Save it, there will be time for moreI thought up an interesting gimmick for an all-time albums draft yesterday and planned to post them this morning but NV beat me to the line.![]()
Agreed. We'll generally always have time for more. I'm just curious, though. I love some of the intricacies of the drafts.Save it, there will be time for more
I'm good saving the 2010s draft for later, I just want something on the main board that doesn't make me want to post something and earn a lifetime ban on another account.Eephus said:I thought up an interesting gimmick for an all-time albums draft yesterday and planned to post them this morning but NV beat me to the line.![]()
I'm so close. I think I'm there, really. This is beggaring belief.I'm good saving the 2010s draft for later, I just want something on the main board that doesn't make me want to post something and earn a lifetime ban on another account.
Since my draft has already been drafted, it's this, or my 70s 90s 10s thing or re roll in here. Or I call Crosseyed a dumb#### and never come backThis is what i had in Notepad
The Pick a Pair / Half Decade Album Draft
1. Drafters select TWO albums each round from a single artist but they must have been released in different half decades.
2. Half decades start with zeros and fives, e.g. 1980-84, 2005-09. The entire 1950s and 2020s are considered eligible half decades.
3. The rules create some scarcity and prevent every Beatles and Led Zeppelin album from being drafted. Artists with extended runs of excellence gain an advantage as well as those whose prime luckily landed on the cusp of a new half-decade.
Optional Nerd achievement points for the most and least half-decades represented, as well as blocking out previously drafted artists. Write-ups comparing and contrasting the two albums are always welcome.

I vote for the easiest. But try to refrain from that fishing trip disguised as an earnest comeback. I'm not buying any of it. I'm skeptical™Since my draft has already been drafted, it's this, or my 70s 90s 10s thing or re roll in here. Or I call Crosseyed a dumb#### and never come back![]()

Daft Punk, Neil Young, Big Star, Kanye, Velvet Underground, Spoon, Mudhoney. Mainly those bands. You've probably seen me mention them if you've been around on the boards. I've taken out or bumped threads about four of those bands. What's everyone been listening to lately?

It's really all I talk about anymore here. It's the only thing that seems to bring the joy, as it were.
But back to the bands: Those have pretty much dominated the past week of mine. Big Star is pretty influential the past week of my life, just unspoken. "O, My Soul" has been running through my head, as has the riff/solo before the bridge (?) of September Gurls.
I was singing "Pretty Maids All In A Row" the other day. I'm pretty sure I mentioned in a thread once that it was our eighth grade song, which, come to think of it, was a lot more poignant than our prom theme, which was "Without You" by Mötley Crüe.Also people can laugh but Henley, Eagles, Seger and Jackson Brown. They all remind me of late summer, early fall. It is a beautiful time here in Michigan.
What's everyone been listening to lately?
Loved Poison in eighth grade, too. And Van Halen. But I also dug the Eagles, man. Dug it.I really liked Crue and Poison when I was about 17-18. It was a short lived stint but it was the music I played before every HS party my senior year. Literally not a care in the world and just being a total moron.
Eephus for Orpheus and Easop. It all has a ring to it, I tell you.the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra.
The Eagles' vibe (notice I said vibe and not the plural which needs retiring) still works for me. Van Halen a little less and Poison waaay less.Loved Poison in eighth grade, too. And Van Halen. But I also dug the Eagles, man. Dug it.
Why do we give up our hearts to the past?
And why must we grow up so fast?
And all you wishing well fools with your fortunes
Someone should send you a rose
With love from a friend
Nice to hear from you again
And the storybook comes to a close
Gone are the ribbons and bows
Things to remember places to go
Pretty maids all in a row
All in a row...
Van Halen no longer really works for me, either. Poison stopped working for me in tenth grade. Van Halen stuck around much longer, though. The Eagles' vibe (notice I said vibe and not the plural which needs retiring) still works for me. Van Halen a little less and Poison waaay less.

Diver Down!
I refuse to even look at the slander you have surely postedThe Eagles are playing live shows again. Not high energy
So that's where the Trumpeter Swan (E.B. White book, for those that might miss the reference) went to retire for the first minute twenty. Hmm...The Eagles are playing live shows again. Not high energy

Are you going or am I?
Along with my movie selections lately, I seem to be reverting back to HS or before and metaling it up. Did a re-listen of all the early Megadeth and Maiden albums. Been spinning a bit of Badmoterfinger too.Ilov80s said:What's everyone been listening to lately?
Early Megadeth and Maiden was a favorite of my friend Brian's, who would go on to be a professional drummer. I can remember the days of Eddy and Megadeth's attempt to re-create an Eddy-like character on their album covers and posters. In between that, I listened to the new Lorde, Chvrches, and Lord Huron albums.
Whoa. The one with the sax? You are nothing if not diverse, I'll say that, NV.This is going to sound like a hot take or trolling post and if I read it, I would probably think the same but... my ultimate judge of what music I care to ever listen to again, is my ongoing "Favourites" playlist, which I constantly add to and subtract from in order to curate that timeless NV feeling and based on that, my favourite Eagles associated song of all time is...
You Belong To The City
I find almost all of Hotel California dreadfully boring. And I think The Long Run is mostly a trainwreck. (In the City is great, though.)If I had to pick an Eagles song, it would probably be "The Last Resort"
We're now in that time of year where I'm listening to a lot of Survivor podcasts in advance of the new season.Ilov80s said:What's everyone been listening to lately?
.This sent me down the Wikipedia wormhole and I found out Vince Gill is a current member of the Eagles. I've listened to a fair bit of 90s country lately too, it was what I listened to at the time.
I never liked Gill back then but listening back, his stuff aged better than most and it seems like he's had a pretty cool career and life (Married to Amy Grant, does charity work with the Nashville Predators, excellent golfer, country music hall of fame, member of the Eagles).
Yes, and I'm majorly into Outlaw Man and Bitter Creek on side 2.I have to admit side 1 of Desperado is extremely solid.

For the last week I've been listening to Amythyst Kiah. She is playing at the Merlefest next weekend, and I'd never heard of her before, so I've been giving her an early listen. I like her music.Ilov80s said:What's everyone been listening to lately?
It's good to see you too, rock. This week has been crummy. Wilma the Wagon was having some issues, and the mechanic that worked on her put in a bad part for the second time, and he refused to believe that it was a bad distributor again. He tried to convince me and himself that my car takes 93 octane, and I even showed him that in my owners manual it says it takes 87. He got animated with me and yelled. His wife works behind the counter, and since he was too hard headed and hot headed to listen, I explained to her. She said she would talk to him. She called yesterday and he is putting in another distributor on Monday. Hopefully it is from a different manufacturer, and it is a good one.Hey, simey, good to see you. You are missed. Sending vibes out for Wilma. I hope he's not just trying to use the same part or something or that it's a deeper problem where something else is throwing the distributor off (I know absolutely nothing about cars. My shop class consisted of my friend rebuilding the lawnmower engine we were supposed to take apart and rebuild). It's good to see you too, rock. This week has been crummy.
