GM's Thread About Everything/GM's Thread About Nothing (5 Viewers)

My middle one (11, 6th grade, 6-8 middle school) doesn’t want to do school soccer even though it’s his favorite sport. Plays for city rec league and practice and seasons overlap but he could likely do both

Little disappointed and I don’t want to push him, but feel like something deeper is keeping him from it. He dropped school swim after 1st meet, but we did kind of force him to join since older bro on team. I think he genuinely didn’t like it, but I also get the impression that he’s worried about failing on a bigger stager. He’s always been kind of shy, but also the type to take over a room if he’s comfortable. He’s probably the best kid on his rec league and embraces it , but with other sports baseball, swim, etc he’s more middle of the pack and I feel like it makes him shy away

Anyway TL:Dr my kid doesn’t want to play for school soccer team even though he’s good at it and it’s his favorite sport. Don’t want to push him but feel like he’s missing a good opportunity to play and bond with future HS teammates. I guess as long as he stays involved in something I should just let him choose
I played on a traveling team and most of us were expected to play for our high school. The school hired a coach we all knew and didn't like, so we kept playing for the club and only a handful of the players played for the high school.

I'll be honest... I wish I didn't play HS soccer- kids were stoners and not that interested and had kind of a grudge against the kid who wasn't stoned and was interested. and I hated losing.

but it's worth more investigation about why he's chosing to only do the rec league. no wrong answers, tbh... just a hope that he's approaching it from a position of desire rather than fear.

Hostile takeover at my work today. Straight out of the movies. Security escorting the felonious GM out, after they gave him his severance paperwork.

neat

once again I’m not there. New ownership group already reached out to me and I’m valued…bla bla bla. :oldunsure:
Such a weird day at work. There were at least 12 henchmen spread about at all the various entry points to the building, verifying who everyone was. I walked in and went right to the whiskey room where all my stuff is stored. To see if my key would work. It did! 3 henchmen descended upon me and demanded to know who I was. 😂😂. I told them and walked away. i Went into the kitchen to check on the chefs and was hugging one of them when I felt a tug on my shirt. The henchmen had ran and gotten their boss! He asked who I was. And how I had a key and why did the key work?(every lock was supposed to have been rekeyed) I let him him know who I was and that I no idea why my key worked, but maybe they missed something? 😜

went and introduced myself to the new bosses. They called in the head henchman and demanded to know why that door hadn’t been rekeyed 😂 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ chatted with new peeps for a bit. Got an apology from the head henchman and got a fresh set of keys. So weird.

Restaurant/hotel business. Over the last year and half, I’ve been involved with a new project, refurbishing and getting a historic hotel back up and running. It’s on the sand in Laguna beach.

I swear, I’m never quite sure if you work in a restaurant/hotel or for the mafia from the way you describe things. Or maybe it’s just both?

lol, my FIL had this sort of nebulous "maybe" surrounding him

he passed away 12 years ago and i'm still not totally sure.

yes?

no?

I don't think I knew GM was a chef

He's not. He tried to roast a chicken in a Dutch oven on Monday but cooked it so long the 'meat' of the bird came out like patching-putty. Then when I swallowed a big bite of it, it stuck in my throat so bad I was worried I would have to Heimlich myself. Then he left all that liquid in the Dutch oven, threw the bird carcass and bones back in, covered with water, baked for 5 hours and made the most bitter, worst tasting chicken stock known to the animal kingdom.

So, no. Not a chef. Also messed up orange chicken - AGAIN! Three times I've tried to make this stupid dish, following instructions, watching videos and *BARF*.

I suck at everything.

No wonder you were escorted out of the building

@kevzilla, sorry we couldn't cross paths in Vegas Friday night. I got to the airport around 3 am Saturday morning. It's like you were just there.
Yeah, about six hours earlier. You got out before the gale stated. I saw a drunk very nearly get blown into traffic on City Center :scream:

That drunk was not me, btw

Did the wind mess up your magical hair?
Made it even more magical, you mean? The one pic I posted to Twitter didn't really do it justice.

