General Malaise "vs." reading comprehension ; also some talk of skyim and the elder scrolls (1 Viewer)

Anybody playing the remastered game and feel underwhelmed? Im a little gun-shy after buying the Bioshock "remastered" which wasn't very impressive.
Not even a little. And I didn't really even notice the remastered graphics - whatever. It's the mod support that makes this a must-buy if you liked Skyrim.

If you're expecting a whole new experience you're probably going to be let down.
I couldnt help myself at $30. While I hate the character animations, which are comically bad, there isn't a better game that immerses you in an environment like Skyrim.

Im going to try out that hardcore mod.

So, after becoming Thane of Whiterun, I was given Lydia as Housecarl. However, at the time, I had that guy from the tomb following me (both his and the tomb's names elude me at the moment.) He got killed during one of my quests, so I went back to Dragonreach to grab Lydia and suddenly, she's not there, ever. She was there every time I went back while I had this guy following me and now she's never there. What gives?

Do you own a house?

If you bought Breezehome she probably moved there.

Yeah, Breezehome, but she's not there either. She was never following me as I had another follower at the time and when I attempted to add her to the mix, she said something to the effect of : "It looks like you already have someone following you." She went and sat down at the long table and was just hanging out there every time I went back. That is, until my follower died. Ever since then, she's nowhere to be found.

She should be at Breezehome or the castle. Check the castle including the prison

Bitc#es, man.

If you can't find her start the Dawnguard quest line and get Serana she's a much better follower anyway imo.

So I decided to start the Dawnguard quest line. The road to that castle is a veritable mine field. I got attacked by numerous bears, assassins, those ice wraiths, and trolls.

Along the way happened across a Barrow some woman was trying to break into. I got her in and she proceeded to die by trap pretty much immediately. Got a word of power I didn't care about, one of the animal control ones, and when I finished it said to speak to her. She was just a puddle of goo so no talking.

But I had to do a lot of the tomb without Lydia because of the design. She wouldn't drop off the stairs to the bottom to get to one of the chamber's. Full of draguar wights. Just bowed the crap out of them. I'm not sure any ever got near me even the tomb boss. May be getting to that point where a follower is to OP to keep around. May be time to buy Breezehome and do the marriage thing. I'll see how DG goes and decide.

I'm not getting a new Bethesda experience but the game does feel almost new. But I ascribe that to the size of the game. I have seen so many new things and places even after the couple of hundred hours I put in the first time that it's like a different game.

On XB1, I'm on my second character now (of a planned three).  Each one will go to about the Horn in the main quest, then branches off to specialty stuff for that build. I'm also using cheat room mod to give each 80 in smithing and enchanting. I'll still buy the perks like normal, but have no desire to grind either of these again.

My first toon was a sneak / thief / archer. Like everyone else, I did that years ago too, but this time, I kept him true to a "thief" build. So I didn't invest anything in one-handed, only used one dagger, and kept him in leather-type armors. This made him quite squishy in hand to hand combat. He could take out an entire fort just sneaking, backstabbing, and sniping, but if I got caught, run away it was. I did the Dark Brotherhood and Thieve's Guild questlines, and a bunch of random sidequests. Topped him off at about level 35 (was getting tired of sniping, because I took a sniper to level 70 or so my first time around). No followers (doesn't work well w/ sneak).

Now I'm doing a tank-priest type build. He's a mace-wielding Nord with a little healing/nature type magic (I use a mod that allows for some nature summons, so his thing is summoning a bear when needed - that'll be as high as he goes.) In contrast to my last character, this is heavy armor, block, and one-handed. He just mashes through enemies - is way "easier" than the sneak guy. This toon is just starting the Civil War (imperial side), and will do the Companions quests too. He's also going to destroy the Dark Brotherhood (that's what you get for putting a contract out on him) He has a bow-only Lydia as a follower / spouse.

Whenever I feel he's done, I'll probably do a spellsword type, that uses bound weapons and summons acronochs while leveling destruction too - plan on doing the Dawnguard quests and using Serana as a companion, then hitting the college, and probably doing the main quest to completion too.

