Today's I need to listen to more of them. I was familiar with Mott The Hopple, but since this is the 2nd sound that got my attention and wasn't already in my library I think they warrant a deeper dive. I suspect my never vetting Cream is mainly an Eric Clapton is a tool sorta thing, but I've never let douche bags get in the way of listening to their music.
Today's so that's what those sounds are. Good ones at that.
Today's winner. Great description of the song too. It resonated with me since I'm not a huge Radiohead fan, but love this song.
They got squeezed on my list, but I'm glad they made someone's cut.
Today's 2nd best song and while I appreciate the music that it led to I just can't stand Ozzy. Never have.
Banger - love PJ. In a list of favorites I could see convincing myself putting this above Paranoid Android. I can listen to this over and over again...and may have done just that last night.
Cream is as much about Jack Bruce, if not more, than Clapton, which to me is a good thing. Clearly Clayton’s guitar work is outstanding (as is Ginger Baker’s fierce drum work), but Clapton has a more secondary role on vocals. He’s better as a complementary piece, which is why I don’t like his solo stuff all that much.I suspect my never vetting Cream is mainly an Eric Clapton is a tool sorta thing, but I've never let douche bags get in the way of listening to their music.

@zamboni No need to regret missing out on Low Spark. That one IS ineligible for our countdown due to Ric Grech, Jim Gordon and Rebop Kwakubaah.
I love the Derek and the Dominoes album and I think it helps that Bobby Whitlock was about as much of a creative force behind it as Clapton was.Cream is as much about Jack Bruce, if not more, than Clapton, which to me is a good thing. Yes - my guys were not willing to deal with the level of minutia that we're doing here. They were more about the "spirit" of being British. For the most part it worked itself out.@zamboni No need to regret missing out on Low Spark. That one IS ineligible for our countdown due to Ric Grech, Jim Gordon and Rebop Kwakubaah.
seems unlikelyIs that the one they sing around the campfire in the movie Glory?
Yeah, a band that's 3/4 or 4/5 American (depending on whether you consider Duane Allman a full-time member) is taking it too far.Yes - my guys were not willing to deal with the level of minutia that we're doing here. I let a few things slide - but I actually did put my foot down this morning when Scooter tried to list a Derek and the Dominoes song in at #8.

I think I’ve learned from these two drafts that I strongly prefer British rock but overall American music fits my tastes more. The lack of Black artists really hurts the UK. There’s no Aretha, Marvin or Andre 3000.

A View to a Kill is my favorite Bond song, and I agree it is very true to the Bond sound. Shirley Bassey does my second favorite Bond song, but since she is Welsh I won't mention it since it may be on someone's list.Duran Duran wrote a pretty cool song around an extremely dumb title that's true to both the band's and the Bond sound.
There’s a pretty good documentary named The Sound of 007 on Amazon.
It's really a restriction of the ground rules in a way. There are far fewer artists of African descent claimed by the UK than by the US, but there are many significant African-British artists. For this exercise, though, many of those artists were born in the Carribean or West Africa. The lack of Black artists really hurts the UK.
Yeah, I can count on one finger the number Eric Clapton solo songs I like.Cream is as much about Jack Bruce, if not more, than Clapton, which to me is a good thing. All of the above, clearly, as we see in his solo work, which consists of roughly three-and-a-half good songs, one of which is a rip-off of Sunshine of Your Love.
In the U.S. version of this, I wrote a long and rambling post about the Three Degrees' "When Will I See You Again". This is the Isles' version of it. It's a gorgeous performance and it makes me all melty.
I love Zombie, Dreams and Linger equally. Just depends on my mood for the day. I had a a heck of a time picking one. Linger is a wonderful song. Dolores' voice was so unique and beautiful. My special shout-out goes to simey's choice of "Linger" by the Cranberries. "Zombie" seems to be the song of choice around here, but "Linger" has always been my favorite. Also, Ilov80s chose one of my two favorite Kate Bush songs.

For some reason, I thought this band was from Texas
At least you didn't think a Texas band was from England, like Tim did.For some reason, I thought this band was from TexasI must be confusing them with someone else. Or I'm just dumb (which is more likely)

A little context for this pick. It's from the museum scene (filmed at the fantastic Art Institute of Chicago) in Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Such a terrific, powerful scene juxtaposed in an otherwise fun movie that doesn't take itself too seriously. This scene showing the sadness/pain in Cameron's face resonated with me back when in high school - everyone wanted to be Ferris, but I could totally relate to Cameron. Not to mention it's a gorgeous song. I went with the instrumental, but Dream Academy also did a version with vocals. And as much as I like the Smiths, I think DA topped their original.zamboni:

Morrissey minus Morrissey! Nice!
Paul Weller
I did not recognize the title, so I fired it up, and I've heard it inadvertently.....my wife likes Adele. I had no idea she was British.
This was a massive hit all over the world and was overplayed to death everywhere. I don't care. It captivates me with every listen. The yearning in Adele's vocal gives me the feels.

Okay, I didn't include links, 100% my fault as I was in a hurry (as usual) and I wanted to apologize for not including the links. I didn't intend to be so lazy, I'm mostly forgetful. Anyway, I clicked on the link above and I was somewhat shocked and horrified to see that video, I've never seen that before. The video I was thinking of here which was the weird MTV video which I kind of remembered. And, I went back and watched that MTV video and upon further review it's 80's cheesy bad but not quite as boy band cringe worthy as the above but it just further cements my bizarre taste of weird music at times. I absolutely love so much weird 80's music, takes me back to my teenage years when all I could think about was how awesome life would be when I wasn't a teenager any more.![]()
Yes, total visions of MTV with this one, when seemingly half the videos were about impending nuclear disaster. Great pick and song.Sullie:
