Genrepalooza Presents: FG Radio - Tons of Lithium but very little Chill (1 Viewer)

Finished the shingles pretty quickly thanks to "the night watchman" passing by, and hopping on the roof and doing it for me. I get vertigo when I look down from high places, so I was dreading having to do the shingle that blew off near the top of the roof. A total of five needed replacing, and it is once again a palace.

Alexis Petridis of The Guardian took his shot at ranking Neil Young's albums 1-45.  It seems pretty much to form, 70s good, 80s bad, later mixed.  Sleeps with Angels and Le Noise are rated highly.  Harvest and Reactor back to back at #17 and #18 is kind of provocative I guess.
He didn't rank The Visitor. Is it so bad that it didn't deserve sharing space with the rest of Neil's work, or so forgettable that he forgot it existed?

Most of his tiers are more or less as I have them. I also have Harvest in the teens because it's inconsistent quality-wise and sound-wise, despite some very high peaks. I also mostly like Re*ac*tor, but it's not for everyone.

For my next pick I’m taking 4 yacht rock songs. Went down the funnest rabbit hole today (that’s what yo mama said).

I had no clue about this singer and song until I hit play and realized I have heard it dozens of times :bag:
That seems to be the case with a lot of Yacht Rock records.  The artists are relatively anonymous (although Benson was a well-known Jazz player before he crossed over) but the songs have gotten a lot of airplay over the years.

Sorry - have been delinquent here the past few days due to being slammed at work. Have to catch up a bunch and will try to do so tomorrow.

Round 18:

Yacht Rock channel

How Much I Feel -- Ambrosia

This extremely smooth and well-crafted ballad is perhaps the most extreme example of singer/songwriter/guitarist David Pack's recurring theme of obsession with past lovers.

How's your life been goin' on?
I've got a wife now
Years we've been going strong
Oh, no
There's just something that I've got to say
Sometimes when we make love
I still see your face

&

Damn.

MORE YACHT ROCK!!!

18.YM - Steal Away - Robbie Dupree

Yes, this has been widely panned as a blatant rip-off of my first Yacht Rock selection, but dangit, if you’re going to take a swing, aim high. Why not copy the greatest known song to man.

I always loved this jam.

Footnote: Pack doesn’t tour with the reunited Ambrosia because he’s all about Jesus now. Make of that what you will.

I don't want to draft this song, though it qualifies for Octane. But I saw a discussion the other day saying if it was a Def Leppard song in the 80s, a Kenny Chesney country song, or a Foo Fighters single, we would look at it and respect it as a great single, well written, radio beauty. With that in mind, take a listen and report back your feelings without giving away the song to others (or don't, I'm not your dad).

My wife loves this song.

My main issue with it is the dude is singing like he's on the crapper with constipation. I don't think that would have been the case with Joe Elliott, Kenny Chesney or Dave Grohl.
