Camden

PNC

Comerica

Are the three best new parks I've been to in that order. Camden is the original and it is pure genius, I've sat everywhere there and never found a bad seat.

The ballpark at Arlington is nice but it sits right next to that monstrosity of a Jerryworld, the ugliest looking thing from the outside in America (inside is sweet though). Jacobs Field and the Great American ballpark are both cool, I like the setting for GABP right on the river and the statues out front. Jacobs Field I didn't like that you can't walk around and watch the game from the concourse, flawed design. Citifield and Nats park are almost the same, corporate, bad choices when designing (like the parking garage the Nats have in LF which blocks a view of the capitol), and no real flare. Both parks are nice enough, but a notch below what they could have been. The new Busch doesn't seem as good as any of those.

Of the historic parks Tiger Stadium, Wrigley, and Chavez Ravine are all similar in their uniqueness. Tiger Stadium was so cozy for a 55k capacity stadium, but the obstructed seats were ridiculous. Best thing about the park was the bleachers though which had its own entrance and was caged off by a 15 foot fence on either side from the "paying customers." It was in a neighborhood like Wrigley too, making it neat.

The old Yankee Stadium was a dump but it was Yankee Stadium and it just smelled like what baseball should smell like. Plus Sammy and TU left me in the Bronx after the game and I got so hammered it took me like 2 hours to get back to Brooklyn, adding to the great time. The new Yankee Stadium is cool because of the design of the concourses and the art and history they put on the walls. But the stupid OF restaurant, the ridiculous prices to get a good seat, and the pop fly homers to RF make it meh.

Finally I heard the new Comiskey has made some design changes. I went in the 90s and found it to be more like the old Riverfront than like Camden which was built before. The old Comiskey had a beautiful brick shell which was stunning, and then they painted it cream for some ####### reason because White Sux gonna White Sux. The inside was crappy but I liked the way the old girl seemed cozy even with a larger capacity than most of the new parks.

I used to always want to go to the old Tigers stadium... loved the look of it, even if I'm sure those columns were a little... in the way.
Funny you should say that - my dad and I made a dedicated trip there to see if before they tore it down, late in its final season. It poured and poured for an hour and we thought we were going to have to just say "well, we were within the gates, we saw it, even if no one actually played baseball," but it suddenly cleared up and they got the game in. Anyhoo, our seats were right behind one of those columns. Cracked us up. I'm still sad they tore that one down instead of trying to renovate it, but Comerica is very, very nice.

btw... no mention of what an absolute crap-fest Candlestick used to be?
I liked it for football.
Yeah, I saw the 49ers play the Vikings there in 2007 in December. It was a glorious day, warm and sunny. We sat high up with our feet on the rails and enjoyed the atmosphere quite a bit. Though a fan did die falling that die and they wheeled him out of the stadium through the field, which was odd.

Here are two seats from Tiger Stadium, mounted to my cabin deck.

I'm remembering why you're one of my favorite posters evah.

Your analysis of just about everything above is spot-on. One quibble: I think Cowboys Stadium looks like an alien spaceship landed and I find that impossibly cool so I'm good with it.

I did not think they should have replaced Yankee Stadium. Have them play in Giants Stadium for a year and renovate the old park top to bottom. I'm still shocked they did that. Nonetheless, as a Red Sox fan and Yankee hater . . . I went to both new NYC parks in 2009 and . . . am I really typing this . . . almost loved New Yankee Stadium and thought New Shea was only a little above average.

You're right about Nats Park. I could not believe they did not orient it so all seats could see the Capitol; in fact, if they'd oriented it 90 degrees to the west most seats could have seen the Monument too. Dumb. Also, we went there early in its life, before they got any amenities surrounding it, like the planned concourse and shopping to the (I think) north, out the outfield gates, up and running, if they ever did.

