Game Thread - Wildcard - Carolina V NY Giants (1 Viewer)

Carolina is a very good team, and I feel like a quite legimtate superbowl contender(especially seeing that I think the Skins can beat the Hawks and if Carolina gets by the bears, they get Wash for a home game). That said, this is an AWFUL loss, and as embarassing as any I can recall in Giants history. They are just disgustingly flat and look listless on both sides of the ball(even the steady Feagles is crapping out too). The Giants have had some doozy playoff losses, but at least when they blew the lead to San Fran it was on the road, and when they blew the late lead to the Vikings at home in 94 or so, it was more like 57 minutes of strong football and a late collapse. They've shown nothing all day, and if they get shut out at home, I think it will register as the worst playoff loss in their history(and they've had some notable ones in addition to the ones I mentioned). What a disgrace to LT and Carson on the sidelines.

Giants are just getting whooped today. Yeah, if about 10 things went differently we would be in it. <_<I knew when we slotted with Carolina that we could be in for a tough day. I didnt expect this bad - no offense at all, no tackling... just horrible to watch. Regardless, I am very, very happy with this season. In the end, the team and especially Eli need to go back, rest for a while in the offseason, clear his head - then work on building on the early year success he had, along with some technique issues. Eli has been a deer in headlights most of the day, but he now has that first playoff game under his belt, one more thing for him and the team to learn from going into next year.Would be nice to see the Giants do SOMETHING just to give a little good taste in their mouth - but as I type that, another Eli interception.Chalk it up to a great season, better than we all thought, some unfortunate LB injuries at the worst time and most of all, a young QB who has this necessary stepping stone under his belt. Great job Panthers - well prepared, well executed. Delhomme showing why many think he is one of the more underated players in the league. Just wins.

Very surprising that the Panthers are just blasting the G-Men in NY. I can't imagine how many people bet on the NYG in this one.
:hot: :hot: :hot: :hot: :hot: ####### Eli. "I'm going to try and have fun and stay relaxed." Yeah...okay...

I hope the Bears murder Car next week.

With Eli's performance, I guess someone should start the "Who should NY Giant's draft at QB? Eli is not the answer." I'm sure the discussion will make it's way into the pool. Wait for it... :D

John Fox is less than a quarter away from being 3-0 on the road lifetime in the playoffs. He never seems to get mentioned when talking about the NFL's best coaches. That needs to change.

The Giants should put "J Load" in the game. Just give him the ball, put a sandwhich in the endzone, and watch the offensive fireworks.

They just weren't ready - a typical "first year playoff" team. Would have hoped the vets would have prevented that - but when you have a very young QB and no LB core, a better team can just put a whoop on you. That's what happened here.It will be an important building block for Eli's giants. Yeah, he has growing up to do - and he would be the first to say that. If anything, the team's management will not let everyone rest on their laurels of a division winning year because of this effort.

The past two offseasons have been very, very good for the Giants. Franchise QB, Plax, Pierce, McKenzie, Snee just to name some. Not sure who will be a FA this year but will look soon.

Again, great job Panthers. Just a far, far better team today.

I feel bad for tiki and all the vets
i'm a Panther fan, but I  Tiki. i'm glad the Panthers have been able to contain him today, but at the same time i wouldn't mind seeing him break off a 100 yard touchdown, just as long as the Panthers still win.

Good post, hes one of the nicer guys in the league. Him and Strahan wont be in the news for bad things like other players, then just play and play well. They have respect for the giants and seeing Tiki with his Giants hat on sitting there makes me feel bad for him.

SB not playoffs?

Great season for Giants disgusting effort (or lack of) todayDidn't someone tell the Giants this was the playoffs?

The Super Bowl is not considered a road game. It is a neutral site game.

Ok, all we need is a TD on this next play, two point conversion. Then, onside kick recover, and TD on first two or three plays. Extra Point.Recover another onside kick (come on, so possible), and you have over a minute for another TD, two point coversion - then overtime.Where we'd lose the toss, and see Flipper Anderson all over again.

Panthers are a force to be reckoned with. Their D is extremely tough against run-based offenses, and they challenge a QB to beat their pass coverage. No need to mention Steve Smith.... we all know about him.Panthers shut down Tiki today and baited Eli into trying to beat them. He can't, at least now in his career. Add in the Carolina running game putting up 200 yards on a weakened NY LB crew, and you see how this happened.Should be very interesting against Chicago. Chicago runs first and has a strong D. Carolina will try and take away TJones and force Rex Grossman / Muhsin Muhammad (Reunion time) to beat them.

Something tells me Troy Aikman, whom I think is a pretty good announcer, has been enjoying seeing his former NFC East rival take it on the chin today. You can almost hear it in his voice. :P

Yep -he's the one loose and relaxed and having fun.

So much for the Giants D playing with an ounc of pride. I did not see one player on a running down attack the line of scrimmage Mike Wahle mus have loved seeing that not one Giant defender got penetration when he was pulling on all of those plays. It's like players were waiting to be engaged by blockers. That was an embarrassment. I don't care who was hurt, Strahan and Umenyiora are the only players who shouldn't feel guilty about their play.

Charger fans can rejoice that we don't have that piece of crap manning on our squad.
If you let me pick amongst the principles of that draft day decision for all teams:Eli

Big Ben

Brees

Rivers

I'd take Eli going away. Only caveat for Big Ben is it would have been him and an extra pick. But as far as a straight up evaluation of these QBs, I'd take Eli ahead of all of them going away. He culminated a bad second half with a nightmare game today, but experience will iron out those wrinkles I feel and you can't teach the intangibles and guts he has generally shown. And I'm sick about getting shut out at home in the playoffs, but thems the breaks, Carolina is a stout team, with the best wideout in football, a clutch playoff QB and the Giants got run over when they may have overcompensated to slow the passing game. We saw what their D is capable today and all season, and I really think we'll be watching the Panthers in the Bowl this year. But Eli is a keeper to me, bad day.
