Continuing my Stones marathon from last night, I have listened to these four consecutive albums:

Beggar’s Banquet
Let It Bleed
Sticky Fingers
Exile on Main Street

This is some run. I know there are a few other classic rock bands with album runs that can match it (particularly the other two members of what Krista calls “the big three”) but personally I think this is the best.

There was also a top-tier live album and the Through the Past, Darkly compilation released during this run.

Reading through a lot of Pip's posts it does more now occur to me that Pip: music :: Me: Movies.

Interesting that you start your LZ run with III, I would have begun it with their first album. The Led Zeppelin run is the longest (not necessarily the best).

I was extending the earlier parameters of 4 in a row, so going with the peak, given Presence is a step down from the others. But sure. Then again - and again, Jersey - Bruce's run goes from The WIld, The Innocent/Born to Run/Darkness/The River/Nebraska/Born in the USA/Tunnel of Love, so that's 7 in a row.

I like selected songs from Nebraska and Tunnel of Love, but IMO they’re not overall of the same quality of the other albums you named.

Tunnel of Love, to me, reaches a higher level of clarity the longer you're married. But I can accept the idea that it's a step down from the others, though I still think it's brilliant. It's nowhere near the decline in Human Touch/Lucky Town, which would have made one very solid-but-not-great album instead of one lousy one and one decent one.

Nebraska belongs with all of the others, IMHO.

So with regard to my pick of “I’ve Got a Feeling”- this has been my personal favorite Beatles song for years and years. But last year when I went to see Paul McCartney at SoFi stadium he performed it with a video of John Lennon singing from the Peter Jackson film. Which was both kind of creepy and really cool at the same time. 80 year old Paul also struggled to sing his part with any real power so that was a little sad as well.

There are a squillion different directions you could go with The Kinks because of the high quality of their output and the vast differences in sound of their various eras. This song, the opener to and first single from 1971's Muswell Hillbillies, is one of Ray Davies' best social commentaries ("the 20th century took it all away from me", "this is the edge of insanity") and one of their most unique tunes musically, featuring a driving acoustic guitar-based arrangement that explodes into a frenzy of organ solos by John Gosling. By the time I was listening to FM radio, it was getting some airplay but not a ton, so that has kept it fresh for me.

I am very much in the minority among my friends, but I was not enthusiastic about the direction In Rainbows took Radiohead. For the most part I didn't think the songs were there -- many of the tracks seemed more like vehicles for experimentation as opposed to songs. That being said, there are two tunes on it that I absolutely adore, and this is one of them.

I ranked this #14 in the Beatles countdown and it's one I get very emotional about, including when I saw the clip of Paul virtually duetting on it with John. When I got the Beatles' entire catalog on CD for Christmas or birthday when I was in college, there were several songs I was drawn to because they were absolute genius and didn't seem to be recognized as such compared to their more popular tracks. This was one. Others included And Your Bird Can Sing and I'm Only Sleeping. (All three of those made my top 25.)

Didn't comment on this the first time it was picked. It's one of my favorite Tull songs -- mainly for Martin Barre's guitar playing, but it's got a great structure and some of the best use of flute that the band did. The US version of Benefit is a monstrous record and arguably their best.

There are actually two versions of this song. The US album version is the better one and the one that got radio play. A less-heavy but still good version was released as the B-side of the standalone single Witches' Promise. It didn't see album release until the 20 Years of Jethro Tull box set.

Zep gets close with III/IV/Houses/Physical Graffiti. The Beatles probably exceed it, honestly, with Help/Rubber Soul/Revolver/Sgt Pepper/White Album.

Bruce? Might be my Jersey bias here, but I think I'd take Born to Run/Darkness/The River/Nebraska/Born in the USA over most comers.

And I know fewer people are interested in this subject matter, but I think I did a much better job on my post-Beatles Beatles countdown than I did my original Beatles countdown. I worked much harder on the second countdown, giving a lot more history, and organized it much better.

It's the first song off of their only proper album and it's a clue for what's in store on the rest of it. If ever the dichotomy of the commercialism of West Berlin mixed with the dire political straits of East Berlin were broached, this was the song to do it. The song is mocking the Wall and the sociopolitical means by which it got there, but I'm still not sure after thirty-five years of hearing this song exactly what Johnny Rotten is trying to say (and I'm not sure he is either). We can be sure of one thing: It sure sounds he doesn't give a **** about whodunit or why with the Wall, he just wants it traversed and crossed because of its absurdity, something large masses of downtrodden people with pick axes would agree with just twelve years later.

From a sonically-interesting standpoint, this might be the best track these dudes ever laid down. Back before my ears got wrecked, I loved to listen to this one with headphones on. This is their apogee, even though they kept it up for another 4 or 5 years.

I'm not really a huge fan; I couldn't name another Franz Ferdinand tune, but they really found something on this song. It sounds so huge. Such a fun tune. Take Me Out was the one I was surprised was so high after doing that ranking site thing. One of the few songs that I can still remember where I was and what I was doing the first time I heard it. It took me a couple weeks to finally figure out what it was. All I was able to really pull from my first listen (played at a loud outdoor bar on the river) was that guitar riff. I think within 30 seconds of the song it registered as an instant classic to me. So much so I had thought certainly I had heard this song before or that this must be an older established song. Something was so perfect about it, it seemed like it had to have always existed.

Oh dang. Never thought of that. It would be a shame if it was. I almost picked the song I mentioned above or "Jacqueline." It just seemed to me that "Take Me Out" had struck me in a similar way to Ilov80s in that when I first heard it, I just went "Wow" and immediately purchased the album (yes, I still did that back in 2004 or so).

I always loved these lyrics. Those who do the drafts will hopefully indulge me again
