Getcha passports ready - the middle-aged dummies are going to the British Isles! Top 31 song countdown. (5 Viewers)

Emotional Rescue - The Rolling Stones
(new song)

Oh, this one is such a killer. Again, probably doesn't even come close to my top 25 Stones. But he really makes that falsetto work on this one. Jagger was perfect for dance beats.
Yeah, unlike some I like when Mick “duets” with his falsetto voice. There’s some really clever lyrics in here as well.
But the “hook” is the greatest Stones bass-line which sadly was not played by Bill, but Ronnie Wood.

My top 10 from the 11 point round, excluding my own selection:
  1. @AAABatteries : Baba O'Riley - The Who
  2. @timschochet : In The Light - Led Zeppelin
  3. Doug : Should I Stay or Should I Go – The Clash
  4. @simey : She Sells Sanctuary - The Cult
  5. @Chaz McNulty : Creep – Radiohead
  6. @Zegras11 : (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction – The Rolling Stones
  7. @krista4 : Tempted – Squeeze
  8. @Mrs. Rannous : Uprising – Muse
  9. @falguy : Big Log - Robert Plant
  10. @higgins : Emotional Rescue - The Rolling Stones
Very tough to narrow this list down to a top 10. I very strongly considered most of the songs in this top 10 list for my own list, and a couple made it.

Nice deep-ish Led Zeppelin cut for a countdown like this where most are limiting themselves to one song per artist. I ranked In the Light as my #25 song in the Led Zeppelin countdown.

I did not know this about the making of Duran Duran's "Save A Prayer" video:

During the filming of the scene where the band members were riding elephants, a female elephant made a strange sound. One of the crew had recorded it, and found it funny enough to play back. It turned out to be the elephant's mating call, which led the elephant carrying Roger Taylor to charge downhill and attempt to mount the female. "It was funny as hell, but quite hairy for a moment," says Rhodes.

Um...so the playlist will be delayed today. Apparently, there is an issue with Spotify. I can't search or even open the links from my Mac right now. :kicksrock:

ETA - won't even load on my phone on cellular :sadbanana:

Yeah, definite weirdness going on at the Spotify end today. I can still play music but anything involving search is taking forever on both mobile and the PC client.

While we're waiting for the playlist, take a listen to a new song by 83 year old  Ian Hunter who was in Mott the Hoople a half century ago. It's called Bed of Roses and is a nostalgic look back at a long gone nightclub. Ringo and Mike Campbell play on the song as well.

The Coral are the first of the bands that I listed in my "top live" list about 2300 posts ago to be revealed, although oddly I didn't see them until way after their heyday, the first two albums were fantastic and it was hard to narrow down to just the one track.

Also had another one of my later picks sniped today, as well as usage of other bands which I've got coming up in the top twenty

Love the Coral. They made the long lists of 2/3 of my family (you can probably guess which ones)

Was 2018 I saw them live. Thought it was earlier than that. The Wonder Stuff were supporting iirc but I have no idea if they're eligible for this, they weren't bad live either

Mrs. Eephus: DARE – Gorillaz
Another mid-tempo dance song for Mrs. E. She has fond memories of the family all dancing in the kitchen to this song. She wanted to mention ditkaburgers still has a band t-shirt from Hot Topic from when she was a kid.

@ditkaburgers: Supermassive Black Hole – Muse
She discovered this band via Twilight and has been a fan ever since. She saw them on her eighteenth birthday and has tickets to see them again this April. She has a band t-shirt from the show in 2010 and unlike the Gorillaz one, it still fits her. I saw her wearing it a few weeks ago when she came back from the gym.

Eephus: Tony Adams - Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros
I posted the other day about what The Clash means to me. I had an awful time choosing one Clash song so I punted to this one which sounds like it could have come from Sandinista (although that's a pretty wide ranging album). Tony Adams used to be a stalwart of my running playlists from the early 2000s. I love the tympani and how energized Strummer sounds with his new band.

Pip’s Invitation:

Kill Your Television - Ned's Atomic Dustbin
(new artist)

In the very early '90s I paid very little attention to contemporary British music until I visited a high school buddy at his college and he played me Ned's God Fodder and another album that will come up two days from now. I loved them both and that trip began my exploration of scenes from the other side of the pond that I hadn't known existed. Kill Your Television takes the best of '80s British New Wave (singer Jonn Penney counts The Cure, Echo & the Bunnymen and The Teardrop Explodes among his biggest influences) and noises it up blissfully.

Coincidentally (ironically?), the same friend's band opened for a reformed Ned's when they played CMJ in NYC about 10 years later.

Speed maths show that 16 of my remaining 20 picks have not yet been selected, but there are only 6 unchoseen artists remaining.*

* +- 3, or close to it.

over half of my remaining 20 have already been picked and I would expect by the end all but maybe 4 will be on someone else's list.

Only two of my top 20 have been selected by someone else so far. I'm sure some more will be. Though I think I might be chalkier in artists than in songs.

I have four of my top 20 taken.

2 out of my top 10

2 out of my 11 - 20

from I can tell - I have 0 taken of my 21 - 31 ranked songs

I'm cool and edgy like that. :ElvisCostello:

It's a Sin

Ya know I like a little humor in music and this gave me a chuckle when I first heard and loved it. I had it right as co-writer, singer Neil Tennant explained synthguy Chris Lowe had this big music based on metal themes but no lyrics. He wrote them in 15 minutes as an unserious little poke at his Catholic high school experience. Not everybody laughed. It became an anthem to the gay community who felt much of the world thought everything they ever did was a sin. The Father from that Catholic high school delivered a sermon on the song concluding the church needed to be less judgmental and more loving. A sermon that resonated all the way to Rome.

They're touring and still getting solid reviews. Backinaday, they followed this with I Will Survive based on the same metal themes. I was fortunate to see this with half of UCLA's cheerleading squad surrounding me and thought the Pet Shop Boys had somehow improved Gloria's glorious disco hit. It may have just been the dancing girls tho. Nah, it was an epic combo. Maybe ya had to be there. Glad I was.

Homemade Mexican lunches update:

Yesterday was pretty basic wet burritos. Bean and cheese with a green sauce soaking into them. Charred corn infused spanish rice on the side. Very smokey and flavorful but the second vegetarian meal in a row. So I asked if they were, ya know, vegetarians. He laughed and said, dios mio no. Then asked me to pick for today, beef, chicken or pork. I just said surprise me and more meatless is fine fine fine. Cochinita Pibil with more of the smokey frijoles and warm freshly made tortillas. Dios mio. Increible.

I took advantage of the Spotify outage to copy some MP3s from computer to phone for Lou's noontime walk. Today is absolutely gorgeous here and it was just as nice to listen to Joni again. I've missed her.

Far south of you in the god forsaken desert the weather is perfect too. 65, bright sun, still air. The wildflowers are going to have a great season starting in about a month.

I was scrolling on the computer and read down to where it said "signed" before the screen cut off, and in my head I said to myself, "Chalky McChalkerson," then scrolled down to see the rest. :hifive: :lmao:
Hey, I resemble that remark.

I think 6 of my top 20 are already picked. Looking at them now, I expect at least 8 of my remaining top 20 are not on anyone else's list.

Four of your top 20 are not on anyone else's list.

Now that I've spoiled that for Just Win Baby  , does anyone want to know the answers to these? I don't think they're spoilers at all since you don't know which are and which aren't, and when they might come up, but I'm happy to look at them and give info if anyone would like it.
