General Malaise "vs." reading comprehension ; also some talk of skyim and the elder scrolls (5 Viewers)

So I've been playing this game about 3 hours. I'm a high elf. I decided to wander around in the woods and have been killing random animals and people. Inevitably I'll run into a group of people who do me in. I'm only level 2 with 1 perk upgrade (sneak). I think I should start into the main quest (riven something or other). Make sense?

I am playing this game at a snail's pace. Seems I have a touch of Skyrim ADD. :bag:
Believe me, I am too. I have a bunch of hours played, but am only level 7ish. I explore every table, cabinet, wardrobe, etc. filled with items, pick flowers and herbs that are growing randomly, look at random things, etc.
That's me. I'm so concerned I'll miss something big, I scan the room 2-3 times just to make sure
So you guys are this guy:http://penny-arcade.com/comic/2011/11/14
lawlI don't pick up everything. But, I do spend a lot of time trying to chase down deer and foxes on foot. :nerd:

a few random things:

- I was underwhelmed by the first dragon encounter. For me, it occurred at night. It was hard to see the dragon and the NPCs ended up doing most of the work.

- Giants are surprisingly fast and determined. I had one chase me for MILES and MILES. Every time I thought I had lost him, I'd look and see him following 100 yards back.

- The Dark Brotherhood came after me. A note said someone put a hit out on me. Is this quest related? I've only killed on person (on accident). Did his wife put the hit out on me?

- I think I killed the guy that runs the lumber mill in that beginner town - see above (Woodwhatever)

-

You run fast as #### as a WW and your stamina bar lasts forever. Very useful in a variety of situations.

Was it the Dark Brotherhood, or just some thug hired to mess with you?I had a hit placed on me too for killing a high level necromancer boss. But the "assassin" was a total wimp and after offing him I haven't heard anything since. If it was the Dark Brotherhood, I'd expect a never ending string of assassins. They don't give up after one try.

Stray dog. Anyone find this guy yet? Wonder if there's a quest associated or if he just hangs out.
Yeah I have a quest to find the stray dog. I talked to some guard while leaving a town. The guard told me to talk to Tao or someone like that. Who was looking for his dog. I don't know the name of the town but I believe it's fairly close to where you begin the game.

I had that stray dog. Then he was killed. Life is tough in Skyrim.

For those you deep-deep into the Thieve's Guild quests -

Holy crap is Nightingale armor bada##
 Is the quest after getting that armor the last one? It seems like a climax, and so I'm scared to start the quest. I anticipate getting p0wn3d.
I think so. I'm halfway through. We're chasing Mercer through a sick dungeon of Dwarven traps, automatons, and Falmor warriors. If you like following the story like I do, swing by the magic college library first and read up on the Dwarven-Snow Elf/Falmor history. I also think that wizard/researcher in Markarth had a bunch of these books on his table. It'll make things more understandable, IMO.
I'm doing the same one right now.Finished it.
And nope, not done the guild stuff yet! But AWESOME TREASURE FOR KILLING FREY!
Smoo, check your messages.Nevermind. Figured it out.

So never played an rpg. I was bored with the sandbox of Red Dead. Playing COD3 and mehhh.... Would I like skyrim? Hmmmm

Up until 3am doing the first few quests to join the Companions. Then bought an house and my character and I both hit the sack. :deadbanana:

Almost done the Thieves Guild quests. I am now level 29 and stacked with sick equipment. The guy looks like a total bad!@# walking down the streets in black armor and a glowing golden helm, with a glowing black bow strapped to his back.

I'm thinking of heading to the main quest after I'm done with the guild. It's time.

The main difference between Red Dead and Skyrim is the custom characters. Red Dead was awesome, but its main weakness (as with all Rockstar sandlots) is you're stuck playing the same guy. In Skyrim you can totally customize your character, from looks to skills, to strengths and weaknesses - the possibilities are limitless. Add to this the absolute enormity of the world, and I can see running through this thing at least three times with little overlap except for the main questline.

Question....

It seems like it's possible to have a all in one character. Meaning that it seems like with the exception of deciding to raise 2 of the three main stats (Magika/Health/Stamina) you can max out all other skills. Am I wrong?

I'm asking because I am really torn on using magic with this character as I would like to roll a pure Mage with nearly limitless Magika who can just spam heavy spells for minutes at a time.

My damn kids are watching Netflix and then later when the kids go to bed the wife wants sex.

I just want to play Skyrim. Does this make me gay?

The soft level cap is 50 and from there to 75 it is alot harder to level up. But you basically have 50 perks to work with so you can max out 3-4 perk trees or spread them around more. Can't really max out all magic and then like all sneak etc.

Yes, Red Dead is probably the best game I had played in years, and I like this a lot better.

Werewolf fun:

So I made my orc a smash through the front door type brute. I've got my 2 handed weapon up past 40 despite being just a level 10 or so.

But when I encountered the Frost Troll on the steps he royally kicked the crap out of me. I had the bright idea to take my werewolf powers after him but I could not cause damage in that form. I did manage to get him running from me and knocked his ### clear down the mountain. I have the sneaky suspicion that he is still down there waiting for me somewhere.

