You’ll be fine. Just make noise periodically, yelling or singing. If you do longer hikes I’d invest in best spray.

Not to fully dismiss the possibility, but given the number of visitors to the park, if bear attacks were remotely common surely we’d have heard about it. Kinda like worrying about sharks while swimming.

Bear attacks are rare. In fact, according to the National Park Service, the chance of being attacked by a bear is just 1 in 2.7 million visits.

If you further analyze those odds, the numbers move even further in your favor. If you camp at a roadside campground, the odds increase to 1 in 26.6 million. While the chance of a bear attack while hiking in the backcountry is a staggeringly rare 1 in 232,613 individual travel days.

On March 3 1969 the United States Navy established an elite school for the top one percent of its pilots. Its purpose was to teach the lost art of aerial combat.

How was aerial combat a lost art by 1969? Isn't that just an art?

That was a big mistake, as our drive now extended after dark. Saw no fewer than a dozen deer along the road, just waiting to bound into the highway. And it was foggy/raining much of the way.

Deer? I had a moose the size of a school bus come out into the road in front of us.

Yeah, at Jackson Hole I had a moose step in front of me while skiing… dodged it, thankfully. Also had a bison running alongside our vehicle on the road to the airport. Seen plenty of ginormous elk roadside too. But none of those are as dumb as deer.

Really don’t like driving anywhere with big animals at night.

Still bummed about missing coshole. Lucky enough to have drank with cos on both coasts. Honored to have met lady cos. Favorite moment? I’ve seen moose multiple times in Park City, on the Canyons’ side. I try to give them a wide berth, as they can be territorial.

Watched a snowboarder get quite close to one, which was really tempting fate, as the terrain was pretty flat. Also saw a porcupine shake its quills at a snowboarder. Animals must understand they’re a scourge for us decent ski folk.

I love the idea and also prefer holding the draft in this thread, but I would require logistical support.
I am unable to create a workable spreadsheet and I don't have time to enter everyone's picks into a hosting website. But if someone can create one of those shared Google spreadsheets and another one or two of you could help me enter the picks at the boat site, this would be very doable.
That way we could hold the draft in here and entertain dozens of us for a week
Let me do some research to find a cheap and accommodating host site.
Oh yeah, someone will need to collect and distribute entry fees.

Have 2 nights at Many Glacier hotel, definitely looking forward to that.

Made our connecting flight and at least getting into Kalispell tonight. In the end, didn’t lose a ton off our itinerary, just made our day a whole lot longer and more stressful. Oh, and cost us an extra $400 for a hotel for tonight.

But hey, I’m on vacation and looking forward to what Glacier has to offer.

Highly recommend a photo by this hydrant in Many Glacier.
