Game Thread - MNF Green Bay @ Seattle (1 Viewer)

Everyone keeps talking about the Farve vs Holmgren rematch, but what about Ahman Green who was shipped out from Seattle. Isn't he going to be playing with a slight chip for this game?

It just seems like this is a game with so many stories within the game. Farve playing hurt, Greens last chance at redemption, Alexanders foot (is he finally healthy?), Hasselbeck?

Anyone else looking forward to this game like I am?

I am looking forward to it. I am starting A Green and if Favre wasnt injured I would start him to.

How likely is Hasselbeck to start?

On paper, Seattle should destroy them but we'll see.

anyone take a peak at the forecast for Seattle tomorrow night?

High of 35 with snow showers...yes, snow showers...

We may have the most snow I've ever seen on the ground here in Bellingham (100 miles to the north of Seattle), and it's still coming down very heavy.

The Green vs Holmgren/Seahawks subplot played out long, long ago. It had already been played out 3 years ago when they met in the playoffs. Two seasons after the trade the Hawks went to Green Bay on MNF and beat the Pack. Then Green came to Seattle earlier in the playoff game season. Green killed the Hawks in both games although there was some dubious reffing in the playoff game that called back a fumble by Green and additionally added about 2 yards to his "first down". And then of course the OT coin flip by Hass which many mock but for me was the moment that Hass became the true leader of the team. In other words, there have been at least 4 games, including a playoff win for the Pack, games at both stadiums, and millions of gallons of water under the bridge since the trade. The Green factor is non existent. One note on the Holmgren/Favre deal. Last year with the Hawks having clinched homefield throughout laid down to the Pack in week 17, virtually assuring Favre of a win in what many, many thought would be his last game. A nice gift last year but there will be no gifts this year.Edit to add: Green was a fumble machine in Seattle. He went on to greatness in GB but he COULD NOT keep the ball in his posession in Seattle. He was a freaking liability here and wrote his own ticket out. With Hasselbeck's emergence and Alexander I think both teams benefitted from that trade. I'm not sure if wife beating laws are more lenient in Seattle or Green Bay so I can't comment on how Green made out on that angle.

These are non-stories for most fans in my opinion as the teams have played each other many times since Holmgren left and Green was traded, several of which were far more interesting games than this year's version (such as the playoff game at Lambeau 3 years ago).edit: Mad Sweeny covered it better while I was posting, although I disagree there was any generosity toward the Packers in last year's game. The Seahawks were resting their starters because they had wrapped up home field through the playoffs, nothing more than that involved. The Green-Vinson trade worked in the Packers favor, but trading Hasslebeck for a draft pick upgrade that became Jamal Reynolds was a disaster that continues to haunt the Packers to this day. Many Packer fans resent the way Holmgren left the team, but this is a story for another day and the fact is there is still a "Holmgren Way" street leading from the freeway to Lambeau Field in Green Bay.

The biggest win in this series was the Pack knocking the Hawks outta the playoffs 3 yrs ago at Lambeau. I had front row seats and got to hear Hass shoot his mouth off during the overtime coin flip. "We want the ball and we're gonna score"! Haha, best day of my life when Harris returned the pick for the winning TD..Plus I got to hug a fine looking chick sitting next to me...Ahh good times...

To begin, I'm about 100 miles north of Seattle. There is a pic of my back porch attached to this post from this morning. We got hit with a blizzard yesterday. From what I understand they got much less in Seattle. All our schools were closed today.

Looking forward to Hasselbeck returning to the lineup. Green Bay has been giving up a ton of passing yards. Also hoping to see the Seattle run defense improve. They've been hurting without Marcus Tubbs. If you can't stop the run you've got zero chance to get through the playoffs.

The 'Hawks are going down!!!!!!! Hass will be on his ### all night long baby! BOOK IT!

:lmao: I tried to say it with a straight face, really.

There are strange and mysterious sounds

When the winds of winter blow,

The long nights are crystal clear and cold,

And the fields and meadows are covered with snow.

The stars are frosty against the sky,

And the wind's whistle is shrill,

As the snow blows against the house

And drifts against the hill.

