General Malaise "vs." reading comprehension ; also some talk of skyim and the elder scrolls (1 Viewer)

Man, after you hit level 45 or so, it's really tough leveling up.
No kidding, I have been in the low 50s forever. It's hard since you max out the skills that go you to that level so how are you going to level up.
Don't rush. I get the feeling when the DLCs start coming out, it's going to make it easier to level up to say maybe level 75 or so, in essence removeing the soft cap. Those that really pushed their levels doing things they didn't realy want to or things they don't really use may well end up being hindered by the fact they did so. No way of knowing for sure, but it makes sense based on past expereince with DLCs.
I'm starting to get this feeling that no matter what you do to get to level 50, whether you concentrated on upgrading your magic, your fighting skills, or ability to make serious weapons, you are a supreme being in Skyrim until you increase the difficulty.
I have mine set at adeptive (I think that's it) and I still die a good amount...more then my liking anyway.
IMO it doesnt really matter how difficult the battles are or what difficulty setting you are at. I mean, what's the fun in getting two shot killed by some insanely strong enemy? you can always carry enough health potion to avoid dying no matter the enemy's strengthI'd love to see some more creative battles and opponent strategy. I've lost count of how many dungeons i've crawled where i kill the draugers before they even pop up. Or how i seem to know where every attack is coming from before it happens. That's what makes the game fun for me is finding "new" stuff even after hours of gameplay

So I decided to do the marriage thing with some hot miner chick that I met after I cleaned out a mine of spiders. So I propose and before going back to the temple, I want to sell some stuff. I go to the blacksmith (some big bearded, bald guy) and start selling and the guy starts asking me if I want to marry him instead. WTF!! Now that I have read the Wiki, I see that you can marry a guy and it is nothing unique, but I sure as heck didn't know that last night. I thought it was a glitch since I have noticed some problems with the 1.4 patch, but the look on my face last night was probably priceless as Hjorgd the Barbarian wants to spend the rest of his life with me.
I haven't had any guys hit on me but then no women have either. It's very distressing. I am beginning to think my guy is completely unattractive.
Dumb question but are you wearing the amulet of Mara?
Well when trying to be marriage material yes. I did remember that the fisherman's wife in Riften keeps telling me she could do worse for a fling so I have that going for me.

Well that's all I got  not sure why you can't get someone to marry you. I did Mjoll's sword quest, then got the amulet and was married in about 10 minutes total time.

I haven't been, the only skills that I powered through were Smithing and Echnanting. Everything else was done just playing the way I play for this character. Hoping the DLC comes soon, finished the main quest and just have to get Guild Master on the guilds and I am done. I really don't see myself going back and starting over with a different character.
Yea, I'm with you there. I'm almost done and will likely go back and finish up the Thieve's Guild since the only reason I put it off was so I wouldn't have to mess with lock picking. I also want to finish up the side quest where I need to get five blood types to activate some lexicon for a loon up north. But that's probably it until a DLC comes out. I had planned to do another character, but I don't think I have the motivation for it anymore.

Think I may have found out your problem with her.
After speaking with Mjoll for the first time, the player must gain a level in order to see the option of retrieving the Grimsever when speaking to her again. This was tested using a level 81 character that was unable to start the quest; After using the console to lose a level and regain it, the option to locate the sword appeared.

You know I have gained a level but I don't think I have seen her since I did. I'll give it a shot. But that's weird because you only have to be level 14 to get the quest.

Only thing I found relating to that quest that could be considered a bug. It's definitely strange that they set it up that way.

You don't have to do errands at Riften, just agree with her that Riften is corrupt and listen to her drone on about how she is the protector of the town. Then she will like you and tell you about her sword.

But now that I know how the levels work for your companions she may not be my choice anymore. It seems your companions levels follow yours but some have multipliers. For instance Lydia is straight one to one. If you're level 20 she is. IIRC from my reading Mjoll is 1.25 times your level. So 20 for you is 25 for her. I may look for someone at 1.5 to 2 times my level.

I had her as my follower from around 20 until about 40 and really never had any problems.

That really is a huge point in her favor and part of the reason I was really working that angle.

you need to be at least level 14. also helps if you agreed with her comment about the Thieves Guild.I got my eyes set on Muiri the hotty at the Hag's Cure in Markaff this time, its going to be a while until I get to the quest to win her over though.

I may need some Otis help here.

:lmao: I thought maybe Mjoll was picking up on his unrequited love for Lydia.

Perhaps. I curse the game designer who didn't go ahead and finish the marriage stuff for Lydia.

Unless you are playing on the PC and have access to the console. Kinds screws us console guys. Hit a bug in a quest and can't advance, here's the console command.