The steps up to the Greybeards?Funny, I was going to mention a hint to avoid that guy.....When I was walking up those steps you come to a part where it's sorta a valley and a little dark. I just had a bad feeling about it so I went left and avoided it. when I got around to the other side I walked up the steps a little further and because this game is simply gorgeous, I just looked around. Whne I turned back I noticed the Ice Troll on a cliff edge waiting for a traveler to pass so he could drop on them and rock their world. Not me though.....!

Epic Glass Daggers with like 35 damage + 2x backstab multiplier + 15x assassins blade multiplier = 30x35 damage each hand. One backstab hit from me I think should basically kill anything as long as I am sneaking.

For people wondering whether to get it for console or PC...PC all the way.The mods are so worth it. Just look at Morrowind..with mods you can make the game look better than Skyrim. Not to mention the mods that add in NPC schedules and such for Morrowind.Trust me...you will want to play with the mods when they start pumping a lot out for Skyrim.
This will be me next year when the GOTY version comes out w/ DLC. Until then, I'll let the modding community chew on the game a bit and play on the 360 in the mean time.:)Oh and I found a stone that gives an awesome ability for us hoarders:
It's the Steed stone west of Solitude. +100 lbs you can carry :) I don't like using a companion, so this is perfect imo.

Am I the only one paranoid, that when exploring, I don't want to kill random people because I think they might be quest-related down the road?

My wife hates Skyrim. What's worse, I just caught her explaining the plot of Twilight to someone on the phone and I couldn't make fun of her for it, because I knew she'd mention Skyrim and I'd be done. The things we sacrifice for our addictions.

Okay, I'm a little cheesed. So here I am, minding my own business... okay, well, actually shooting arrows at this giant undead tomb boss... and he casts this magic thing and suddenly my bow was gone. Not just any bow either, but my prized awesome you-mastered-the-thieves-guild bow. Did he disintegrate my awesome bow? Just like that? I'm scouring the room now trying to find it. It's not on his stinky corpse, not in his treasure trove, not anywhere. WHERE'S MY BOW?!?

Just had my first PS3 freeze. :hot:
That sucks. Hopefully isolated. In other news I managed to get my PS3 hard drive replaced. I tried to back up the whole drive with no luck as it was pretty well screwed up. I did manage to get most save games off, except for my kid's game saves. Those were protected and I had to buy a Plus membership to back those up. But it is back up and running and my PS3, which was locking up every half hour or so, is now smooth as silk.

 My bow is gone.
can you not save game?
LOL. I'm being melodramatic. It was an awesome bow, but life goes on. Plus, I can just get it again with one of my other characters.I'm just saying, watch out for enemies who disarm you. Apparently the stuff doesn't disappear, but the weapons can clip into the ground as they're skittering across the floor.

So, I've heard you can get a house in every city. Does that mean you always buy them, or are some acquired in... "other" ways? Because I think I may now have a house in Markarth and I feel a little dirty about it.

Finished up the Thieves Guild line a couple of hours ago. It was pretty good, but not as good as the corresponding quest line from Oblivion. But that's a hard standard to live up to; the final mission in that one is still the best single "quest" I've ever done in an open-world game.

Without spoiling anything, I wish more of this quest line had been solo missions instead of missions that force companions on you. It doesn't feel very thief-like whe you're rolling with people who yell and charge into battle as soon as they spot an enemy.

Yea, the only real grip I have is the forced companions. Well, not so much them as how quickly they aggro. I've probbaly "lost" a full level or two worth of skill just because while I'm drawing my bow back waiting for the enemy to charge around the corner, off goes dildo around the corner screaming like a banshee. If I do manage to get a shot off, it either hits my buddy in the back or manages to be the second to last blow for the kill. Kinda like this:   ....................................... :whoosh: :football: :ninja: ........................ :towelwave: RAWR....... :deadhorse: :censored:  :argue:

manages to be the second to last blow for the kill.
I've seen a couple of references to this. This doesn't matter. Killing blow, not killing blow. There are no "experience points". Every hit from your bow on an enemy is going to increase your archery skill, regardless of whether it's the killing blow.Granted, companions will take away potential hits that you could have gotten yourself, but there's nothing special about who lands the killing blow. It's just another hit.

I just killed a necrophiliac.

Doesn't this game just have everything.

Also -

Hit an annoying bug. The bartender at the Thieves Guild sent me to get this creeper's four journals. I get them and come back. I wade through his menu options to return the journals. He says thanks, here's your reward, blah, blah, blah. But no gold is handed off. And when I check my inventory, the stupid journals are still there. What a gyp.

Speaking of houses, my house in Whiterun has an issue. The bed is owned, but not by me and I can't even sleep there. Is this the case with anyone else?

I have that issue too. There should be two beds, the other one works.

Well that is good news. Now if I could only get them to move out of the F'n way!

This. One bed is for Lydia. Although as your personal servant, I don't see why she shouldn't be sharing yours.

Walking around with both

Mace of Molag Bal and Mehrunes Razor
is not making me popular with the locals.
