Genrepalooza Presents: FG Radio - Tons of Lithium but very little Chill (18 Viewers)

Shade45 shut out today, but several people haven't picked rounds 17 and 18 yet. The Bridge, Yacht Rock and Turbo was one of the worst possible draws for Shade45 on a board full of football fans mostly in their 40s and 50s.
My problem was I thought Shade had to be "current" Rap/hiphop?  Is this the case? Or can I go back 2 or 3 years?

I'm usually a couple of years behind things...

Eephus is thinking. I'm supposed to get overruled and strenuously object, your honor, much like Demi Moore in A Few Good Men.

But alas, 'twas not to be.

Not so secretly, I hope Tasker drafts. That is all.

It is whatever you say It is
If I wasn't, then why would I say It is?
In the paper, the news, every day It is
I don't know, it's just the way It is

Hov34, I thought the same thing about Shade. All of my current hip hop knowledge is at least three years old.

Heck, I think 2012 is current right about now.

I actually listen to Shade45 when the kids (teens) are in the car with me. There’s stuff from the past 5 years or so in it from what I recall.

I don't want to draft this song, though it qualifies for Octane. But I saw a discussion the other day saying if it was a Def Leppard song in the 80s, a Kenny Chesney country song, or a Foo Fighters single, we would look at it and respect it as a great single, well written, radio beauty. With that in mind, take a listen and report back your feelings without giving away the song to others (or don't, I'm not your dad).

I don’t think I ever saw what they looked like. I like them even less now.

Great minds think alike, I had just threw the dice in another tab.  Yours were better since I rolled Holly again.

First Wave (80s alt)

The Bridge (mellow classic rock)

Road Trip Radio

Sinatra (standards by Sinatra and others)
I remember first wave playing a lot a late 70s stuff also, which makes sense based on its title and in reference to new wave.

I will fully admit to being a follower for stuff I am not 100% on.  Stuff like Shade45 I was eyeing up, but hoping to get another selection or two for so I got a gauge on how current to go.  Same with today and First Wave - mostly new wave like title suggests, or any alternative from the 80s?   Don't have these channels, so not familiar, and I don't want to be that guy asking 2x per round about definitions of stations.  (I am already "that guy" in one current draft).   Figured I would take a road trip song and see where the day takes us on the First Wave.

I'm interested in hearing things I'm not familiar with (although to be honest I hate most of the modern rap my step son  listens to - get off my lawn!!!) but I'm the same way as too staying in my lane for picks. I'm not trying to find things that fit into categories - I'm picking things I know and like within categories.

First Wave says 80s alternative - but from when I had Satellite I remember it being more geared towards late 70 artists that preceded the 80s new wave acts. I'm not sure what the thoughts here would be on spotlighting so I won't list the bands as examples.

First Wave is very late 70s and 80s alternative.  On Friday or Saturday nights they do "Safety Dance" which is extended/dance mixes of the songs.  It's quite enjoyable.

Here is my "Safety Dance" mix from Spotify - DO NOT Click if you don't want spoilers/Spotlighting

I need to catch up here. I’ve been a bit pre-occupied this week. Anyone kind enough to give me a run down of what W, Th and F categories have been?

I've actually got the spreadsheet up to date again after a bunch of slacking myself:

13/14 Choices for this pair: Jam On , Symphony Hall, Comes Alive!, Sinatra (Standards)

15/16 Choices for this pair: The Prince Channel, BPM, XMU, 70s on 7

17/18 Choices for this pair: The Bridge, Turbo, Yacht Rock, Shade45

19/20 Choices for this pair: First Wave, The Bridge, Road Trip Radio, Sinatra (standards)

I feel like I got Rickrolled.  I intensely dislike the listing, repetitive nature of it.  And it's treacly.

And then there's the constipation issue.

The categories for the rounds are noted on the spreadsheet.  The category definitions are in the first post.  Lord knows, I need them.

It's okay. Never understood the hate for these guys. I wouldn't buy an album or pay to see them but don't mind hearing their songs now and then. I probably prefer them to post Pyromania Def Leppard

Round 17  -  The Bridge  -  Warren Zevon  -  Veracruz

I wouldn't normally put Zevon in the mellow category, but this is just lovely.

Round 18  -  The Bridge  -  England Dan and John Ford Coley  -  Nights Are Forever Without You

My roommate my senior year of college had this album.  I still hear the skip the record had when that song comes on.
