith's story so well that I can tell you it 365 different ways when tucking you in at night while still keeping it the same story. How many different coaches did he have in his first 7 seasons? The guy doesn't make costly mistakes. If Williams doesn't fumble twice (among other really unlucky plays), it is very possible the 49ers could have won the SB with him last year. He finally has a coach who believes in him and WRs to support him. Their team is not built like GB where Rodgers has to throw 400 yards a game to win, but when he had to against NO, he not only did once - he did it twice.I still don't think Smith is for real as a QB, not a true field general QB who can beat you with his arm. He is still hovering around average in his 8th season as a starting QB. QB's who are for real aren't hovering at average in their 8th season. That being said, again he was solid.Pack would finish last in their division w/o Roger IMO. The guy is that important and good. That said, Smith couldn't have played much better. He missed a few throws/reads but everyone does. He was efficient and made plays when they were there. While Smith is nearly as important to his team as Rogers, he is still a major reason they won and are as good as they are.I saw that. Smith was solid, but Rodgers carries that whole team. Smith doesn't carry the 49ers. Smith has shown he can't carry a lesser team. Right now, GB is the lesser team to SF. GB would be worse without Rodgers by a mile. The guys on Football Night in America all said Smith outplayed Rogers.![]()
Lasr season, what I hoped for is that Smith become the QB in the same sentence as Big Ben and Eli Manning. I'll let others make that case now. I'm gonna be cremated, and by the time I finally pass away in 40 or so years, Alex Smith will still be starter for the 49ers because he will still play well below the starter contract scale.By "for real" do you mean "one of the better QBs in the game"? Because not many people think he is, including myself. But with the team around him now, he doesnt need to be....plus, this is one game, and the first game of the season in a place SF hasnt won since 1990. Lets get a few games into the season before we start analyzing his progress from last year.On a side note, I bet youre headstone is gonna have an Alex Smith bash chiseled into it. Let it go and enjoy the fact that the Niners are contenders again.I still don't think Smith is for real as a QB, not a true field general QB who can beat you with his arm. They aren't even in mid-season form yet. The only issue I would be concerned about is the 49ers buying too much into their own hype, getting a bit undisciplined, and Harbaugh losing his mind. By mid-season the passing offense should have it's identity, but if it's still hit and miss, that is also a concern. When both defensive Smith's start to rev up and go on beast mode in the pass rush, that my good friend is when this #### gonna get scary for other teams. Now imagine what this ridiculous defense is going to do in six games against St. Louis, Arizona and Seattle in-division.
Jesus.

Thanks Andy Reid, your lack of support for your team made us 49er fans happy.

I will take a hit-and-miss passing offense if that's what it was today. Smith only had 4 incompletions where he wasn't trying to kill the play.'drummer said:They aren't even in mid-season form yet. True, but on one of those plays, the receivers were in Jimmy Raye run in a straight line mode, and Smith owned those in the past. I would have liked to see Smith launch it and complete it to make a statement there. But I guess I'm just nit picking.I will take a hit-and-miss passing offense if that's what it was today. Bush is a moron.Clay had more of a point...some dropped balls and fumbles you don't normally see did hurt them. But the Giants did beat them.Packers' Jarrett Bush says 49ers 'really didn't beat us'

Alex Smith was essentially flawless. Frank Gore ran wild through the Packers defense. Late in the Green Bay Packers' loss to the San Francisco 49ers, we thought the Packers were lucky just to be in the game.
The Packers feel differently.
"We beat ourselves. They really didn't beat us," cornerback Jarrett Bush said after the game, via the Green Bay Press-Gazette. "We just have to hunker down and make sure we're gap sound and get on the same page. Obviously, small things being miscommunicated on the field become big things, so they exploited us and that's what happened."
Oh boy. If any of this sounds familiar, let's replay some comments from Clay Matthews this offseason about Green Bay's playoff loss to the New York Giants.
"The fact is, (the Giants) didn't beat us; we beat ourselves," Matthews told Michael Silver of Yahoo! Sports.
Give us a break. The Giants and 49ers pushed the Packers around. Green Bay has lost three of its last five games. Their defense was generally awful for all of last season.
We're starting to think Green Bay's attitude that no team can actually beat them is part of the problem.
Yep.Teams winning by exploiting the weaknesses or mistakes of the other team in the NFL? Get out! Bottom line: the 49ers were and are the better team right now, and the Packers need to work on fixing their crappy defense and DOA running game.
Nope, looks like Bush took lessons from Matthews.Yes.Happy?Now go away troll. Will Clay Matthews say the gave this game to SF?
I erred. I should have played it safe and not named a specific player.Nope, looks like Bush took lessons from Matthews.Yes.Happy?Now go away troll. Will Clay Matthews say the gave this game to SF?
Calling someone out=integrityMaking pointless statements is immature. "Well...that settles it then...he is the greatest ever."(Talking about Alex Smith) "Wow...big newsflash...a player admits he is on the last year of his contract."(Discussing Jennings may leave GB after his contract is up).I'm bringing your outbursts into discussion so at some point they stop. Doesn't Manning play in Denver? The Niners currently have the 2nd least amount of cap space in the league ($936,923).Peyton Manning's estimated cap hit for 2012 is $18,000,000.Alex Smith's is $9,500,000.Who you gonna cut/trade to make room for Manning? As a reference point, here are the remaining top cap numbers for this year:2) Justin Smith - $8,208,3333) Vernon Davis - $8,017,6674) Patrick Willis - $6,537,0005) Dashon Goldson - $6,212,0006) Frank Gore - $6,000,0007) Carlos Rogers - $5,500,0008) Michael Crabtree - $5,359,0009) Isaac Sopoaga - $4,955,00010) Anthony Davis - $4,413,667 Don't forget you're not gaining the entire salary, because you have to replace the players.
You came into this thread bringing nothing but calling me childish. That is not integrity when you come in here with no intention to discuss the topic at all.Your comments here and following me around to sling crap at me is as childish as it gets.My post above was not an outburst.Id rather see you try to actually discuss something in the topic for once or just ignore me and be done with me (as you claimed you were going to last year because I had the nerve to call you a homer).Seriously...grow up.Calling someone out=integrityMaking pointless statements is immature.