Yet, I like to see during the winter

A white carpet on the ground,

To plod aimlessly in the deep snow,

where deer tracks abound.

I like to feel the stillness

Of a crisp winter's night,

Watching a full moon rise over the horizon,

Exposing a winter wonderland beautiful and bright.

:bag:

Webcam from the Space Needle says 36 degrees and broken clouds, but no precipitation at the moment. Is any expected during gametime? Looks sunny over the stadium from the last snapshot.

Ugh. Rachel Nichols just reported that Favre wants to see if he can throw okay in pre-game warmups and will tell the coaches he can't go if he can't control the ball. She said his team-mates don't believe there's anyway he won't play, though.

Should be an interesting battle between the Packers patchwork o-line and the 'Hawks patchwork d-line.
I'll see your patchwork Green Bay O-line and raise you Seattle's mincemeat O-line. C Tobeck and RT Locklear not playing to go along with LT Jones limping around on a bad ankle (and just playing like crap).

Packers: Bouman will be number two

The News

Recently signed Packers quarterback Todd Bouman has taken over the number two spot on the team's depth chart behind Brett Favre, according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette. Ingle Martin will retain his role as the third quarterback.

Our View

The Packers just signed Bouman this week after Aaron Rodgers was placed on injured reserve with a broken foot. He's now inherited the easiest job in professional football, which is backing up Brett Favre.

Thx, BoomBoom. Bouman is who I thought it was. But ESPN (where my league is) designates him as being with the Saints

As a result, he cannot be picked up from waivers since ESPN thinks he played already. :(

Just heard an ESPN face say, "Jackson has the talent to be in the elite tier of WRs".

I don't believe that. Never will.

He runs great routes. He gets open. But I've never seen him make a spectacular catch. Not one. He's no Boldin. He's no Fitzgerald, Moss, Owens, Horn, Harrison, etc. He just happens to be the best WR in a great passing system.

I had to choose between Green and Alexander tonight. I was hoping to go with the better o-line against the worst d-line. I went with Alexander. I'm not convinced I got the decision right.

Speaking of Seattle WRs. Here's a nice chart detailing targets, catches, drops, etc. of all the WRs. I would copy the table, but it's an image.

More evidence as to why I'm such a huge Hackett fan. I hope he gets a chance to shine tonight.

EDIT: I forgot to credit Mike Sando at the Tacoma New Tribune for this. He's done a great job in covering the Seahawks this year. I have to admit that I've leaned on him more for information than I have Farnesworth at the Seattle PI. I used to give Sando a bad time for being a blind homer, but he's gotten much better.

The Pack should get destroyed in this one, but whenever Brett is banged up he somehow has one of his best games..With the cold and snow its like Lambeau west...I still think the Hawks win, but the Pack will make it interesting...

I'm probably too close to this situation to be objective. Wish I could give you some solid input. I think Green bay shuts Alexander down and it falls on Hasselbeck to be productive. That said, the Seattle defensive plays much better at home, so I don't see Green doing much either.

I'm up by 13. My opponent has Alexander. I have Green or Driver. I can't decide. I've had Green in my lineup all week, but I could see Seattle jumping out early and GB being forced to throw. I'm sure I will make the wrong move. I guess I'm sticking with Green unless anyone has a compelling argument for Driver. Oh, and this not a PPR league. :hey:

Slippery track, lines banged up, Q.B.'s questionable. I can see both Alexander and Green having subpar nights generally but getting one or two breakout plays when a defender slips.

I'd go with Green. The Pats showed everyone how to shut Donald down, so I'm sure the Hawks will copy that. With the bad weather, I don't see a lot of opportunities for Donald either.

I have to start either Green or SA. Going Green (I think), but like you think it's a coin flip. Especially since last week a dinged up SA had 17 carries to Ahman's 13...

if the guy behind me loses, i'll sew up a playoff spot - he's down 23 with Alexander, Driver, and Ahman going...other guy has Seattle D.

Incidentally, if Jennings scores, i'll have the high score of the year thanks to LT and Romo (and Deuce, MJD, and Gates ;)

Nice start Hass!
