I've been wondering today if my morning song I drafted "Polly" fits in the politico channel. The description also said it was stories from the news, which the song is from a real event that was on the news. It just seems out of place.
The stories from the news bit was to give plausible deniability in case of a mod crackdown

I don't really understand, but I will pick something else for the category tomorrow.
I'll just pick another category. Scratch "Polly" from the Politico channel. I misunderstood it.

Tumbleweed Connection is a concept album based on the Old West and Americana

My Father's Gun - Elton John (Concept Concept)

Might as well add to the train wreck

Concept

Rd 255: A Favor House Atlantic by Coheed and Cambria

This isn’t just a concept album but a concept band. All of their albums are part of a series telling a sci fi story called The Amory Wars which the lead singer of the band has also put into novel form. Here’s a summary

Year of the Black Rainbow and Second Stage Turbine Blade narrate the struggle of Coheed Kilgannon and Cambria Kilgannon against Wilhelm Ryan, the Supreme Tri-Mage who launches a war campaign with the intended goal to rule over Heaven’s Fence.

So yeah I think this super nerdy #### fits right in.

But did they invent their own language to sing their songs in? There was a band that did that.

That’s incredible. Not that I’m aware of but I also don’t really listen to these albums. I just like a couple songs here and there. I’m not into that level of sci-fi fantasy stuff.

I can't remember what channel it's on, but I have listened to Grizzly Bear - Two Weeks so many times since this thing started.    Thanks to whomever drafted that!

But did they invent their own language to sing their songs in? There was a band that did that.
Ah, yes. The biggest post rock band I never got into, really.

@rockaction how you feeling after the shot? Noticed you weren't around much last night but maybe that was just avoid St. Paddys shenanigans
Thanks for asking, NV. Mild symptoms. More tired than anything, really, which seems to be the main complaint. Left arm a little sore. Really, not much to complain about, I just wasn't posting last night, partially due to that. Total avoidance of all St. Patty's shenanigans or could have just been resting after a large Irish-inspired dinner :bag: (no Irish here, but game for it).

Round 254.xx

Category: KP's Boneyard

Song: Disturbing The Peace

Artist: Death Angel

The band I was talking about yesterday. From the San Francisco area, which is possibly the home of thrash, really. I used to listen to this album all the time senior year of high school. Pretty varied, one of the most versatile thrash bands, from balladry to straight speed and power. This song brings a little funk then drops into straight thrash. Finally nominated for a Grammy last year, of all years, and that deep into their career. Sad COVID fact: They all caught it while touring Europe last spring when it first started there and one almost died after being in a coma for ten days or so. No bueno.

The whole album, Act III, is worth a listen for metalheads and bangers. "A Room With A View" is the big crossover/mainstream "hit" from it. "Veil Of Deception" comes acoustically out of left field, too. Still sounds metal.

255.8 or 12 - Third World - Try Jah Love  (Stevie Wonder Radio)

Stevie Wonder wrote and produced this song for Jamaican Pop Reggae group Third World in 1982.

It fits better here than in The Joint because it sounds more like a Stevie song than Reggae. The band's biggest hit was a cover of the Gamble & Huff song "Now That We Found Love" that wasn't particularly reggaesque either.

My dad's family was from Ireland, he and my mom went back there a few years before he died and met some relatives. I did lots of St. Paddy's parties in my younger years, either hosting or attending. I never did the big pub/club parties.

Over the last few years, my tradition was to go to a local brew pub that made a really good authentic Dry Irish Stout and just have a couple of those, low-key with Mrs. NV and/or my closest buddy.

About 3 years ago my wife brought a friend from work to our get together to introduce to my friend. Nothing really happened that night but it did about a year later and they are now living together and buying a house being built in the subdivision behind us (they move in September).

Of course, we weren't able to go to that pub (which has been a staple of Peterborough for 25 years) last year because of covid and then in February of this year they announced they were shutting down for good because of the affects of covid. Now, a GoFundMe was set up and over $65K was raised in a couple days by the community, at which point the owner said it would take $500K to keep it going, which makes me a bit skeptical it was just covid that caused so much loss...

In any case, it wasn't "my pub" that I go to with the guys on Fridays but we went there a dozen or so times a year as a couple or on double dates, it was more that kind of place. It was actually two restaurants in one space, on the left side "The Olde Stone" a traditional English inspired pub and on the right side "Hot Belly Mama's" a cajun inspired restaurant with real good food. They both served traditional English-style beer brewed in the basement (cask ales, stouts, bitters and the like).

I missed being able to go there yesterday/last year for a low key Irish beer and now I need a new St. Paddy's place post covid ("my pub" that is generally my age group crowd gets taken over by young rowdies and flips like six taps to Guinness for that one day of the year and good for them, take that $$$$).

Nice, man. Glad he got to do that. That must have been quite the trip. Almost all the people that I know that have made that trip loved it.

Aw, man, that's too bad. As for the losses, it may have been something more significant, but we'll never know exactly how month-to-month so many businesses were and one shutdown from COVID was all it took. So many cool places are now lost.

Nice!  I was listening to this last night while writing ideas down for a planned KP's Bonus Boneyard picks.

Aw, man, that's too bad. As for the losses, it may have been something more significant, but we'll never know exactly how month-to-month so many businesses were and one shutdown from COVID was all it took. So many cool places are now lost.
I expect (hope?) that bars and restaurants will rebound once demand ramps back up. Retail seems like it has a tougher row to hoe but maybe I'm just projecting my dislike of shopping.

The restaurant game is brutal but there never has been any shortage of people who want to try their hand. Some will survive and become part of the new landscape. Commercial rents will be at their lowest point in decades when things reopen which will lower the cost of entry.

But some beloved places are gone forever. We learned this morning that our favorite dim sum house has closed permanently. It was our go-to place for weekend brunch when the kids were growing up. It was perfect because there was zero downtime after you got seated and they had fish tanks to look at when the kids got bored. It was far from the best dim sum in town and the bathrooms were atrocious but it was probably the restaurant I've eaten at the most over the years. The guy who appeared to run things was a Chinese man a little older than me. Hope he cashed out ahead.
