Interesting new discovery - playing this at night with the lights off and wearing your new cordless Xbox headphones that you got for Xmas makes for a much creepier experience  I haven't jumped this much since track and field day in elementary school
I have to have the lights off if I am doing any kind of dungeon crawl or exploring at night, just can't see well enough with the lights on.

Thinking about doing the Dwaren ruin to get Mjoll's weapon back for her. Quick question, is this as ungodly long, boring and reptitious as the Mzllft ruin (or whatever the heck it's called) was? Or is it a bit more of a standard size?
not sure about this one in particular...but i do know i run very fast away from Dwarven ruins. wayyy too long and uninteresting for me at this point in the game
Ditto, which is why I'm asking. I want to complete this quest just to unlock her as a companion/marriage option. But I'm only willing to tolerate so much pain to do so.

Tell me more about these headphones. What model? do you like them?I remember playing Resident Evil 2 with the lights out and surround sound going -- that used the scare the chit out of me.

tick tick tick :chills:

Had a blast last night, finally cleaned up some lingering quests.

1) One step away from being pulled into the Companions inner circle

2) Killed two blood dragons

3) Cleaned out two redoubts and the Sinkhole

4) Made some bad ### potions using that Apothecary Engine link from a few pages back, sold the stuff for more than $10,000 gold

Funniest thing was I had lost Lydia in a battle a few days ago, and assumed she was killed. Hadn't seen her. I fast traveled back to Whiterun to unload all the loot I gained, and who was waiting for me at the front gate? Lydia. She's like a bad habit I can't shake.

I've turned to Aeyla the Huntress as my newest compadre.

Since Big Gay Orc is a melee tank, I figured having her shoot arrows from afar would be good.

So I craft her a Legendary Daedric Bow and swap it for her lame Hunter's Bow.

What does the !@#$ do? Pulls another Hunter's Bow from *who knows where* and uses that instead.

So I'm thinking of trading up for Farkas. Equip him with some armor and a few unique items I have laying around the homestead...

Aeyla sucks.

I got these as an Xmas present:http://www.amazon.com/Force-Digital-Wireless-Audio-Xbox-360/dp/B002KSPL36/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1326472169&sr=8-14Pros: not too hard to set up, they sound really good, and it brings an entirely new experience to the game, which is totally awesomeCons: they're kind of heavy on my head, they burn through AAA batteries (takes 2), can get "staticky" (not a word, I know) and cut in and out, especially when the batteries are getting low, and once you set them up and plug them into your tv with the piggyback RCA adapters, the sound only comes through them, not the tv. I assume you can unplug the piggyback RCA adapters, but my flat panel is mounted above the fireplace and it's too much of a pain to go through again to unplug, then plug, then unplug, etc.For those of you with a different setup (home audio system, etc.) your setup may be much easier than mine and it might be easy to connect and disconnect these from your system as needed. All in all, though - WAY more fun with these puppies, so any cons have been totally worth it. Even the low level monsters and animals scare the bejeebus out of me when you add the creepy music in, especially when you're travelling in dungeons or at night. I almost wet myself last night dungeon crawling through a troll lair, as I could hear the heavy breathing around the corner before I saw the baddies. Falmer do that to me as well

THere's a way around their default weapons. I don't know it, but there is. :notshovelshtick:

They are supposed to use the weapon with the most damage I thought.

Yeah, I was more curious about the eease of setup and swapping them in and out. I just run HDMI from xbox to TV right now.

I read somewhere where some characters have default items that you have to work around.

I'll see if I can find it

It's a console command:

- equipitem <formid> - use to force a NPC (mainly followers) to equip one item from their inventory, useful for making them use a better weapon than their preferred one;

can someone repost this...can't find it. TIA
http://www.alchemyplanner.com/It's a game changer. I rolled back to my crib at Whiterun and plugged in my ingredients. I had tens of thousands of dollars in potions available.

Plus, I was able to keep some awesome poisons, which I've been using on dragons to make them much easier to defeat.

To remove the hunting bow, open the console with the ~ key and do the following. You should be able to just mouse click on the character and do "removeitem 10e2dd 1", but for some reason that doesn't seem to work for me... I have to preface the command with their RefID. Might be because I'm using an xbox controller with my PC or something when I remapped the commands on the controller.

