Genrepalooza Presents: FG Radio - Tons of Lithium but very little Chill (7 Viewers)

Okay, I think the spreadsheet is all caught up. Somebody filled in the past few rounds and I cleaned up seven and eight. You can probably make it not so public now.

13.8 or 12 - Jean Sibelius - Violin Concerto in D Minor Op.47: III Allegro, ma non tanto (Classical)

Sibelius lived into his 90s but only ever wrote one concerto for any instrument.  It's notorious among violinists as one of the hardest pieces ever written.  I'll spotlight the third movement because it's the shortest at around eight minutes but the entire work is astounding.

Link is to a 1996 recording bye the Chicago Symphony with Maxim Vengerov as the soloist.

Another band I draft a lot, but I will at least drop something different in here, and instead of more Strange Trails, I will take an obsession from the first album:

XMU

12.xx:  LORD HURON - SHE LIT A FIRE

Link

When last I saw her she was dancing all alone

Perhaps my chance was then, I'll never know

I'll search the world until there's no place left to go

And if she leaves it, I will follow, yes, I will follow

She lit a fire

But now she's in my every thought

Yeah, I've got to put a little metal into the live mix.   After a few whiskeys I decided it's not a live station without some Randy Rhoads..

COMES ALIVE!

13.01:  OZZY OSBOURNE - MR. CROWLEY

Gotta be done.  My preferred version of the song, and Mr and Mrs KP's wedding song.

COMES ALIVE!

14.01:   RADIOHEAD - TRUE LOVE WAITS

I was going to draft this :(

Round 15:

70s on 7 channel

Magic -- Pilot

I had this all queued up as my #20 song from 1975, until I double checked and found its album and single release were '74. I must have put it in my pile of '75 stuff after seeing a clip of it on a 1975 TV show. So I'm gonna showcase it now. The chorus is insanely memorable and the guitars and synths are so gloriously '70s.

Pilot is actually not a one-hit wonder. They had a second hit, January, but it's not nearly as good as this. Bassist/singer David Paton and guitarist Ian Bairnson went on to play on most of the Alan Parsons Project records.

@Dr. Octopus @Pitchfork I will be happy to create and maintain the '70s on 7 Spotify playlist.

Love this!

It’s always fascinated me that this band had two major hits in the US that sound nothing alike. Different style, different lead singer, and 5 years apart.

I remember that song well. I was in high school when it hit the airwaves. You're right that it sounds very different than the one I drafted. I like both songs.
I always loved their album cover for FM Live with the stereo receiver gatefold.

16.8 or 12 - Prince & The Revolution - Girls & Boys (Prince)

The other day Mrs. Eephus was singing the "I love you baby, I love you so much" chorus while watering the plants.  She was probably addressing it to the dog instead of me but after 33 weeks of shutdown together, I'll take it.
