Genrepalooza Presents: FG Radio - Tons of Lithium but very little Chill (3 Viewers)

All right, I just went through the last 40 pages to catch up on categories and see what I still needed for Beatles shtick.  It's just a few!  :oldunsure:   Thanks to simey for selecting a Beatles song in the "songs that make you cry" category so I could ✔️that one off.  Some of these will be easier than others...

Round 550 - Fleetwood Mac

Round 551 – Nonstop Party Mixtape

Round 555 – Bring in Da Funk

Round 560 – Patriotic Songs

Round 562 – Radio, Radio

Round 564 – Jerry and Carlos

Round 565 – Memphis

Round 567 – I See London, I See France

Round 576 – All Goth Radio

Round 577 – Emo Imo

Round 581 – Remixes not remasters

Round 585 – The medium is the message

Round 588 – Vocal Chords

Round 589 – Associated Acts

Round 592 – Botany 101

Round 593 – Artie and Paul in the Morning

Round 595 – Beezle and the Bubs

Round 596 – Emerald Isle

Round 599 – IP Theft

Round 600 – Music Calendar

Round 601 – Pride

Round 550 - Fleetwood Mac

Hey, Stevie Nicks claimed to have co-written George's "Here Comes the Moon"!  This is an easy category!  Except...I already took that one in another category.  :kicksrock:

Thank god for Dave Mason.  He played guitar on some of All Things Must Pass, but I'll save those songs in case I need them.  Instead, I'll draft the Dave Mason song where George played guitar!

Dave Mason - If You've Got Love

Round 551 – Nonstop Party Mixtape

Sorry.  If you've been to a Paul show, you know.

The Beatles - Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da

Round 555 – Bring in Da Funk

James Brown - Something

Round 560 – Patriotic Songs

Paul McCartney - Freedom

Round 562 – Radio, Radio

Could I get a clarification on this one?  Does the word radio need to be in the title, or is it something else?

Round 564 – Jerry and Carlos

SKIP FOR NOW NEEDS RESEARCH GAH

Round 565 – Tennessee and such

About the farm they stayed at in Tennessee while recording the record:

Paul McCartney and Wings - Junior's Farm

Round 567 – I See London, I See France

Wings - London Town

More tomorrow.

Round 562 – Radio, Radio

Could I get a clarification on this one?  Does the word radio need to be in the title, or is it something else?
Anything in the title. Songs about the radio suffice. Songs that mention the radio in a significant way suffice. In other words, a casual mention to something like say..."I saw the news today -- oh boy" would probably qualify for The Medium Is The Message, I think. Or nobody will say differently. Similar lines, only about the radio, would qualify for Radio, Radio.

I thought about that line for Medium is the Message but am certain that song will be long gone.  Thanks for the clarification on radio.  I had an obscure George song in mind but now see I already took it in Margaritaville.  Damn.  Will need more thought.

Oh damn, this is easy!  Not really about radio, but there's that word right there.  Would also work for Beezle and the Bubs but I have another in mind for that:

Round 562 - Radio, Radio

George Harrison - Devil's Radio

I commend your commitment to the schtick

:)  Most of it is not schtick but songs I like anyway.  I do like this one.  "Freedom" isn't the best song, but I don't hate it and feel he was sincere, and I don't think it's worse than pretty much any other patriotic song.

It was pitched as:

Radio Radio (songs about the radio, records, cassettes or streaming services)

The word "radio" does not need to be in the title.

We kept Patriotic Songs but booted Kidz Bop.

Jerry Garcia and/or The Grateful Dead have covered (live at least) a few Beatles songs.

Round 600

Excellent night on our patio with @plinko, his amazing partner/former FBGoth (i think she was actually the second FBG I met in person all the way back in 2003 or 2004), top-shelf booze, and an all-goth/industrial playlist.

A.  I Walk the Line - Alien Sex Fiend (Goth)

B. Bloodletting (The Vampire Song) - Concrete Blonde (Goth)

C. The Killing Jar - Siouxsie & The Banshees (Goth)
He probably isn't on your patio now, but Hello to JuddZilla. Does he still live in San Francisco?

If he were still he at my house, he would say "Hi" right back.  Alas, we're old and they left by 11 pm.  Zilla moved back to Baltimore at the start at the pandemic but he and the missus are returning to the Bay Area for good in August.  I'll be a  :sadbanana: .

Ya never know what the future holds. He/they still may end up back in Baltimore in the future.

I will be back east quite a bit, I still work out of Landover/DC/VACO..

For now..

Been busting my hump for months to try and get all my kits and equipment ready.  Hopefully once I settle in out there, I'll have time to catch up with my friends here and maybe do the dumb pointless countdown I was working on

Miss you most, simers!!  Hope you are keeping well

Yeah, very briefly. I mentioned when the category first rolled that he was in FM when I saw them open for CSN in 1994. Nicks and Buckingham weren’t in the band at the time and C. McVie was but wasn’t touring, so only Fleetwood and J. McVie were there from the most famous lineup.

So he was really only in the touring version of that band - kind of like Mike Campbell now. Got it.

Has anyone ever rerecorded songs more than Dave Mason? Maybe some old country or blues artist, but Mason must have 500 versions of "All Along The Watchtower" and "We Just Disagree" floating around.

Round 601

A.  South Bronx - Boogie Down Productions (NYC)

B. Boy from New York City - Manhattan Transfer (NYC)

That second one may be one of my least favorite songs ever, made worse by having to hear it every time I watched wrestling on TBS in the early/mid 80s.  For some reason, Jimmy "Boogie Woogie Man" Valiant used it as his entrance music.  The Road Warriors had Iron Man, Hulk Hogan had Eye of the Tiger, but Jimmy Valiant picked one of the least bad-### songs ever made.  Odd choice.

He was doing this in the 70s. After his falling out with his original label, he re-recorded a few of his songs from those records on albums for his new label.

As to why he’s done it since then, no idea.

Round 581 – Remixes not remasters

Going to skip this one for now.  Certainly there are remixes I could use, but I don't seem them fitting into what the playlist seems to be right now.

Round 585 – The medium is the message

George Harrison - Brainwashed

Paul has a couple of songs that might seem more on point, but I prefer this song.  It's the title track from George's final album, with the album cover portraying television brainwashing the masses.  The song lyrics discuss many different brainwashing agents, including the media and the press.

Round 588 – Vocal Chords

The Beatles - If I Fell

Gimme.

Round 589 – Associated Acts

Traveling Wilburys - Heading for the Light

Gimme x2.

Round 592 – Botany 101

Ringo Starr - English Garden

Ringo sighting!  This song has some cute backstory.  From my thread:  "This song was composed in part as a tribute to Paul, and Ringo even used a portion of “Let ‘Em In” in the song, asking for Paul’s permission first and giving Paul and Linda a songwriting credit.  Also taking a cue from Paul, it contains a charming little hidden track starting at 2:18 called “I Really Love Her” and on which Ringo plays all the instruments.  The song contains references to Ringo’s wife Barbara and their dog Buster, and includes Barbara’s voice, which is how it fits into this very special edition of Beatles’s wives.  It’s a sweet and Ringo-y song that scores a few bonus points for the Paul connections, too."

Round 601

Category: Songs About NYC

Song: New York City

Artist: Cub

Cuddlecore!

I have seen Cub live in case anybody is wondering if I like the band or just found the song. They played in New Haven at the infamous Tune-Inn back when I was in college and way into pop punk. They were as delightful as this song. And as twee.

I believe They Might Be Giants covered this song, as opposed to the other way around.
