General Malaise "vs." reading comprehension ; also some talk of skyim and the elder scrolls (1 Viewer)

If this has been covered, mea culpa. I am on my second time through (first was a tank) and am using a hybrid magic user/archer high elf....I haven't found (on either time through) any book that has any conjuring other than bound weapons and the fire atronach. No frost, no storm, no demora....am I missing something here? I have found scrolls for the first 2 and have used them, but I am talking about the spells themselves. Are these gained from books that I just haven't found?

I got a minor side quests to collect ten fire salts for a blacksmith. If this is specific to only one blacksmith, then you likely know who I am talking about. My questions are:

1) Do you get any good perks for completing this? Like better blacksmithing at that location, or maybe some free blacksmithing skill increases? i.e. Is it worth doing other than to get it off my stupid quest log?

2) If it is worth the effort, where is a good place to get these dang things? In all my wanderings since I received that quest, I have found exactly THREE, which I then accidently used at the Alchemy table. Since then, I have managed to purchase TWO more, putting my grand total at TWO.
I think that is what you get out of it. But I don't remember exactly which means that it probably wasn't anything that was worthwhile. But if you do find enough fire salts, you may as well complete it.You can get fire salts from alchemy shops, random ingredient from mage/vampire lairs, or from killing a fire atronach that doesn't belong to you. If you keep your eyes open for them, especially in the shops, you'll find them sooner rather than later.
Also, keep your eyes on the shelves of the shops. Several times I found a fire salts on the shelf that wasn't available for sale. I just swiped it.

I've never seen one either but I know there is a way to create your own spell tome at the college.

All too often I am right at my carry weight and am trying to figure out what the hell I have that's so heavy and then look at my potions list that's like 200+ items.
This was me. Then I decided to drop almost everything in to my chest except healing, stamina and magik regen, and then a protection from each type of damage. To be honest, I rarely use any of them, healing being the most often used. For tougher battles, Protection From ... potions can prove invaluable though.I am toying with the idea of loading up every potion I have in to my inventory, going in to a corner of my house, and then in one fell swoop, dropping each and every one of them just to see what the pile looks like.
I have started doing this as well. Each time I am back home I dump all but the healing potions. I have rarely used any of them, and for one quest I had to craft some armor that was magika resistant so now I wear that all the time for ~40%-50% resistance.

I'm sure you can either find the books or buy them at some point, but some of those can be created using something found in a dungeon that you go into during the Mage's Guild quest. I'm not sure if the recipe to create those books is found anywhere during the game. I imagine it has to be. I cheated though and looked it up online because I really wanted the Storm Atronarch.

Only if you are trying to become a thane by helping the citizens.
I believe it unlocks the ability to be trained in smithing by that particular blacksmith.

I have an amulet that blocks 50% fire, boots that block 40% frost. So for the most part, I will give up 13%-15% bow damage to put those on if the situation warrants. So I suppose I am actually wasting space carrying those potions. I don't craft my own simply armors simply because I can't enchant to anywhere near that level, and my potions aren't anywhere near that good either. Guess I need to hit the chest again. Though I suppose I could stack the two (potion and amulet or whatever) since I have been running in to Master Archmages lately. Those are still tough for me.

Generally speaking you find higher-level spell tomes as you move up in levels in that school of magic. Fire Atronach is the lowest one (well, other than bound equipment). Then Frost. Then Storm. Then Dremoras. I've graduated up to Frost right now with conjuring around 35-40.Once you're an appropriate level, you should see them for sale by the conjuring person at the College.
My conjuring is in the ~60 range, I use my room at the college but not much else. Need to go talk to that person....I have been concentrating on doing all the side quests that I didn't do the first time around and haven't even went after the horn yet and am around level 34 or so.

There is a forge under the college... down by that weird thing you went to talk to in one of the quests.