If the above doesn't work when you have clicked on them, then doing it with the RefId:

For Lydia type in: a2c94.removeitem 10e2dd 1

For Aela: 1A697.removeitem 10e2dd 1

Any other follower: Go to http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Aela_the_Huntress and type in the character's name into the search box. Go to their character page and look for the RefID on the right hand side.

If it doesn't say after that their item count is 0 you need to keep doing it, as they can have more than one.

Make sure you click on the character to select them before using the command, or else it would try to force you to equip the item. And if that doesn't work for you as it doesn't for me, have to do "refid.equipitem" as in my previous post.

When I was using Belrand before he disappeared with my weapons I had equipped him with some enchanted legendary ebony weapons and what does he do....after a brawl in a dungeon clears I see this fool standing there with pickaxe I had him hold for me for mining ore! It was like catching your dog with a shoe in his mouth. WTH?? Had to take that thing back from him

Since I can't access, well, ANY gaming sites at work, maybe someone can answer this using that thing, or may already know. Is there a recipe for creating potions that help with enchanting? Or do those potions have to be found/purchased?

you can make them, I forgot the ingredients but I usually have a laptop with an alchemy wiki when I make potions.

You don't waste your time making a bow for an archery companion. Seriously. It's about all you can do.

5500 gold this am. If I just leave my crap in the barrells by the lumberyard will someone grab them? Not sure I'm seeing the value of dumping my coin on a house yet.

I don't know that someone will grab it, but I don't think the game handles saving the location of stuff in random spots very well. If its in your house, the game remembers what you had and where it was. In a random barrel... probably not so much.

Maybe. Or maybe the area will reset and instead of your crap being in the barrels you'll find 2 heads of cabbage and a wooden plate. Getting the house is completely worth it.
####. now i want to run home. I put a sheetload of stuff in there.

This. Most zones reset every 30 days or so. Which doesn't mean you have 30 days to get your stuff. You could be 2 days away from the next reset.A lot of us suggest focusing on the main quest until you have faced your first dragon, at which point amongst other benefits, you can buy your own house where that won't happen.

I think one way to get more out of the game is to stick with one type of combat so you can replay again as something else and it will be new. I'm playing as a mage, and I'm not even going to do the Thieves GUild or Dark Brotherhood quest lines, so I can do those as a sneaky backstabber/archer. Also will probably try a two-handed tank or sword and shield at some point. I'm also leaving a few cities as unexplored as I can so I can focus on them in future characters.
But man they really need to have a better save game scheme so you can have slots for different guys. You'd think they would have learned this by now.

As a sneaky archer type guy who is sick of Lydia hanging around, any thoughts on what type of companion I should be looking for?

It seems a tank type would be the best fit for my build, but with Lydia it seems like she goes out of her way to position herself in between me and the target (is this just her, or how the melee type followers work?), so I would almost like to try a different type.

The only one I've come across who will join me so far is the mage in Riften, so I'm probably not looking in the right places or doing the right things to find followers.

Why not the archer dude in the first town?

I assume you're talking about console, as PC you can have as many saved games as you want. How do they have it set up on console now? I played Fallout 3 on console and it also had unlimited saves. Just had to scroll through them to find the right character was the only pain.

Here is a spreadsheet people have put together that tries to list the max level for each follower, and what type of skills they have. Like whether they are best with light or heavy armor, whether they are a sneaker or not, archer or not, etc.https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/lv?key=0Aly8njaU3H1adGJYTlJaUnRxRUN2RnM5MkxPaU1mQkE&toomany=true

Slow Time & Use arrows. The key is to hide behind the wall and he tends to stay in that spot so you can shimmy out, shoot an arrow, and shimmy back. If he hits you, you can heal behind the wall and he generally doesnt come after you. If he does happen to make his way towards you just run by him to the otherside of the wall and he goes up the stairs and you can use the same strategy. Took me awhile to figure a good strategy.
I got right up next to him and never gave him an opportunity to get off a spell. Pure meelee seemed to work well. When I tried the long range stuff he toasted me - badly - ad nauseum.

Cool, thanks. My Alchemy is at 100 and I haven't found a way to make potions that are better than +10% enchanting. You can find potions that are +20% and +30%. Use those sparingly / wisely.

Okay, I will save the better ones for creating my usable items. But answer me this if you know. When I am enchanting daggers or whatnot just to sell and bump my enchantment experience up, do you get more "credit" for enchanting them with the 10% bump? Or do you get the same amount of experience either way?
