Genrepalooza Presents: FG Radio - Tons of Lithium but very little Chill (3 Viewers)

I can take the next playlist now that the 2022 mid-year draft is winding down.  NV started that thread but hasn't posted at FBG since July 10. Hope everything's alright.

Round 596:

Artie and Paul in the Morning

A. Bridge Over Troubled Water -- Simon & Garfunkel

Two covers have been drafted, but not the original.

B. Mother and Child Reunion -- Paul Simon

Long before Graceland, Simon was interested in exploring different rhythms.

C. Break Away -- Art Garfunkel

We seem to discuss yacht rock a lot on this board, yet this song, a prime example of it, never seems to come up.

D. Trio

Love Is a Rose -- Linda Ronstadt

There are only so many chances to pick Neil songs these days.

Slightly Early Dice Roll For Tomorrow and Thursday, Rounds 597 and 598

134 - 423 - 252 - 409

Tennessee and its Cities (fourth roll) (with that emphasis on Memphis)

Songs That Make You Cry (third roll!) (songs that make you cry)

Art Rock, Post Rock, Kraut Rock, Radiohead (fifth roll) (one of those genres or Radiohead)

Short Skirt, Long Jacket (songs about clothes) (sixth roll - last chance)

596.  Bow Wow Wow - Prince of Darkness (Beezel)

Wherein the devil seduces a 15 year old singer

Annabella, Annabella
Annabella Lwin
You are so dark
So dark as sin
So open the door and let Satan in
For the Prince of Darkness
You are sin

Nah, that's just a bummer of a song.

eta* I had picked something for Artie and Paul, but it was too much of a bummer for me.

It's not worthy of a separate thread but I'm genuinely bummed by yesterday's breakup of comedy team Desus & Mero, probably moreso than I would be by the end of any current band (members' deaths excluded).

My daughter @ditkaburgers and I have been watching Desus & Mero together since shortly after she moved out in 2016. She'd come upstairs to watch the shows (first on Viceland and later on Showtime) and after she got a TV, I'd go down to her place. We'd always fall behind on the new content but binged to catch up.  Occasionally Mrs. Eephus would join us but she never thought it was as hilarious as we did.

D&M's show was nothing original, it was just two guys from the Bronx talking about video clips with a celebrity interview at the end. But it brought us together and made us laugh.  The old show on Vice was four nights a week with grade C/D guests.  After they got more popular and moved to Showtime, the budgets and guests got bigger and the comedy was toned down a little, although it was still pretty raunchy. The show was down to only a half hour on Thursdays this season but we still managed to fall behind. We'd just caught up to next to last episode on Sunday before the news of their split came out.

As most of you know, my family is Black. It probably sounds pompous but I loved the show because it connected me to the culture of my kids. I didn't get all of the references but lowbrow humor is pretty universal and I learned some stuff along the way.

You don’t sound pompous, imo what you sound like is a great dad .  👍

I mentioned this category the other day and now it manifests itself. Hmmm….
You unearthed it. Think that's crazy? How about three out of four rolls for Songs That Make You Cry? That's not exactly high probability there. I better check these dice. Supposed to be random.

Another song that had covers drafted before the original. I had to double check because I was surprised the original was still out there.
The White Stripes cover is the only cover of Dolly's song. The other two Jolene's are totally different songs.  Just glancing at the google sheet, it does look like three covers of Jolene are on there.

Jolene is a very musical name.  It rhymes with 2360 words although most of the long ones are chemical compounds.
Jolene
Jolene
Jolene and dexedrine
Been up all night just to say that cocktail name

Or like someone I know rapped once

We got the -ines the -cets the -ols
(Know what I'm saying?)
I gots the means the jets the balls
(Know what I'm saying?)

I don’t think Fleetwood Mac should be on there.

ETA: should be the Cranberries’ Dreams
I'm assuming that k4 accidentally put in Dreams by FM yesterday instead of the Cranberries. I know k4 is not a fan of FM, and this has nothing do with anything really, but yesterday I had an MRI done, and they gave me some headphones to listen to music. The MRI lasted as long as five songs (and some short commercial type chatter) coming through my headphones, and song #3 was Dreams by Fleetwood Mac.  :tinfoilhat:

Was the MRI for anything serious? What was the tube for?

I hate MRIs. I hope I don't spend much time in them in the near future.

If I type "Dreams" into Spotify, the first song that comes up is Cranberries and the second is Fleetwood Mac.  I jusr accidenrally hir the second one in rhe same way I accidenrally hir the "r" when I mean the "t" somerimes.