What do you guys mean when you say there is a "cap" on your armor rating. I just decked myself out in Ebony. With the matching set bonus I'm like 433 I think.

The Sanguine Rose is like the best thing ever. Very handy.-QG
I have so got to get this.
I got it and have used it maybe twice. I think I got it to late to be necessary or even useful.By the way, finished the main quest. Pretty disappointing final battle. I know people won't listen but, if you really want to enjoy the main quest, don't wait until you are uber powerful. It just really does drain the fun when the arch enemy can barely scratch the paint on your armor. It was harder to kill a bear at level 10 then it was to fight the final battle at level 55.

In case the link is confusing, all you need to remember is, 576 is the cap. Anything over that is really wasted. That isn't to say it isn't fun to see bigger numbers on your armor rating. But anything over 576 doesn't benefit you.

This is my biggest problem with the game (along with the constant crashing) -- the character is just way too strong. I just took out what I think was supposed to be a big boss, Tony Moeaki I think, by downing about seven potions and trading bow shots for spells with him pretty much toe to toe. Wasn't close. The game is just too easy.

What difficulty to you have it set to?

I heard a rumor that the Jarl of Solitude is marriage material under the right conditions.

Anyone know if this is true or false?

I don't want to know the conditions or the benefits. I just want to know if it's possible.

Im only at level 14 or so but one thing that is bothering is that they use the same 6 voice actors over and over again. On a huge budget game like this its annoying, and its something that the last 2 Fallout games never did.

Just a minor irritant in a great game so far.

There are over 70 different voice actors in this game which is a very large number for any video game. In contrast Fallout 3 only had 37 voice actors.

After skyrim, Go play Demon Souls. That will quench your thirst for dieing.

No. Do a quick google search for possible marriage candidates, there are a number of sites that provide comprehensive lists.

Yea and they all say - "Some people call this junk, but I call them treasures."

I have to say that this second run thru has been very boring so far. As a Mage with no armor, I am trying to do the College quests to get the arch mage robes. Knowing what to do and not killing Lydia basically has me summoning my flame and letting Lydia and flame do the hard work. Cant wait to start things I havent done already. In terms of the Rose, I have been to the Bannered Mare a million times trying to start the blackout quests and cant find the guy. He was there the first time I went in last time around. Frustrating.

I keep getting challenged to a drinking contest in Riften at the Bee and Barb. I figured this was the beginning of that.

Actually he appears in whatever keep was closest when you hit level 14.

OK, thanks. Im only level 5 right now because I havent been fighting too much outside of conjuration. Looks like I need to step it up a bit and start leveling. May need a smithing/enchanting session too

Im only at level 14 or so but one thing that is bothering is that they use the same 6 voice actors over and over again. On a huge budget game like this its annoying, and its something that the last 2 Fallout games never did.Just a minor irritant in a great game so far.
There are over 70 different voice actors in this game which is a very large number for any video game. In contrast Fallout 3 only had 37 voice actors.
Im just telling ya what Im hearing, maybe it gets more diversified later but it feels like 10% of those voice most of the game.

I agree. They may have 70 voice actors, but they aren't changing up their voices for different characters much. Although with the insane number of NPCs in this game it may not make much difference.

By the way, finished the main quest.
After skyrim, Go play Demon Souls. That will quench your thirst for dieing.
Actually this is what I was playing right before I started Skyrim. Put DS on hold for this game.

So, after the main quest, I went ahead and did the Museum Quest in Dawnstar. I am now the proud owner of like 6 Daedra Hearts. As someone who did the light side of the smithing tree, are these things of any use to me?

My one hour power nap in a deserted camp tent turned into one interesting neck slice all the way across Skyrim...

Now if I could just figure out getting hitched. I think I'm just gonna let it happen. Talk to all the hotties I can with the amulet on.

The Sanguine Rose is like the best thing ever. Very handy.-QG
Frustrating.
combat mage is my 2nd play through too, once you get runes, impact, and all three conjur forms you can set up a mayhem battle scene for your enemies, which I think is more fun than my 1st tank play through. Def have to get the rose so I can add another form to my SEAL Team 6.

Ok, as I mentioned, done with the main quest. Haven't done the Dark Brotherhood, but doubt I will. I plan to finish up the Thieves Guild and get my offical proclimation as Guild Master. And I need two more blood types for my lexicon for Mr. Loon and want to finish that up also. I'm already the Arch Mage. And married to Mjoll. I own the house in Whiterun and Riften. What are the fun things I need to do before shelving this one? Is it worth going after the sweet house in Solitude? I have well over 100k so gold isn't an issue. I have all 20 shouts. Just wondering if there is anyting worth doing that I haven't done yet other than the two things I mentioned?

Edit: Meant to add, I need two more masks. May do that also if I can find them without to much trouble.