I got hundreds of hours out of the game previously, and doing the above with mods/etc is proving just as fun, if not more. Truly a remarkable game.

So working through DG. I recruited the guy and am.now working on the woman. She wants a dwemer gyro, I have two dozen. Just wish I had known beforehand as now I have to walk back there with one.

Or you could just pick up one from her satchel by the river just a few feet away.

Was planning on playing for an hour last night. Turned into 3

Was carrying too much when I got out of a cave mission so I wanted to make the walk back to Morthal. With no one buying weapons in that town, I drop it all in a boat and am immediately spoken to by a guard. If I do it again, Ill be in trouble

I had never even made it to Morthal my first go round so I decide to stick around and see what is happening. I stumble upon a mission that has me talking to a ghost. She tells me to come find her after dark. I look around for 4 hours (game time) and cant find her so I decide to do whatever necromancer cave mission that is right across from Morthal. Clear that out and find some super sweet robe valued at 1100

Go back to the town and see Alva (I think was her name). She is shacking up with the guy who allegedly burnt his house with wife and kid in it. I dont condone his murderous ways, but she is pretty hot.

Now I have to stick around for another night to see if I can find this brat ghost who was a no show last night

I kept coming back to the house, but she doesn't show up there.  Just a little out of town past the house....

yeah, i looked everywhere in the vicinity which led me to the necromancer cave

Ill try again tonight. maybe talking with the dad will give me an idea where she may end up

So I got to the point in the Dawngaurd DLC where you have to send Lydia home and I didn't feel like it. Been doing a lot of side quests I had built up with her. I got her some pretty good  heavy armor and I am high enough level I am starting to find glass for myself. Just did a lot of those little missions. Although no mission is short. Also was attacked by dragons so regularly it started to get repetitive. I was attacked by a Frost dragon two or three times when I left the mage college and regular dragons several other times. It's like they don't like me or something.

Anyway I am at level 30 so I am going to clean up some other stuff and then I'll probably marry Lydia and let her get her shop going. She has really had so many near deaths the poor thing could use a vacation.

You know really the whole forcing me to change companions thing ticks me off. I should be able to tell Lydia to wait at the fortress and that should.be good enough. I trust her I don't know or trust Serena. Speaking of course role playing wise. Lydia has nearly died for me many times. I don't know Serena from Adam's pet cat after all.

Keep Lydia at home making cash. Travel and fight with Serena. Give her every staff you get and keep them charged and watch her work her magic.

Speaking of staffs anyone use them much? I never have but since I started giving them to Serana and watching her use them I might make a staff wielding mage.

Didn't know that.
basically, give any follower *only* the weapon you want them to use, and take all the others.

My current toon is hand to hand only. Lydia kept getting in my way, so I took her sword and gave her a bow. Much better - she stays out of the melee now. It's also pretty cool to see someone rushing me and suddenly drop with an arrow in their head.

Marrying Lydia is easy. As soon as she's your housecarl (which is the only way to get her, iirc), that's it - just wear the amulet in front of her.

Is this game appropriate for me to play with my 10 year old daughter?
well,  people die (and you kill them). There might be some death animations (including a decapitation or two, although they are more comical than gruesome), but as far as sex/cursing, you won't find any.

This isn't something you play *with* someone though - 100% single player.

Actually you have to own Breezehome and you have to buy the amulet of Mara in Riften before you get the option.

I let her have bow and sword she uses both depending on the situation.

Ok thanks.  She really like the game Child of Light.   Which is actually pretty cool.

I went and got Lydia killed in some "boss fight" where I was dueling with a dark necromancer.  I can never remember the names.  She got smoked pretty quickly but I (barely) managed to outlast the guy.  F##king useless.

You can give her health potions and she'll use them. Some of those guys hit pretty hard. I always save before a boss fight for just such occasions.

I seem to remember that only *you* could kill Lydia (like with friendly fire.) Am I wrong?