The recipes are right near the gear. But I think you need a mad high ability in some skill (alchemy? conjuring?) to use it.
If you enjoy fighting atronarchs, then yes, those recipes are great. If you actually want to create the books that let you conjoure those atronarchs for yourself, you need different recipes. Oddly enough, the one I didn't have in my inventory was a ruined book and I had to actually go through like 3 dungeons to find one :lmao: I was dumbfounded that I kept picking dungeons without any. I don't think it requires a certain level of anything either. I could be wrong, but I am a mid-level character and had no problem using it.

Master mages are still tough for me as well, but it helps to withstand the brunt of their initial attack, and if if they detect me then it makes it that more difficult. My Enchanting is only in the upper 60s or low 70s so I can't do really strong weapon enchantments yet, but once I get to 100% I should be able to put a good sized banish enchantment on my bow.

Sounds like we are at the about the same level on enchanting then. I started making a concerted effort to build my blacksmithing numbers, but didn't concentrate on enchanting nearly as early as I didn't relize it's power. So my enchanting is running about 25 points behind my blacksmithing. The main issue now is a lack of lesser soul gems to build it by enchanting the dozens of daggers I make building my blacksmithing skill. The mages I buy from seem to never have more than 3 or so each time I visit. And my dagger only casts soul trap for 5 seconds, so as a bow sniping type character, it's hard for me to use it to get that killing blow to fill a gem myself. As for those Master mages, one shot, even with sneak in the 90s, and they can ALL see me. So it's more a matter of using terrain to block their attacks than it is hiding!

I enchanted my bow with soul trap and I have more filled gems than I know what to do with. It's to the point where I have to carry two bows or else I'll fill bigger gems with lesser souls.

I'm nowhere near the level of enchanting/smithing/overall as the others, but I carry a secondary bow with soul trap on it, and swap it out in battle for just these occasions.

Anyone completed The Forsworn Conspiracy quest?

No was way I going to prison for stuff I didn't do, so I killed the guards inside the shrine. Outside the shrine, more guards came at me, so I ran as fast as I could out of the city, jumped in the river and rode about 5 waterfalls down the mountain.Am I forever persona non grata in Markarth now?
I just did this a couple of days ago, and I let them take me to prison (even though it was sort of out of character) just to see what would happen. It was actually pretty damn cool. You might consider reloading an earlier save and going this route.

You can also fast travel back and get into the Shrine again, which should respawn the whole guard sequence of going to prison or fighting

I actually found a dwarvian bow with the entrapment enchantment already on it. So I switch between that and my glass bow. Now that I have found Black Soul gems I am curious to see how strong the enchantments will be.

Re black soul gems and how to get them
When you complete Azura's Star, don't return the broken star to the top of the mountain; this gets you a reusable gem for grand souls. If instead you take the star to the guy in the pub, you get the star itself, which is refillable with human (black) souls. IMO human souls are way easier to obtain than grand souls. One shot a bandit with your soul trap bow, WALA filled black soul gem. ACP hipped me to that tip.

Why bother with filling grand soul gems? Buy them from the Jarl's mages for 1000. You only need 4-6 for a full set.

Any secret tips on where to get refined moonstone or moonstone ore? I just unlocked elven smithing but now I can't find any moonstone to smith elven gear. I've been to a couple smiths with not much luck. How often do their inventories refresh?
I found some to the left of Rorikstead... the place was called something sinkhole. I'll check when I get home.
Soljund's Sinkhole.Warning: the guy hanging outside is a little squishy if you have an amulet of Mara on.

Thanks, already have it and filled. Just sucks because it's a one at a time deal.

Because I can make a crap load of money making daggers and enchanting with banish. Hell I was getting 700 for banish up to level 7 on a dagger.

How much money do you need? Not "you", but in the game. I can't spend it fast enough and I'm just enchanting with the petty gems I come across. My first guy was level 45 and had 80K(after buying 2 homes), my new guy is level 23 and has 20K after buying Breezhome.