New Comiskey is a little bit of a sad case. They built it right before Camden and apparently had no idea what was coming, so it missed out on a lot of the new innovations. My only visit there was the year after it opened, and I went to something like the tenth game ever at Camden, so I was able to connect those dots right away. However, I hear they really spruced up New Comiskey in the (Jesus) 25 years or so since I've been there and along with Coors, it's just about highest on my list to go back to to find out.

Comiskey is ok. Not much to like or dislike about it. Seats in the upper deck are pretty steep. Feels like you are right on top of the field.

Surrounding area is awful though so the location sucks.

Yeah, although they are working on it, but, well, I'm a North Side guy, so I won't argue.

Steepness - I didn't notice that about Comiskey, interesting. If you've ever been to Kauffman Stadium, the steepness of the upper deck actually makes you worry about falling straight on to the field. Still a crushingly awesome park.

Yeah I have two more that haven't been rehabbed yet. I think I might actually sell them.

My MIL left this morning for Detroit. She was with us since July 2. Was pretty nice having her around as she helped us a ton. Worried about life now without her help, but that's why we have beer I guess.

Christina has quite a few attractive cousins. The one who flies in tomorrow for a week is NOT one of them. On top of looking like Don Mossi, she's got this horrendous Midwest accent that makes Sarah Palin's voice sound like song of the Sirens. She visited a year or so ago and I had a fully stocked fridge full of beers. I asked her if she wanted one and she goes "I don't like your guises beers" like she was an extra in Fargo. I don't think I talked to her the rest of the week and I don't plan on doing much talking this week.

it was the absolute worst.

saw a ton of niners and giants in my youth. football games were more fun than baseball, but still. way out in the middle of yuck and seats always felt far, no matter how close (caveat- we were never that close... except for one niners game where we were too close- a couple of rows back at the 50 yard line... couldn't really see over the players- although IIRC, ken stabler warmed up right in front of us for his non-raiders team... oilers?

nothing worse than a summer night game, with the fog swirling, teeth chattering... and the giants sucking. just miserable.

good luck w/out MIL, gm... I remember those being the hardest days, right after whoever came to help leaves.

maybe stock some Stroh's for the cousin this time.

That's a good idea. Think I'll canvass the area for all the bad Canadian and Detroit beers I can find.

It's kind of weird because Michigan actually has a very good craft beer scene now. You'd think she's have some taste for good brews. Lord knows she's drinking SOMETHING.

Speaking of lame beer (the beverage not the basketball player)...#2 kid starts training for his new job on Monday. Let's hope he can keep it. Warehouse work from like 3PM until 1 or 2AM. This is the kid that acts like taking out the trash is fieldhand work. Should be making some decent scrilla for sure.

 GL to him. I could work those hours; those are ideal for me. Except for the warehouse part and not being able to delay briefs, pleadings, letters, threats, etc. by posting here.

Remind me again of the 'perks' that will come with this gig? Gotta be some free beers flowing your way, right? Man, you got some life....wife working for the King of Wings, kid working for a beer company, summers off, exotic lounges. Man.

LOL...yeah. They do get free beer but I think it's something like a suitcase of Kerr's Light a month.

every time your credit is pulled lowers the score under the misguided theory that you needing credit and taking on debt is a negative. if they ran your score once, a refresh couldve been obtained that wouldnt ding points. but an inquiry is so inconsequencial it should effect anything. fyi - dont ever shop for a car

My employer really knows how to buy software. The 'emergency tech support' number turns out to be an answering service. I'm just sitting here with my thumb up my ###, waiting for a callback, with a cascade of error messages and no way to perform my job duties. :lmao:

Best movie that is constantly on cable: Whiplash. I must have watched this 5 times in the last two months.

And Chavez Ravine is a gem. Only bummed that Scully isn't announcing this postseason. Would have been a great last hurrah for a legend. If you don't like Vin Scully, you don't like baseball.
I watched that on a plane last week and was really surprised by how good it was. Sticks with you.

I  Vin Scully.
