Genrepalooza Presents: FG Radio - Tons of Lithium but very little Chill (3 Viewers)

Hit the bull, win a steak.

"Anything that flies that far oughta have a stewardess on it, if you ask me."
The bar scenes in the movie were filmed at Mitch's Tavern in Raleigh. It is located right across the street from NC State. It closed for two years during covid, and it just reopened in May. It has been around for decades. I'm glad it reopened.

And now my son and the other kids are doing the Cupid Shuffle
What is the Cupid Shuffle? All I remember is the Stones's Harlem Shuffle, if we're bringing it back around to the conversation before. Funny I remember that about the Stones, but not their main career arcs and peaks.

Yeah yeah yeah do the Harlem Shuffle

A threefer of Hip Hop remixes

581a.  Eric B. and Rakim - Paid in Full - Seven Minutes Of Madness - The Coldcut Remix

Chalk pick from the golden age of sampling featuring Ofra Haza, Don Pardo, James Brown, Lyn Collins, Humphrey Bogart, Buffalo Bob and Ronald Reagan.

581b. Das EFX - Real Hip Hop - Pete Nice remix

The original is raw and funky but the remix gets the song past the velvet rope and into the club.

581c.  The Beastie Boys - Hey Ladies - Paul Nice remix

The major changes are a brand new fat and funky bassline and some grunt samples

This was definitely on my short list after doing some reading and thinking.

Never liked Das EFX. I really dig this.

Love the bass line in this one.

I’m sitting in the waiting room of an emergency vet because our cat with eye issues started having mucus and liquid dripping out of one of them and he wouldn’t let us examine him. It’s going to be about three hours before a doctor can see him.
How's your kitty?

How's your kitty?
The ER doc gave him some painkillers and eye drops and told us to come back in the morning when their ophthalmologist would be in. So we did (I got all of 3 hours of sleep). The ophthalmologist diagnosed him with a perforated cornea in the right eye and dry eye in the left eye (it is also probably in the right eye but didn't register on the test because of the moisture from the perforated cornea). So his constant flareups and ulcers in both his eyes for the past 5+ years were from dry eye, not herpes as believed by the other vets that have seen him, which would explain why the previous treatments were never a permanent solution.

Dry eye in cats is very rare, so our cat is a unicorn. The doc said he sees about one case of dry eye per year in cats compared with several per week in dogs.

He then went over the medical vs. surgical options. For both the perforated cornea and the dry eye, the success rate of surgery is far better than the success rate of medical therapy. That plus our cat being extremely difficult when we try to give him medication of any sort meant the choice was easy. He had the surgery today, one procedure in which the cornea was patched and implants to treat the dry eye were put in both eyes. It is very expensive but my mom is going to help us pay for it. We are going to pick him up sometime in the next hour.

Complicating this further is that we leave on Friday to visit my mother at her summer home on Cape Cod, which she is selling so this is our last chance to be there (though she will rent on the Cape and have us up in future summers). Most likely we are going to have to bring the cat with us, as he will still be needing his post-surgery meds and it is likely to be too much for our pet sitter to handle by herself. The doc said the car ride should not be an issue. If we do this, our other two cats would stay behind and be handled by the pet sitter.

Round 582a

Song: Get By (Remix Side A)

Artists: Talib Kweli ft. Jay Z and Busta Rhymes

Round 582b

Category: Remixes Not Remasters

Song: Grindin' (Remix #2)

Artists: Clipse, Sean Paul, Bless, Kardinal Offishall

Rd 583: Big Bird by Eddie Floyd (Public Trans)

Was thinking about taking this for the Memphis playlist but thought it might be a better fit for when this was rolled. It was written while Floyd was at Heathrow waiting on a plane that needed emergency maintenance. Floyd was worried he would miss his flight back to the States for the funeral of Otis Redding.
I already drafted this song for the Soul Town station.

So we’re taking the cat to Cape Cod. Should be … interesting.

Round 583

Mac Attack

Hypnotized - Fleetwood Mac  (Fleetwood Mac)

and

I'm So Afraid - Fleetwood Mac  (Fleetwood Mac)

check out Lindsey's solo of this song live in '76. It starts around the middle and goes to the end of the song. 🎸
I don't know all of Welch's FM songs but Hypnotized is probably my third favorite behind Future Games and Sentimental Lady.

I'm So Afraid is a gem -- possibly the best non-famous song from their peak years. I included it in my 1975 countdown

Round 583:

Fleetwood Mac

A. Say You Love Me -- Fleetwood Mac

Every second is a joy.

B. Trouble -- Lindsey Buckingham

The lyrics are full of guilt and paranoia but the music is as blissful as it gets.

C. Message to My Girl -- Split Enz

One of Neil Finn's best from his first band. And it probably would have fit on the Mirage album, which came out around the same time.

D. I Don't Wanna Fight -- Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

I believe this is Mike Campbell's only lead vocal on a Heartbreakers record.

Round 583

Song: Love This Town

Artist: Dizzee Rascal, Teddy Sky

About Dizzee's native city. A bit David Guetta-ish, but cool if you like that sort of thing (I do). The next song on the album is an utter banger about Houston. Too bad we don't have a category about that city. Heh. H-Town ft. Bun B

Anyway, here's some lyrics to "Love This Town"

I go hard in the city of London
I get a lot of love, all smiles when I step in the function
I'm a local boy, I'm from the east side
Now I'm jet setting, I'm reppin', I'll do it worldwide...

Where should I begin?
Might see me in the west side getting it in
Might see me on the north side getting the trim
Southside to the river in a race car having a spin, I just win

And I'm never gonna lose with the city to guide me
Got the vibe of the city inside me and the streets are lively

I’m neutral on Rush. I don’t love them because - vocals, but I don’t hate them because the music rocks and it was my first concert. Marillion was the opening band so that’s the answer to who was the first major live band seen by dr. octopus.
