Game Thread W8 - Philadelphia V Denver (2 Viewers)

Injuries or not, there is no excuse for Denver's defense to continue to collapse week after week in the second half. Even if they win this game, their upside is really limited. You cannot win in the playoffs if your defense continuously tanks in the second half. On the offensive side, Shanahan needs to get aggressive again. Just running the ball and throwing dink passes did not work the last two drives.

This could be a very interesting second half for Anderson and Bell owners. I'm guessing Denver is going to be the anti-eagles come 3rd quarter and we see 30 rushes with no passes. Show Philly how its done.
Forget it. Never mind....

Oh, and how big is Putzier's pass interference penalty on Denver's first possession of the 2nd half looking? Elam would have had a 47 yard FG attempt (which he usually hits in the air in Denver). The penalty put them back and they had to punt. Instead of 31-7, it stayed 28-7. Philly then scored soon thereafter.

Anyone else thinking Elam is no longer the automatic 3 point kicker like he has been in recent seasons? He seems to be struggling much more this season.

This Jekyl/Hyde act is getting really ####### old. And, you're right 'elway lives', elam is no longer elite. He's average at best. I'm hoping Denver takes Mason Crosby, the Colorado kicker, in the draft.

Well ... it happens. Still up 2 TDs. Let's hope the offense still has a few tricks left.
Shanny's letting the Eagles get close so he can keep THROWING the ball instead of pounding MA, thus showing us all what a #######g *genius* he is.(Yes, MA owner)
To be fair, this isn't Shanahan trying to be a genius, it's him trying to put the opponent down for good. That said, I agree that there were probably a few more opportunities to run, whether it's MA or TB.
I dunno. Trying to put games away by switching away from what worked so well in the previously? (run/play pass).

That and the fact that they are essentially burning a roster spot on someone who can only kick field goals averagely. Can't help but think Elam's days may be numbered.

Nice interception to prevent the Eagles from tying the game, but considering Denver intercepted Manning last week on the 2nd to last drive only to then allow the winning score on the next drive, I am not going to get too excited. Time for the offense to do SOMETHING.

In addition to tanking every fourth quarter, doesn't Denver also always get some key turnover that for a second gets everyone thinking "YES....they should be golden now!!". .....as Foxworth gets an interception for the Broncos.

Well, the roster spot thing isn't a huge deal since they cut Ernster and have Sauerbrun doing kickoffs. But yeah, Elam is no longer powerful or accurate. I hope he hangs 'em up after this season. He was very good for so long, but he is more of a liability now than anything else. I'd hate to see him suffer from Jerry Rice syndrome.

TD! That was HUGE! Had Denver not scored after having that drive stalled by penalties, that would have killed any momentum the INT had created. As it stands, the Broncos take a 14-point lead again. :)

You know Berman is going to call him "Bell Biv Devoe"Or maybe "Are We Not Men, No We Are Devoe"

Oh yes. Good point. And I agree with you on Elam hanging em up. One more superbowl perhaps??? ;)

Devoe has been very impressive from what I"ve seen of him here. Filling in nicely for Watts as he's been having his problems this season. Tell him I said :hey:

Ok, forget THAT. Never mind. Again. Nice run TATER!!!

Bell took it to the house again. Where are those "Bell will be the starter by week <insert a number>" posts? Does anybody still think this way? Just curious.

Tatum Bell's 67-yard TD run gives the Broncos a 42-21 lead! *starts to breathe again*Also, this is definitely a year where RBBC is the best thing for Denver. Bell has the ability to hit the home run (as he jus showed), which Anderson does not (unless he gets a huge hole), but Anderson is better at sustaining drives by grinding out yards than Bell.

Nope. Like I said before. Bell is "high risk, high reward" every week. He either breaks a long one or he does very little . I'll take the more consistant RB (Anderson) every day of the week.

forget priest and lj, tatum and mike are the combo to have
Hell yeah...I own them both and have been riding this train for the last few weeks..I'm screwed next week for the bye tho...

Strictly from the perspective of a Broncos fan, I think this rushing combo is fantastic. I completely agree that Anderson bashes the D and gets the tough 3-4 yards, and Bell then comes in and knocks them out. Both players are probably flawed, so it's a great adaptation by Mike Shanahan to change his traditional RB setup in order to get his traditional production.

Imagine what Tater could do with 25 carries. :)

I have him in 3 of my 4 dynasty leagues & I can't wait 'til next year. ;)
Well, that's the thing. Shanahan doesn't think Bell can handle anything more than 15 carries per game.

That combo has the best situation going. You know both of them wanted to be "the man" early this season, so both want to show the other up (privately of course...publicly they are getting along great). They are both allowing the other to rest, and both are licking their chops when it is their turn to play. Fortunately they've both been stellar so the RBBC can continue.

Anyone know when the last time was that two RBs from one team topped 1000 yards? It is very very likely that it happens for Anderson and Bell. That would be awesome.

I agree with all of you guys... I love watching Tatum break those long runs. But how can you not love watching Anderson move the pile like he does.

I want to say it was a Browns team in the mid 80's
