Getcha passports ready - the middle-aged dummies are going to the British Isles! Top 31 song countdown. (1 Viewer)

Geez, the "favorite song" competition right now is a ****ing blowout. If everyone submits who said they would, we're less than halfway through, so I guess it could change.
Were Queen eligible, I would have pegged them for top song honors. Not sure which song could be running away with this.

Bohemian Rhapsody?
Queen's best? Oh, yeah. My Queen favorite? Absolutely not. This is probably one of those ask me a different week and you may get a different answer's, but right not it's Crazy Little Thing Called Love and the others in consideration are not Bohemian Rhapsody.

I always preferred their harder rocking side like Stone Cold Crazy and Keep Yourself Alive.

I’m partial to Killer Queen myself but was just guessing what CIA thought it would be

Stone Cold Crazy is absolutely one of the others in the ask me a different week group.

That would have been my guess. I'm not saying it's their best or my #1, just that I would expect it to out point the rest of the contenders.

Excel's query editor should be able to take an ill-capitalised list, split it by whatever song/artist delimiter someone is using to get a column for each, Make The Artist's Name Look Ridiculously Unnaturally Typed, then stitch it back together without a bunch of manual editing

Why sure, I will just get the doohickey delimited and whatnot.

(I appreciate the help and hope falguy will understand what to do.)

I'm all for Queen talk. My favorite band. And I'd have a really hard time coming up with my favorite song. Some not mentioned that would be in the running

Death on Two Legs
Father to Son
I Want It All
Seven Seas of Rhye
Keep Yourself Alive
Radio GA GA (live)

Yeah now I'm just listing songs.

Time for a Queen deep dive!! Another band that I usually like when it's on, but don't purposely explore. @Yankee23Fan - since it's your favorite band, what 3-4 albums to I need to spin tonight??

News of the World
A Night at the Opera
Queen II
Sounds good. I will start there after I finish up listening to some Tool. 🎧
You would like Queen II the best. It’s their heaviest album, imo.
Well, that's where I started. I was surprised scan the track list, and: 1. not recognize a single song, as well as 2. see a song titled Ogre Battle.

Also my favourite band. We will be duking out in the next draft, I think.

I really like A Kind of Magic. It just works for me.

2010s neo-grunge band Yuck is ineligible because the bass player was born in Japan. I drafted this song in a 2000s song draft many moons ago.

Foals, another 2000s band on my long list is ineligible because the singer was born in Greece.

"You're My Best Friend" is my favorite Queen song.

Same.

I threw a surprise party for my wife's 40th birthday and made a video of pictures from her life and video messages from others who couldn't be there to play at the party. It was long enough that I used parts of three songs as soundtrack for the pictures. During pictures of her childhood, I used Forever Young (Alphaville), one of her favorite songs from her high school years. Once the pictures started from our time together, I used You're My Best Friend followed by True Companion (Marc Cohn), our wedding song.

I just watched it again for the first time in years. Great memory.

That sounds like a great memory. I've read your posts over the years regarding your wife's chronic pain from an accident, and I have a very high respect for the love and support you have shown for her. Your advocacy and never-ending quest to seek the best quality of life you can for her is inspiring. She certainly found her true love and best friend.

Ok, I was just getting ready to come in here and pretend I didn't know how the game in Charlotte went yesterday.

That's a wonderful story, JWB.

Ok, I was just getting ready to come in here and pretend I didn't know how the game in Charlotte went yesterday.

I had to work and recorded the game. I learned the outcome and have not watched, at least not yet. Being a State fan conditions one for recurring sports fandom disappointments and letdowns... at least for the past 30 years. So I wasn't particularly affected by the loss, particularly since our 4th string QB entering the season started the game.

It was a brutal watch. Little Tua played for Maryland, but I think the top 8 receivers for the Terps (their only strength) didn't. Unless you're really bored, I'd suggest deleting the game from your DVR.

Another one bites the dust?

I'm so bad at picking favorites. I don't have a favorite Queen song. I guess if we're rockin', Sheer Heart Attack deserves mentioning. It's so punky.

Speaking of picking favorites, I got bored of my list after over-listening in an attempt to rank them. So I just deleted the whole thing. A new year and a fresh start.

Happy New Year everybody!

One you can add to post #3 is Scritti Politti -- their classic lineup was a trio featuring two Americans and British singer Green Gartside.

Soooooo........ My memory is failing me in my old age, but I seem to remember a small wager I had with some NCSU fan(s) on the outcome of the Duke Mayo Bowl - you all know by now that it was the scintillating matchup between NC State and Maryland. Something about me reviewing Billy Joel records. But I can't quite recall the terms of the bet. Let me ask a couple of folks (chosen entirely at random, of course) if they can remember the details.........

@Just Win Baby @simey I know you both have good memories.

That bet is in the American favorite 31 thread. It's the worst bet EVAH! If State won, you would critique 12 Billy Joel songs with honesty, if State lost, you would critique 12 Billy Joel songs with snark. To me, that is a lose/lose situation, cause we have to read what you have to say about Billy Joel, and that's never good! I agreed to it, though, and so I'll do it, and JWB did say he wanted in. I'll submit 6 songs in the American thead, and JWB can submit 6 more if he still wants to endure the torture of what you have to say.

Ok, here's the offer: If State wins, I'll listen to 12 Billy Joel songs of your choosing and will do so in real time here and give an honest-faith review of each. If Maryland wins, I still get to listen to your 12 Billy Joel songs but get to snark the hell out of every one of them.

Here is a list of 6 songs I like:
  1. New York State of Mind, from Turnstiles
  2. Just the Way You Are, from the Stranger
  3. She's Got a Way, from Songs in the Attic
  4. Pressure, from the Nylon Curtain
  5. Goodnight Saigon, from the Nylon Curtain
  6. Baby Grand, with Ray Charles, from the Bridge
Looking forward to your reviews!

What's everyone's traditional New Year's menu?

Mine is black-eyed peas, cornbread, and greens (it doesn't matter what kind, but it'll be spinach this year). BE peas are done and I'll make the cornbread/greens later.
