It WAS spearing. The announcers didn't even bring it up. "A shot to the chest" they say.

One of my biggest pet peeves. I don't understand why they don't just change it to be "it is a fumble if the ball is knocked out of the quarterback's hand, regardless of what position it is in."This slow motion review to see whether or not, maybe, possibly, sort of, his arm is going forward is rediculous.

It's not a backward pass if the QB is trying to throw it foward. If the arm is coming foward and a guy knocks the ball out of the QB's hand and goes backwards, it's not considered a backwards pass.
