General Malaise "vs." reading comprehension ; also some talk of skyim and the elder scrolls (1 Viewer)

Also, do you have your Light Armor skill maxed out at 100 already? Perks make a big difference, but the skill itself also matters.
Nope, like SoCal I am in the 40s or maybe 50s for light armor.
That's probably a lot of it right there then. I believe it scales pretty directly. If you have identical armor, perks, etc at Light Armor of 50, your armor rating will be about half of what it is at Light Armor of 100.

Lydia drives me crazy. I am still a very new character (level 16) and I see things I don't quite feel like I can handle, so I try and sneak by or try and position myself to snipe and there she goes off lauching arrows or running forward. Not sure if it has been mentioned in this thread, but has anyone else seen the random flying horses?I loaded a saved game inside an Imperial camp and as the screen came on, one of their horses took off straight in the air like it had a rcoket on it. It them landed about 20 seconds later in this huge pile of dead horse. Today I had it happen again, I just cleared out some random prison up by the college and I am looking over this valley and, right out of the blue, this horse drops out of the sky right on the sharp stakes of the prison wall just impaled it dead there...Weird...

I have not run into flying horses, but I was out wandering and saw the back half of a horse sticking out of the side of a big rock.

I had a dead horse practically fall on me. I have no idea where it came from but it seemed to fall out of the sky. Landed in a heap a couple of feet in front of me.

I may have to move out of my Solitude house. THE MANNEQUINS MOVE! Seriously. The first time I saw it I thought it was my resolution or the lag but when I enter through the lower door - almost every time - there is a slight movement by the left mannequin. Like they were planning some #### and I surprised them. I usually enter through the other unlocked door (the 3rd door, the patio, doesn't let me in) so they can have time to act frozen but every now and then I forget and enter through the street level door . . . and . . .RIGHT THERE! The Fn mannequin Fn moves!

Give me monsters, demons, dragons, whatever - no problem. But mannequins that move? FTS. No way I'm sleeping there. If I wake up and a mannequin is by my bed, I will probably scream like a little girl. I don't even like turning my back on them now.

See, now that's the kind of thing that I read and then think, "Damn, need to make a mod where the mannequins come to life and attack you". But maybe start it out by just shifting them a little bit each time they come back, so it isn't obvious but eventually the player will start to wonder if he's seeing things.I wonder if you can make someone's head spin all the way around... hmm.

Thats some Twilight Zone ####

There's a very good chance that Chief Nokka the Wood Elf was 12000ft above you on a mountain ledge and overestimated his horses climbing ability. I think I killed 6 or 7 horses in my entire run this way.

I had no idea you could grab people when fighting unarmed. Is that like a hold down the left trigger to do it, or is it more like a killing blow it just does on its own?

One of my first thoughts as well. How do you grab someone's head and pummel them like that?

So I did the alchemy planner thing and I made like 30K worth of potions. Great if you can actually sell them all. But there is never enough money in the shops.

thisand wtf is up with my lvl 47 guy and the shops only having 500-700 gold on hand?My lvl 32 fella gets WAY more respect than thatAre they mad because i'm stylin' on them rolling around with 100K?

Just ice formed a forsworn... he froze and started spinning and flying around all over the place like a chinese star. :lmao:

I have so much gold, I thought about buying houses just to unload some of it. Thing is, you have to gain favor in the town to be offered the privilege. My level 47 character is out slaying dragons, wasting Dragon Lords, swacking Daedras. He simply could not give a rats *** about the people's petty problems. So I just carry around the gold, kind of taunting thieves and bandits to try and come take it.

It's good to carry 6 or 10 of those around because then any item you see for sale you can get it for "free" by buying it, then selling back your uberpotions.

This has been a great thread to read through, it has added a lot to the fun of playing the game. I haven't had any horses drop out of the sky, but I have a weird glitch that has resulted in something rather odd. When I leave Whiterun just before the stables there is an odd looking man named Louis Letrush, After playing the game for a few weeks instead of just one there was an addition 1/2 of him sticking out from the ground next to him, both now asking if I need something. Now after many more game hours it has slowly increased up to five copies of Louis asking if I need something (I don't). Not sure if killed the bounty total would be for five or only one.

It's been mentioned a few times during this thread, but I'd highly recommend players try using the third person view while out exploring the back wood areas of Skyrim. I next to never used third person view during Oblivion, but it really plays well and adds a whole new dimension to Skyrim. It has also made me appreciate even more the graphics and scenery in this game.

Which quest lines have been your favorites? I'm trying to save a few for my next play through I'm not sure from what others have posted if doing the Civil War quest line and joining either the Stormcloak or Imperial Army makes much of a difference, any advice on that?

Thinking that you have whirlwind sprint set as your shout and in actuality it's storm call...is bad if you're in a city. :sadbanana:

I think I've broken the Thieves Guild quest.

