Genrepalooza Presents: FG Radio - Tons of Lithium but very little Chill (3 Viewers)

So we have a lot of feral cats in the neighborhood that my wife, and others, feed and take care of. In the last 14 months she has trapped 5 of them herself. 2 weren't feral just abandoned so she had 2 friends adopt those. The 3 ferals were TNRd.

While I was working today she hooked up with some local cat hunters on Facebook. Her and her new friends have been out placing traps around the area for the last 2 hours. Caught 2 just on our porch and at least 2 more. They will get flea treatments,a basic checkup and then be TNRd.

I'm going to press my luck tonight and hope the dice don't pick Johnny Cash. I'm hoping to make it until Sunday before rearranging the tables in Dayton to accommodate Krista's dinner party.

Funny, I thought about picking him but wasn't sure what we would actually count as his last album
I had a similar thought about Jimi and a couple others I think had posthumous albums.
I chose one from George Harrison's posthumous album, but because he had put together the whole album and left instructions for Jeff Lynne and Dhani of exactly how to complete it.  But for others (Leonard Cohen, Townes Van Zandt, Nick Drake), I haven't included any mish-moshes of unreleased works that were released after their deaths.

CHEMISTRY 101

354.YM - A Passage to Bangkok - Rush

Our first stop is in Bogota
To check Colombian fields
The natives smile and pass along
A sample of their yield

Sweet Jamaican pipe dreams
Golden Acapulco nights
Then Morocco, and the East
Fly by morning light

We're on the train to Bangkok
Aboard the Thailand Express
We'll hit the stops along the way
We only stop for the best

Wreathed in smoke in Lebanon
We burn the midnight oil
The fragrance of Afghanistan
Rewards a long day's toil

Pulling into Kathmandu
Smoke rings fill the air
Perfumed by a Nepal night
The Express gets you there

Check out the hook as my DJ revolves it:

Harmonicapalooza  -  Suicide Blonde  -  INXS

Chem 101  -  Desire -  U2

Chem 101  -  Captain Jack  -  Billy Joel

Captain Jack will get you high tonight
And take you to your special island
Captain Jack will get you by tonight
Just a little push, and you'll be smilin'
Ladies' Sewing Circle and Literature Society  -  My Ride's Here  -  Warren Zevon

Shelley and Keats were out in the street
And even Lord Byron was leaving for Greece
While back at the Hilton, last but not least
Milton was holding his sides

Saying, "You bravos had better be ready to fight
Or we'll never get out of East Texas tonight
The trail is long and the river is wide
And my ride's here"

I heard the first Anti-Lockdown single (with Clapton) on Spotify when it first came out. Ignoring the politics, it's a horrible song.
Hoo boy. I was unaware of that until this morning. Clapton joining in and all. The new songs I've heard were indeed terrible, politics aside.

I couldn't help but even blanch a bit at the apolitical titles. They seemed like a joke or seemed exactly what one British paper subtitled its review when it said it was reminiscent of the meme "old man yelling at cloud."

Okay, first song off of a first album that was best of the aughts, maybe. As soon as they dropped out of the acoustic, breathy intro and launched into their angular and piercing electric guitars, I had a feeling we'd hit something special. The lyrics I've included below are also probably some of my favorite lyrics in all of rock. Narratively inconclusive and vague, yet concretely placed images and emotions.

Round 355.xx

Category: Radio Alpha

Song: Jacqueline

Artist: Franz Ferdinand

Jacqueline was seventeen and working at the desk when Iver peered above a spectacle
Forgot that he had wrecked a girl

Sometimes these eyes forget the face they're peering from
When the face they peer upon
Well, you know that face as I do
And how in the return of the gaze
She can return you the face that you are staring from

First song, first album, it's part anthem, part mission statement, all guitars... what a way to launch a band.

All the sniffling indie kids.
Hold steady.
All the clustered up clever kids.
Hold steady.
I got bored when I didn't have a band.
So I started a band.
We're gonna start it with a positive jam.
Hold steady.

I owe surfing and rude boy picks, though I'm not sure what rounds and days those were. I don't know that it's all that crucial and don't want to mess up the sheet if it's problematic to add on at this point. Just give me a go ahead or a "no," and I'll adjust accordingly.

Just post them, and I'll fit them in to the spreadsheet where it makes sense.

Got to make hay while the planets are in alignment

355.8 - Roxy Music -  If There Is Something  (Radio Alpha)

355.12 - Roxy Music - Avalon  (Radio Omega)

It took a decade to get from their debut as part of Rock's avant garde to the sophisticated makeout music of their swansong but both these musical strands (pun intended) were always present in their sound.

They've reunited a couple of times and except for Eno seem to be on good terms but they haven't recorded any new material for going on 40 years.

Very cool, I am going to follow suit

Radio Alpha

Rd 355.A: The Bells of Rhymney by The Byrds

Radio Omega

Rd 355.O:  Full Circle by The Byrds

That's two songs drafted from the final Byrds album, of which the general consensus was that it was a disaster.

When I finally listened to it last year, I didn't think it was a trainwreck like has been implied, but it's kind of dull in spots.

I drafted both of them lol. I like pretty much everything Byrds though.
