Mister CIA: Starship Trooper – Yes (This is so good. I need to get back to listening to them more.)

I hate this so much I actually like it:
Mrs. Rannous: Kiss Me Deadly - Lita Ford

Regardless of points/rankings, I kind of view picks through a pass/fail minimally quintessentially British filter; the vast majority are passimg, but I'm giving a few picks the side-eye.

tbh

Speaking of Duran Duran, I mentioned previously that my favorite of theirs wasn't chosen, so I guess I can disclose what it is. No love for The Chauffeur? Is it because it was too hard to spell? Maybe it just sounds too dated? It's my favorite and not particularly close.

This is some top level spotlighting here.

you get 24 hours if you sleep with someone's spouse now.

Glad to see Alice get a little love. Bummed as it looks like K4 won't get to see it live. Just shreds live.

Been married twice; pretty familiar with spouse sleeping.

Not sure what we're talking about.

In the thread about some guy's wife had her car hit by a co-worker, I used the old FBG line for about 100th time, and got 24 hours off.

ETA: I posted it Thur evening. It got deleted. Someone posted the exact same thing Fri am. Mine is gone. The other is till there and it's been quoted. :lmao:

Are you kidding? How about the joke about doing it in the dude's car? And what peckerwood reported that, anyway?

Condolences, seriously.

Man, I'm slowing with age.

Right over my head. For reals.

Sorry, I actually don't understand what you're saying.
I read the second question in Val’s contest as “What band would finish highest PERIOD, Big Three or otherwise.” U2 would be a valid answer:

2. The artist that you believe will receive the most points overall, including the Big Three.

So now I’m curious what post of yours I didn’t read, and what information I missed in said post. I miss stuff all the time, so I wouldn’t be surprised. I just couldn’t figure out what you were getting at when you pointed out my answer of U2.

My first thought was that I might have the question backwards—that I was supposed to name one of the Big Three. But I don’t know.

Or did krista reveal at some point that, yeah, one of the Big Three bands did finish #1. And that was revealed before I submitted my entry to Val Saturday morning?

Slide Away was a late add, and not the original song I was targeting for an Oasis pick. There was a tie-in to another pick coming up to another selction that is a joint KP/Mrs KP pick. I listened to both of their first two albums, and this was the song that I kept playing over and over. It's from the debut, but I thought it sounded like a nice bridge between that one, and a bit of a preview of the sound that was going to come on Morning Glory. It also jogged a memory of liking it a lot in college and adding it to some mix tapes back in the day.

She revealed that “The Big Three” were running away with it, hence the term “The Big Three.” Link to one post stating as much.

One of the things I checked out after Jeff Beck died was the live album he did with Beck Bogert Appice. In a couple of spots there, Beck uses the talkbox, about 2 years before Frampton did.

He also used it on his cover of "She's a Woman" on Blow By Blow
Yeah, the talkbox had been around for at least a handful of years, but Frampton pretty much brought it into the mainstream with the massive success of the live album. Then for a handful of years in the mid/late 70s, seems like every band was using it. One or two songs, in particular, we may see later on.

I made the Jethro Tull joke already? Okay, new business then. Another round where I knew over half of the songs. I expect that will happen a lot at higher (binky: lower?) ranks, but I know there will also be surprises.

#27s
Recognized by title alone: 26
Sounded familiar: 2
Knew from this countdown: 1
Didn't know: 15

Selected Favorites:
Baker Street) (MAC_32)
Tempted (worrierking) - Didn’t make my final 45 (or so), though right now I’m wondering if I sold this song short.
Uncontrolled Desires (Just Win Baby)
The Killing Moon (Dr. Octopus)
Cruel Summer (ditkaburgers) - Instant flashback to The Karate Kid. Hmm? What do you mean, ‘which one?’?

Songs I didn't know that I ended up liking:
Burn Baby Burn (titusbramble)
Get Myself Arrested (DrIanMalcom)
Another Sunny Day (Hov34)
St. James Infirmary (Val Rannous) - I don’t know what I was expecting, but it wasn’t this.

Got it. Yeah, I didn’t recall that post when I voted. C’est la vie.

Similar somewhat to vocoders that keyboardists might use for vocal effects, Kraftwerk and Alan Parsons to name 2. Also great if you want to sing but really can't.

DURAN DURAN WAS JUST THE ANSWER (OR QUESTION) ON JEOPARDY AS I READ THIS PAGE. :tinfoilhat:
Did you see the Beatles category they had yesterday?

No! I was out last night and missed the show.
The category was Self-Referential Beatles.

$400: John's "How Do You Sleep?" told us "The only thing you done was" this song where Paul's troubles seemed so far away

What is Yesterday?

$800: "See how they fly like Lucy in the sky, see how they run" in this song, goo goo g'joob

What is I Am the Walrus?

$1200: "There's nothing you can know that isn't known", like adding "She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah" to the end of this song

What is All You Need Is Love?

$1600: "Glass Onion" begins, "I told you about" this title spot, "you know the place where nothing is real"

What is Strawberry Fields?

$2000: "I'm The Greatest" had Ringo sing, "Yes, my name is" him, "the one and only" singer in Sgt. Pepper's band

Who is Billy Shears?

I found all of those easy, but I would think for a regular person that the $400 one was harder than some of those below it.
I thought the same thing.

I’m not sure how many times to say the same thing but krista many times updated us that the Big Three were way way ahead - these updates came up until the very end.

Maybe because it's Duran Duran  :lmao: Full disclosure...I can't stand this band.