I'm at the point where we put on Nightingale armor and wait for Karliah to open the gate. Brynjolf and I are just standing there and every few minutes he says stuff like "I think we should trust the kid." and "All this time and Mercer is still out there." I've spent ten minutes just standing there waiting for the gate to open. The chain won't work, I can't find Karliah, I've wandered around and slept in a bed and came back and there's nothing to do. I can see the arrowhead of the quest target floating on the other side of the gate but we can't get there.

If I have to reload from a previous save I'm just moving on without it.

Anyone have this happen? Or have a suggestion?

They're self-contained quests, but I liked Repentance because it gets you Illia and Frostflow Abyss has a no-downside reward. And they both have kind of interesting stories as you go along.
I was all about The Stormcloaks early on....then I began to realize that they are complete #######s.

I just had this yesterday! I rarely walk anywhere anymore. But just yesterday, after hitting up the fence at the brewery, I decided to hoof it back to town rather than fast travel. Sure enough, I saw that dude sticking out of the ground. Guess I'll keep fast traveling so maybe I don't have a crop of those dudes poking out of the ground.

Question on the Thieves Guild generally. I started it because I'm kind of a sneaky guy so why not. But then I did the first (or second, I suppose) quest where you act as enforcer to collect their protection money. And I felt like a real #####... breaking people's treasured belongings and threatening their family? Not cool. So I dropped the questline. Are the rest of the quests similar? Or can you do them without feeling ####ty about yourself? The Thieves Guild quests in Oblivion I had no problem doing. Reassinging Lex? Sure. The guy was a jackass. But these.... distasteful.
That's just to get in. But the people remember - when you walk by them later they give you attitude. Once you're in the quests involve a LOT of sneaking and many stipulate "don't kill anyone" or "don't get caught or spend time in jail". Some are straightforward and some are interesting "sneak puzzles".
Yeah, I'm tired of walking into the Bee and the Barb and hearing lip. Even after I gave them a free wedding ring decked out with flawless gems! But yeah, the beginning makes you feel like a real creep. It gets better though.
I still hate Maven Blackbriar though. If I ever get a chance to actually kill her, she'd dead. In fact, last nigh I loaded up a save point, then went in and blasted the heck out of her. I think my bounty ended up being around 15,000 or so, lol. It wouldn't let me actually kill her though

Both sides pretty much suck. The Stormcloacks and Ulfrich are jerks and would suck if in power. On the other hand, the Imperials tried to execute me. So I decided not to do either one. Screw them.

Ditto. Which turns out to be helpful in one of the MQs, or at least apparently avoids a bug.The only thing that I'm getting behind at this point is the extermination of the Falmer. In a world full of people who suck, they take the cake for being the most cruel and twisted.
There are several questlines I've decided to just leave for round two. Joining one side or the other is one of them. Dark Brotherhood is another. I have spent so much time doing the Mage Guild and Thieve's Guild questlines that I am sort of getting burned out, which is why I decided to leave these all for another run through. I'm already level 48 doing just those quest lines that I have. I see no need to power up anymore. And to be honest, I may not even finish the Thieve's Guild just because I don't want to give up the quest item I have in my possesion. I've also avoided any Markath or Solitude questlines for the same reason. All these things SHOULD keep round two more refreshing along with using a completely different character build (I will make the Steed Stone my b*tch in round two).

What do they do? I've only encountered them when in Dwarven ruins... they just seem like little ugly elves.

I'd suggest reading the lore books as they're more interesting than the associated quests most of the time. The series involving the wolf queen and the real barzinthia and the book on red eagle are particularly good. The red eagle one you find out that he was the first briar-heart. I also read the vampire hunter one every time I come across it.
Speaking of Red Eagle, I got this quest for a THIRD time. Is this normal? Is this just a recurring quest every time you find a book? The second time, as I posted way back when, everyone was dead, and the carcas just had a different sword on it. The only respawned enemies were in the crypt or mine or tunnels, whatever it was. And even then, the main "boss" was still dead once I opened the cavern with the weapon. But the outdoor camp, everyone was still a corpse.

I haven't been to Falkreath or Dawnstar at all as far as I can recall. Markath just long enough to plant some evidence for the thieve's guild. And I've had that stupid Dawnstar museum invite since like day one. I was nearby and got tempted, as I was killing ghostly crabs or skeevers or something for a quest. But I decided not to go there.

It's fascinating how many different tacts people take to the game. Hearing that some actually avoid visiting entire cities surprises me, that never occurred to me as an option. It seems that a lot of the quests, particularly radiant, require visits to most cities, if even for those small jaunts.

I'll at least visit the city or map item if i find it. If for nothing else but to have the detailed map should i need it at some point. But i have recently started to avoid any tasks or quests within some cities if possible.I already know the direction i want to take my 2nd character so i'm trying to make sure i leave as many fresh places as possible for that guy

That's cool. I guess for me I'm looking at this as a one and done experience. I generally don't get into these games (or at least I haven't in years), and this one pulled me in for the first time in a long time (five/six years), and while I'm loving it, I really know myself and know that once I've gotten through the main quests and epilogue stuff, I'm quite likely going to have a hard time wanting to go through a lot of the leveling up and machinations ever again.