Brought up YouTube on the Firestick yesterday. Before I went to go search, YouTube had given me some recommendations on videos I may want to watch. These videos included mostly what I search for like "Ford 302 head rebuild", "Small Engine repair", "OMC Cobra outdrive removal", etc. Only one of the video recommendations didnt fit. I only noticed the video because of the picture. I saw a big face, looking like they were stuffing something into their mouth. I said "Wait, is that GM?" What would he be doing in my YouTube search recommendations? This makes no sense.

It was GM. I have no idea why he was in my searches. I can't even find the movie now. Im completely shuked

I assume you lot are in touch with Tanner. saw a Jose name and thought of him... just checking to make sure all good in his world.

Just watched my psycho neighbor chase someone halfway down the block because their dog pooped on his lawn

Good for him in this case but he’s got issues.

Gave the neighbor kids $20 to build a snowman last winter and then came and asked for a refund because the head fell off a few hours later

Roverkid having a tough time going into the last 4 weeks of school. She's had some kind of falling out with her roommates in the dorm, and they aren't speaking to each other and are making her very uncomfortable. They were the center of her social group, and now she's been frozen out and feels alone. This coming weekend is also the second anniversary of one of her best friends dying of an overdose. She's heading into her final projects and is overwhelmed in school. She's called me crying every day and her mom flew out to spend Easter with her.

Trying to encourage her the best I can and I got her a short term furnished apartment to live in for the next month to finish out the semester because she feels like she can't handle the dorm drama and the school pressure. Her mental health is the worst I've seen it in years. Hoping she can power through the next month and come home and regroup.

sorry to hear it sincerely kids now are under such pressure that as an old guy i could never imagine having to deal with and with social media it just surrounds and envelops them good for 1 the apartment to help her through 2 for being there for daughter and 3 for being the type of dad that your daughter feels comfortable talking to about this stuff probably a good sign that you did some of this parenting some stuff right along the way take that to the bank brohan

“I have free candy and puppies in my van.”

I think the toughest part will be that, if they were the center of her social group, she has no social group to go back to next year. That’s going to probably be tough, especially since that also affects housing obviously.

It’s crazy, I knew a few guys that had roommate issues mostly because their roommates were weirdos or filthy, but virtually every girl I knew in college had roommate drama at some point or another. Like girls would be great friends, then room together and end up fighting.

Next year she'll have all new classes and can join some clubs or something. The new classes will let her meet some people. The clubs associated with the film school include some time commitments, so she didn't join any this year because she wanted to focus on school. She's also committed to living off campus next year and she's got a prospective roommate that goes to the fashion institute, so that would help her meet a broader group of people. Hoping that works out.

Just have to figure out a way to help her muddle through the next month.

May need to hit you up on that. I'm committed to a trip to Vegas this coming weekend, but I'm going to come out the next week to spend some time with her and help her work on a script for one of her classes.

Sorry to hear about all the BS roverkid's having to go through. Getting her the apartment was the right move. Hopefully having her Mom there last weekend and you shortly will help get her through the semester.

I was looking at immigrating to Canada but the process looks way too difficult.
(Halifax, for anyone wondering)

Maine is good enough.
Good thing you aren’t emigrating anyway, adding all those ‘u’s to everything would be exhausting.

Seriously though, congratulations!

Restaurant/hotel business. Over the last year and half, I’ve been involved with a new project, refurbishing and getting a historic hotel back up and running. It’s on the sand in Laguna beach.

I keep meaning to check with you on something and forgetting: I assume you've been to Heritage BBQ? A major thing about this 'burgh in the negative column is the utter lack of legit Carolina/KC BBQ of any sort. I've had a few tell me that Heritage is the one place that's got it....but it feels/sounds like a rip off when you take a gander at those prices.

Have you partaken? Worth it?

Maine is good enough.

Winner: The most apathetic state motto ever.

My wife's uncle lives in Maine. They drive snowmobiles 11 months out of the year to get to their property. "Good enough" seems exceptionally relative to me.