I don't know because I haven't had more than 10K and I did some level training. I don't have enough coin to buy the next level up house and I and at level 38 :bag:

Better the. Archmage place? I'm one of the guys who never has money for anything. Hoping once I start getting into Thieves guild that will change

Not really. Most the thieves guild jobs only pay 300 gold. Eventually it went up to 450, but it was nothing spectacular. The biggest money makers I have found, which seem to keep me in the 25k region even when buying high priced training, is using Lydia to carry everything I find when dungeon diving that has a 15-1 weight to price ratio and selling it off, and making daggers and enchanting them with banish, which lets you sell them for around 500 a copy even when enchanting only with a lesser soul gem.

Hey, "take all" button...#### YOU...#### YOU RIGHT IN YOUR ####### #### ###.
Yeah. This.It wouldn't be that big a deal if there was a corresponding "store all" button, but there isn't. So if you hit the wrong button while looking in your chest or apothecary satchel, you're forced to spend several minutes re-storing everything one by one. In all honesty, stuff like this is why I think Bethesda deserves no benefit of the doubt when it comes to bugs/glitches. If you can't get basic stuff like this correct, it suggests that there's something wrongn with your design team.

This is what I need to do. Find a half decent secondary bow and put Soul Trap on that. Would definitely solve the issue.

Try doing the radient quests for the thieves guild (as in "restore the thieves guild to its former glory"). By the time you finish this, Tomila will have 4000 gold each time you visit her, plus you'll have immediate access to four other merchants right there in the Flagon. You can acculumute wealth really fast at that point.

I JUST went through this. Accidently used the Take All button while in one of my chests in my house. Even worse, when I went to put it all back, I didn't realize I had "missed," and actually ended up dropping everything! I dropped so much crap that I actually took damage! I guess there wasn't enough space for all the junk.

How many do you have to do? I did like ten of the ledger quests for Devlin and got a message about the standing increasing. But the pay only went to 450. Did I need to do more? Do something different? Just not sure.

After you complete 5 for each keep, you will unlock a "special mission", once you complete that every fence will increase their gold by 500.

Ah, I misread the post. I thought he said he was getting 4000 per mission. Now I see he said the fence will have 4000. RIF.

Didn't spend much time tonight but I got to kill a random Dragon. I am trying to get it together a bit before I go back to Diplomatic Immunity. I accepted a couple of jobs in Solitude from Redbeard and the court wizard. I need some more cash to buy a house and I want to work on my fighting a bit before I go back to the embassy.

Dude, sorry. It is dieing or dead. :( . That is exactly what happened to mine. Eventually it would shut off quicker and quicker until it was unusable. Red Light of Death (red light blinking) is the heat issue too many of the original units succumbed too. The good news is that the slim models are much less likely to have this issue. You can read more about the blinking red light in the link below. Be careful trying to have it fixed, many people have reported the problem eventually returns. Now what ever you do, do not throw it out. I was able to get $80 for mine, sold as is, on EBay which makes the slim pretty cheap to buy.http://ezinearticles.com/?PS3-Blinking-Red-Light---What-Does-That-Red-Light-Blinking-on-Your-PS3-Mean?&id=5235176

Don't panic yet. If this is the very first time it happened, do this1) let it cool completely2) turn it back on and get the disc out immediately3) turn it off and let it cool again4) plug in a USB stick5) turn it on and quickly save your game data to the USB stickThen when you get the new one, just load the game data back on to the new ps3 via the USB stick and you won't lose anything.

If your unit won't boot, your data is pretty much unreachable but you can still get the disc out. Here is one simple method if push comes to shove

Got the game out. Wont turn on long enough to get the data though  :hot:

Dude, sorry. It is dieing or dead. :( . That is exactly what happened to mine. Eventually it would shut off quicker and quicker until it was unusable. Ok that happened to me as well. Let it sit overnight. I got it to stay on for about 30 seconds once and that was enough. Keep trying but not one after another. The unit has to be as cool as possible to have any chance.
